It’s far from a football song ,but how about The England Cricket Teams Anthem, might sound a bit boring to the young ‘uns ,but Jerusalem as the players came out would definitely get people out of their seats ,and one ,or two words could be altered to suit Burnley.
Definitely not this. Suits the England cricket team but it's gone a bit stale.

The best songs are the ones that are unique to a club or at least just a couple. It's why No Nay Never is anthemic and Um Ba Ba is so brilliant; because they're ours. Same goes for Lancashire Home, I think only the Scousers sing it.
The generic stuff ripped from every other club is crap, Allez Allez being the latest.

Have to agree that our “own” songs, or mainly unique ones are the best.

I think having a repertoire is important though - I’d hate us to be a team with one or two songs. So I like Allez Allez Allez; it’s sung at a reasonable pace and the lyrics are excellent.

Not as much as I’d like a Dirty Old Town one though :D

That bus looks class.

Got a feeling we won't see town rammed for this but obviously would love to be wrong. People are at work and many saw the trophy lift yesterday so maybe won't go because of that. Would it usually happen on a weekend but games were on Monday coz coronation?
Part of me wishing I'd gone now....The town was "Rammed" What fantastic scenes. The club truly is the beating heart of Burnley.......and the people!!

Yeah course, impossible to have only unique songs. Agreed the lyrics are good but nobody really listens to that bit, they just get the allez bit which is all a bit Palace Ultras.

100% this. It's bad enough hearing the overuse of Hey Jude and Sweet Caroline at final whistles around most premier league grounds claimed as their individual club songs, let alone also sharing generic chants with them.

Don’t know what the palace chant is ,but it monotonous, think we need something a bit like YNWA ,and play the song just as the players come out,and going into injury time to spur the players on.

How about using the Yellow Submarine tune, and start with ‘In the town where I was born is a man called Kompany’

And when Kompany leaves? It needs to be something which isn't player dependent, unpolitical, simple but profound, and ideally a tune which isn't over used in football. When You're Smiling still has it for me.

Could change it to “ In the town where I was born there’s a team called Burn -er -lee.

I personally think When you’re smiling is a bit cringey to be honest.

Things like this are difficult because they tend to just happen rather than be forced.

Dirty Old Town is the best suggestion.

A truncated version of “We live and die in these towns” by The Enemy is a similar thing.

Definitely needs to be an anthem, not a comedic quip like When you're smiling. IMO of course.

Yeah, I'm not sold on When You're Smiling to be honest - ticks a few boxes but Dirty Old Town and We Live And Die In These Towns are great shouts.

Of course the absolute ideal is a song about Burnley or by a Burnley artist. Maybe someone can uncover something?

Further up the thread we were talking about banners and flags etc. Why we haven't used John Cooper Clarke's poem "Burnley" before is a bit of a head-scratcher to me. It totally fits with that sort of self-deprecating "it's a sh!thole but it's our sh!thole" vibe Burnley fans are so good at.

BURNLEY
I’ll tell you now and I’ll tell you firmly
I don’t never want to go to Burnley
What they do there don’t concern me
Why would anybody make the journey?

I think it’s really unlikely that you’ll find a perfect football anthem/walk out song by a Burnley artist. What we need is a Burnley artist/fans/club to come together remaster a great song with lyrics about the town/club that resonate with all our fans.

Needs to be a catchy tune that appeals to the masses, at a pace everyone can join in, with some bits that are sung a bit more loudly to creat that intimidating atmosphere Vinny speaks of.

The Jordan North poem is a great start, so that gives me some hope they’ll consider topping it off with a walk out song.

Here's 2 songs very much about Burnley. One is very old (The 2 Burnley Mashers) and the other an old advert for the former Building Society.,The Best Dreams Begin with B. The latter written by Salman Rushdie.

The choruses are both sort of catchy. The words are easily adaptable to BFC imo.

I would imagine that the Burnley Mashers was sung in 1914 and 1921 in our glory years.

Following Lancasterclaret's post who wanted a version of 'Sunshine on Leith" , I hope that this altered version to the tune of "Old Pendle" has the requisite number of uniquely local references and no other club will be copying it????

Burnley Oh Burnley we stand alone,
From Gawthorpe to Cliviger, Accy to Colne,
Where Bob Lord once reigned and McIlroy played
Now with Vincent Komp'ny - we're not afraid.

Burnley Oh Burnley majestic sublime,
Your praises we'll sing to the end of all time
In Claret and Blue, our banners unfurled
Our Lancashire club known all over the world.

If Clarets run out on a dark rainy night,
We'll still sing our songs with all of our might,
The true "Pride of Lancashire" - there is no doubt,
The Longside at Turf Moor you'll hear us all shout.

Repeat second verse , which could stand on its own.

With apologies/acknowledgement to composers Brian Osborne and Milton Allen who wrote "Old Pendle'

I've always thought that 'Lonely Boy' by The Black Keys could be adapted to be a football song.

This sort of thing interests me so bear with. As NewClaret says, it may need something written, composed ourselves rather than finding something ready made. If that's the case then I'd like to suggest using some poems from the 1800s. Stay with me.

Williffe Cunliam wrote for the Burnley Free Press And General Advertiser. His work about the Lancashire cotton famine was uncovered fairly recently and studied by the University of Exeter. They even put some of it to song. The poems are about working class Burnley. Seems pretty apt to me?

Now it would need a bit of work, they're written in very strong Lancashire dialect (nowt wrong wi that tho is there lad) but a club from 1882, coming out to lyrics by a Lancashire lad from the same time period? I reckon that's pretty cool.

JJ Watt is always talking about the heritage of the club lately and I think it's an interesting take if we can take some words from the dawn of the football club, revitalise them and sing them at the Turf.

Just chucking an idea out there.

Really like these suggestions. Hadn't heard either. Both very catchy. I'm interested in something having a bit of a link to the town and these are bob on!

Isn't 'Dirty Old Town' a reference to the city where I attended secondary school, Salford?
When we got to the Cup Final in '62 the song sung pre-match during the community singing was 'She's a Lassie from Lancashire' whilst Spurs were afforded 'John Brown's Body'.

Nobody’s convincing me Dirty Old Town isn’t the perfect walk out song for us (to a variation of the words below - sorry forgot who did them)… but 2 Burnley Mashers is catchy and definitely something in that. A close second :D

I think the words need some work but I think it’s the ideal one.

Only slight issue is whether it’s catchy enough to get the ground singing it, as you do for example with the two Sheffield clubs and fill up my senses / hi ho silver lining.

Words do need some work, and “we are Burnley, Burnley FC” needs adding in like the FC United version. Get your point about catchiness - and those two are super catchy (I love fill up my senses) - but I reckon this’d catch on with some help from the big screens.

To the tune of Bad Moon Rising

I see our old Mill town is rising
I see trouble on the way
I hear singing and chantin’
I see good times today
Don’t come out tonight
If you don’t wanna fight.
There’s a mill town on the rise

This is a Man Utd song.
