Max impact.
They have my support. They've had my support even when inconvenienced personally.

May I ask which of the other striking industries have your support? Just curious?Awayfromburnley wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:39 pmMax impact.

I couldn't list them as I don't know all of them.ClaretDiver wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:40 pmMay I ask which of the other striking industries have your support? Just curious?
That said the teachers and NHS staff have my support, they are high profile and their arguments /rationale are clear.
Yea it's partly self interest on their behalf (ie. pay) but also about the future, protecting services and making the services effective and desirable to work in.

no point striking if there is no impact
Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
Strikers don’t have my support , find another way to impact your employers , it’s nothing to do with the public but we always have to suffer

Full support of course.
How else do you effect change.

I know so quite wealthy train drivers with good working hours. Aside from this if I don’t like my employment terms I need to find another job where I do. No support from me.

Yep 50k average is very fair for relatively low skill/stress work, difficult to support thr dusruption. Teachers and some NHS on the other hand absolutely have my support.

Do you actually have any idea what being/becoming a train driver entails?Stanbill05 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 2:09 pmYep 50k average is very fair for relatively low skill/stress work, difficult to support thr dusruption. Teachers and some NHS on the other hand absolutely have my support.
If it's that easy I'd invite you to apply!

Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
50k average of course means many earn less than that.
Throw in changes to working patterns and a reneged pay deal offering 4% for two years and it's no wonder they've told the Rail authorities and the government who control them to do one.
If folk have to make alternative arrangements, they've plenty of time to do so.

Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
Interesting perspective from the Football Supporters Association
Fans come from every corner of society and have a range of different views on strike action.
But we'll tell you what - no strike can cause anywhere near the disruption that broadcasters cause matchgoers every week and we hear NOTHING about that from Sky, BT or the BBC.

An excellent point.
Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
Is it?.....sky only get to be in a position to influence the game because millions of football fans willingly pay them subscriptions every month

Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
Exactly. So anybody contributing to the likes of Sky cannot really complain if, for much stronger reasons, some fans are inconvenienced on Derby or FA Cup Final weekend.
As I said, they've plenty of time to sort out their travel arrangements.

Possibly you could invite Avanti to run a much better service at the same time! How they treat their customers at times beggers belief.MiltonKeynesClaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 3:45 pmDo you actually have any idea what being/becoming a train driver entails?

Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
If lawyers felt they were underpaid or working in unsafe /unfair conditions, then yes of course I would support them. Apply that to absolutely any role or profession.
They've trained to a standard, if that standard is being erroded by poor pay and or poor conditions then they should use their legal rights to protest, whether that is strike or other means.
I cannot believe how much we put up with and rill over and accept things, especially in the UK.
We are being screwed over, divided and arguably conquered - and the masses fall out with each other over semantics.

If driverless trains get to be introduced across the London Underground Network drivers are insisting they remain in the cab to operate the opening and closing of the doors.MiltonKeynesClaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 3:45 pmDo you actually have any idea what being/becoming a train driver entails?

I love annyone asking for 20% wage increases despite the economic fact that this will drive up inflationary prices.

Yes, if my memory serves me correctly that's for a 4 month classroom based course at Crewe. Then 57k once training is successfully completed, then 67k after 2 years.

I'd genuinely consider it at that money to effort ratio, but couldn't cope with the boredom and I've got skills I've worked hard and long for that are worth a lot more.MiltonKeynesClaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 3:45 pmDo you actually have any idea what being/becoming a train driver entails?

Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
I should say, I've reviewed some genuine automation coding for rail services and it's cringeworthy simple compared to real automation challenge. 50k average is bonkers. Without unions they'd already be gone, which is a success story I support for workers, but striking for a double digit payrise is a **** take that will hasten the inevitable.

That first 4 months is core rules. You won't become fully qualified until at least a year and a half to two years in.

Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
I know 3 people who work on the trains.
One a freight / goods train driver, £96k wage last year.
One a maintenance manager, £70k wage last year.
They have just received a pay rise - one gets £350 monrh extra the other £450 month extra.
They both didn't want to strike but got bullied into it.

Re: I see ASLEF are targeting football fans
It is quite often a short career. Experience bonuses are large, because not many last that long. Three fatalities on route and you are retired. I know a former driver of twenty five years service who was ‘retired’ after his third suicide on the line… his first in ten years, none of them his fault.
