Palmer would be direct competition for Zaroury which makes little sense when we have cm and strikers as more needy areas for upgrades

City want to send Palmer out on loan to play at a high level and with the Kompany connection I immediately thought of him coming to us for next season.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think if he was offered the chance to come and play for Burnley he'd grab it. It would mean more opportunities to experience playing in the PL with the additional bonus of learning from one of Man City's best ever players who wants his players to be versatile in a passing style of play.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Reports suggest Palmer is keen on a move overseas with RB Leipzig interested.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Even allowing for Zaroury, we absolutely need another option or starter for that left wing position.
Zaroury had spells last where he lost form, and it will be important next year that we don't have to flog him in the way we had to play McNeil through some rotten form which didn't do anyone any favours in the end. Zaroury is also off to the AFCON next season.
I hope those links we had with Jack Clarke a couple of weeks ago come true.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'd have thought if City wanted him to go out to the likes of Leeds in the Championship they wouldn't have made the point that they want Cole to experience football at the top level next season.
I know nothing has been confirmed yet but I'm going to sit back and await his arrival through our gates pretty soon

The logic being he wouldn't necessarily be starting as many games but for them he would.

Would have thought City would have needed to keep palmer around for their home grown quota, especially for champs league, you have to have 4 players trained at the club between age of 18-21

It is a fact that Leeds gave up their right to be the top level side that City want to loan Palmer out to when they were relegated. Of course they will continue to think they are but the reality is that they are a club in disarray. They are not for Palmer.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 6:31 pmI'm referring to this article

Going to Germany is a bigger threat because of the success of a couple of other young English talented players but Palmer will realise that going abroad is too big a risk now.
Palmer will get sufficient time on the field with us to justify moving here and anyone in any doubt just needs to think about the commentary next season' Palmer threads the ball through to Twine running into space, Twine slots it past the goalkeeper'

I think he’ll be a squad player in the coming season, maybe bag a couple of goals before being loaned out next season in the championship and sold of for a tidy little profit. He looks like he could be a very successful championship player to me at least.
Not starting for ROI (behind Idah and Ferguson) last night, not a good sign?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I’d put that down to him hardly playing last season more than a reflection of his abilities.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 8:19 pmNot starting for ROI (behind Idah and Ferguson) last night, not a good sign?

Ferguson just had a breakout season at Brighton, he’s played his way into the 11 and has been playing prem football, but being behind Idah isn’t a good sign noboatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 8:19 pmNot starting for ROI (behind Idah and Ferguson) last night, not a good sign?

I just hope Obafemi can get up to speed really. Not playing full games, BFC or ROI, isn't going to help him.

Tough to say. Ferguson looks like he could be a real star to be fair. You’d expect him to be getting game time ahead of Idah, but the Irish manager is hardly covering himself in glory at the moment.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 8:19 pmNot starting for ROI (behind Idah and Ferguson) last night, not a good sign?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Encouraging that we expressed interest in Verbruggen, Tresor and Mikautadze last season. Promotion has improved our chances of signing them but the player valuations are now probably £10m a pop higher than last season. Be interesting to see if we sign any of them, or if VK has another batch of targets for PL football.

We won’t pay the 15m Saints want for Tella according to Nixon today.

Perhaps we feel that we can get better value for 15m elsewhere.

He was very good for us but ultimately his record didn’t quite breach the “genuine premier league quality” bracket. Like you say Perhaps VK is thinking he can get Tresor and another for a similar fee. Not sure if Nixon is right on the fee either, seen numerous outlets say they want 20 at least.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Another from Nixon today is that we will move for Antwerp’s French keeper Jean Butez if we miss out on Verbruggen.
Meanwhile Simon Jones in the Mail has added to the Lokonga rumour that we want him on loan.

How does our top scorer not fit the ‘genuine premier league quality’ bracket? I hope we win the first few games to quieten you down again like the most of last season.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 7:28 amAs soon as the season finished Tella was one player I just couldn’t see us getting.

£15m for Tella is good value - surprised we are not all over that. He’s 23 and has ridiculous pace that would be transferable a level higher, can play across the front line and is already loved by fans. No guarantee in any signing but that feels a perfectly reasonable price.

Tella had a very good season but I don’t think he landed in that category of player that’s definitely premier league quality. Without being too critical if you take away the two games where he scored 5 goals against bottom of the league teams then his stats were 12 goals in 37 games (it doesn’t exactly scream Premier league talent).
I would love to sign him but I agree with RV I think VK is probably thinking there is better around for that kind of money.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Agree Tella is less of a risk than, say a player from Fr Ligue 2?
As Champ is a similar standard one would assume (bit higher?), but removes the change of country dynamic / knows team mates. Valuable unknowns to remove.
I think £13m plus add ons if we stay up to bring to £15m / £16m around right.
Let's see, hopefully we are playing the game here.
UTC.

Always hard to tell which players can step up to the PL but looking at Tella's season on its own merits it's hard to see how you concluded that. You refer to his goal scoring stats without realising he wasn't an out and out striker.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 8:10 amI’ve been very positive recently. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He did a lot more than score goals. His off the ball movement, stretching of defences with his pace and infectious enthusiasm were key to our promotion. If we think we can get better for £15m then I will be very excited as to who that player is. I’ve not seen a link to a single player who (highlights reel examples as my only evidence) has anything close to the speed Tella has, and that is going to be key for an out ball/channel ball a level higher.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 8:10 amI’ve been very positive recently. I'd be surprised if he was available for a low as 15m, more like that plus add ons.
