Cork red?
Cork red?
All my B@stard supporting mates crying over this today. Apparently 'VAR gives it as a red'.
I thought because he split his legs and the left was not 'in the tackle' so to speak, it wasn't a red, but they disagree.
What's your view?

They're taking their time with this one, the match finished 13 hours ago.

Just checked the BBC report which confirmed it was a yellow.

One of those that could go either way. He took the ball so I don’t think it was a foul, but with the ‘endangering an opponent by being out of control) had their player been quicker it could have been nasty.

Technically I didn’t think it was a red, but in the Prem and it’s us… Red all day long with VAR
Re: Cork red?
They’re going to get a shock when VAR arrives in the Championship next season, they’ll look back on the pre-VAR days with dewy eyed nostalgia.

Re: Cork red?
I don't think the challenge itself is a red, but he did a challenge a minute or two before which he should have been booked for, and so maybe we got lucky he didn't get two yellows.
But then one of there players should have got a yellow for deliberate handball and we should have had a pen when Benson was pulled back.
All evens out in the end.

Re: Cork red?
A high tariff yellow but never a red. However there was one incident in the second half where an already booked Rovers player should have received a second yellow but the ref realized he was already booked and bottled it

Not convinced the challenge warranted a red on its own but Id bet my life that the other way round quite a lot of people on here would be screaming for it to be a red and also pointing to the earlier challenge that should have been a booking.

Texas School Depository Building or Grassy Knoll. Nearly 60 years ago and still don't know. Outcome remained the same though. We've learned to live with it and so should they. 0-1 and champions on their grassy knoll.

I didn’t see the ref showing a red card to Cork or giving Rovers a last minute penalty. Did I miss something ?

Re: Cork red?
Honestly, if it were the other way around, I'd be of the opinion that the player won the ball, though it was a strong challenge.
Games gone soft.

Re: Cork red?
Maybe the fact that he got the ball cleanly and didn't touch the player made it look a bit less dangerous? I'm ot saying it wasn't a foul and a booking for dangerous play, but to say it was reckless, out of control, and endangered an opponent would be very harsh considering he never touched the man.
The Blackburn player who kicked Cork's face on his follow through when Cork was lying on the floor - now that could have been called endangering an opponent.

Re: Cork red?
I think some of our own fans have short memories the way they have moaned about every little decision that has gone against us this season.
Its been brilliant not having VAR even if there have been some clear and obvious mistakes that could have been overruled but behind having to get used to not winning again VAR is the worst thing about getting back in the Premier League for me.

Re: Cork red?
I think most referees would have given a red. It could also have been two yellows for two consecutive bad tackles. A bit like the Barnes handball should have been a penalty.
But who cares. Maybe a bit of Kama after the obvious offside of Dunn and the blatant dive by Hoilett.

Re: Cork red?
He probably doesn't make the second tackle like that if he's already on a yellow, though, you have to be more careful and an experienced pro like Jack would know that.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 10:47 amI think most referees would have given a red. This is very true and what most sensible people would argue although this argument is never well received on here when an opposition player makes a second yellow card challenge after not getting booked for the first one

I think if he hadn't got booked, Smozidcs would have been banned retrospectively for kicking Cork in the face when he was down as well
Put it one way, I don't think the ref was the reason Rovers lost, and I guess if you were a Rovers fan, you would, but Rovers fans probably need to worry more about how they have nothing up front

Not even a foul. The one he got booked for that is, not seen any others.
Re: Cork red?
I prefer a screw top on my Claret.
Re: Cork red?
Same here and then I suppose their argument goes that he should already have had a yellow for an earlier challenge.
I thought the handball, when Zaroury flicked it passed him down the line, was by Carter who hadn't already been booked (it was Pickering and Beaver Face).
I also think VAR gives the penalty against Barnes but not the one on Benson.
And all if this just makes it even funnier and sweeter, if that's even possible.

Re: Cork red?
Yep i think he should have walked as soon as i saw it .
Re: Cork red?
I think Shmodickz or whatever he's called kicking Cork in the chest warranted a straight red. Cork's challenge was two footed and dangerous, but for me he won the ball and didn't catch the man with his studs - so a yellow card.
As for the two penalty claims, I think they were both penalties.
Seems to have evened out over the game?

Even going in two footed?
That's certainly against the laws of the game.

More puzzling why a seasoned pro like Jack would come on and go into a Vinnie Jones routine for the first few minutes, clearly risking a red and blowing the whole game.

Re: Cork red?
When you see it from one angle his left leg is a long way from the opponent. Safely away so just a hefty, studs up challenge. He won the ball but the studs up warrants a booking.
Dolan should have been booked in the couple of minutes before HT for a bad tackle on Charlie , who was carrying the ball out. Normally a standard yellow. Theguy should have been booked for the deliberate handball as Zaroury skinned him.

Cork is so incredibly slow that he’s constantly lunging to make up the yards , that’s when he’s not grabbing /pulling back when out paced . Great servant and I’d love him as a Grezza style sweeper but alas his legs are gone .

Not even a free kick.
You can "scissor" a player to be reckless but Cork did similar to avoid hurting the player and to win the ball cleanly.

We had years in the receiving end of this sort of **** poor officiating…. Now it’s their turn.
Personally I’m delighted at how things went. Better than a footballing lesson in a way. They should’ve had a pen…. Gutted. Should’ve been a red….. gutted. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Suck it up bastards.

Re: Cork red?
It was a stupid challenge and a red card for flying in uncontrolled with both legs. And doubly stupid as he'd just been told off for another one, not quite as bad but often a yellow (12 yellows for our Jack - that's not good). It could have cost us badly.
Credit must go to Dolan for not play acting. Unfortunately most players would have done exactly that and perhaps persuaded the ref to give a red. Imagine if that happened against Watford.

Probably a red card and definitely a penalty, which just makes the victory all the sweeter, especially for those of us who remember Olsen’s dive and Dunn’s offside.

Re: Cork red?
well, none of their players even batted an eye lid at the challenge, Dolan, the lad who was challenged didn't even flinch and just looked disappointed he'd lost the ball. Look at the two benches when the ref blows, all Rovers lot are sitting down whilst all our staff are up in arms that a free kick was even awarded. Summed the ref up, proper homer of a ref and made some unfathomable decisions all night

Re: Cork red?
Just watched it back for the first time and it's still not a foul, let alone Yellow or red card. Cleanly wins the ball, in control, isn't reckless, doesn't endanger the safety of his opponent, who he doesn't even touch. Even the guy he tackles just gets on with it like nothing happened, because nothing had happened. Bizarre that anyone wants to see players sent off for making good tackles. One of those where you can tell who has played football and who hasn't.

Re: Cork red?
Technically I thought it was either a red for excessive force (he did jump in, even if his kegs were apart, and I've seen reds given for less), or nothing at all, because he won the ball. Either is arguable - but to suggest ots definitely not a red is to my mind implausible. There's no right or wrong outcome.
That said, as a pragmatic outcome to keep control of the game and 11 v 11, I thought the ref made a sensible decision, particularly as he probably should have booked him 2 minutes earlier.

Re: Cork red?
I thought his feet were off the ground but not near the player so it really can’t be dangerous. The player was not touched or didn’t have to jump out of the way, neither was he unbalanced afterwards.

He has had a number of yellows this season.....
It was a great challenge was it..... He should have picked up a yellow minutes earlier.... I think it looked worse than it was...... Well done Tim.

I thought Cork should have been sent off but the ref disagreed disagrees
I thought Barnes handled the ball. Sadly the ref and and differ again
We do seem to agree however that the ball went in their net once and not at all in ours
