I suspect if we are to do well next season we are more likely to need a goalkeeper with the shot stopping reflexes of Nick Pope rather than one who can pass out from the back.

This board never disappoints. An England U21 has all but signed for the club and yet that isn't enough for some folk, lets highlight his faults. sometimes I do think if we signed the worlds best XI some would find faultAGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 3:18 pmI've just watched the full highlights on Trafford for last season and in all of his games he caught the ball x3 in total, he punched away or parried away every single time and that will be punished in the Premier league

Its a major fault if you dont hold the ball, I'm Just pointing out he doesn't hold or catch the ball much he pushes it away most times, okay in league one the highest level he's played at but will 100% be punished at Premier league levelbuzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 3:44 pmThis board never disappoints. Does anybody know how well he ‘organises his defence’? One of my favourite made up goalkeeper attributes.

You’ve watched a 2 minutes highlights reel which has highlighted his best reflex saves. I can assure you that over a full season he will catch the ball.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 3:50 pmIts a major fault if you dont hold the ball, I'm Just pointing out he doesn't hold or catch the ball much he pushes it away most times, okay in league one the highest level he's played at but will 100% be punished at Premier league level

Or you buy someone who can possibly do three, on the chance you can develop him to do all three, and hey presto, you have a much wanted asset on your handsSpiral wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 3:26 pmI reckon the thing that applied to us last season is the still the same this season, in that any weakness in a player is priced in, and we're making a calculation that the weaknesses are worth it for their strengths. This was something that applied to Muric, especially at the start of last season, and it's the same now, because we're Burnley and we aren't capable of buying complete players. We might get a world class shot stopper (like Pope), someone with amazing composure and control of their area (like Heaton), or someone with genuinely world class distribution (Muric), but the players that have all Pope's reflexes, Heaton's composure and calmness, and Muric's distribution end up playing for Real Madrid.

Some of the reflex saves against Portugal were top drawer, and his passing/feet were good too. He didn't have a lot to against Germany.

If our GK plan for the Premiership is to:
1. Replace our Championship winning GK with a player who has never played a match above league one level as #1
2. Bin off our NI international as #2 and replace him with a non-international (bar one cap at youth level) who has also never played a game above league one level from what I can tell.
3. Promote an 18 year old to cover them both.
I’m pretty worried tbh. That’s not to say it won’t happen but it’d be an area of concern for me.

1. Bring in a young highly rated Man City youngster who has been out on loan and recent fans are raving about; to replace a goalkeeper who potentially may be out of favour with our manager and although was very good last season did have his off performance.
2. Replace a back-up goalkeeper who has never looked good enough to break into being a #1 with an equally or better replacement who comes highly rated and potentially will be cheaper on wages?
3. Retain a solid young keeper in Franchi as a 3rd backup and continue his development.
Makes a difference. I prefer to be optimistic and trust VK and his team.

I have never read such hysterical disrespectful comments about our club and manager as regarding this signing.
Surely VK knows best as he did when he tried to sign Bart last season. He may even believe Trafford is overall better value and therefore backed off when Barts price went too high.
How can all you muppets know better than our manager?

I trust VK for sure, and it’s more concern than negativity, but to be honest a pretty valid concern going in to a new season with two completely new and highly inexperienced (at this level) goalkeepers.whiffa wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 4:44 pmIt's all about perception isn't, I'd rather think:

Muric would of course be as inexperienced, but have one year in a European league, one in a higher league and know the team.
I’m not against the Trafford signing, I t’s an exciting one from potential perspective. Nor Vigeroux, arguably a step up signing a player with three recent fullish seasons over a keeper who hasn’t played competitively.
I just see them as being 2 (initially) and 3 over 1 and 2.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Sounds like we have a few posters on here who believe they are more knowledgeable than VK and Lee Carsley the England U-21 manager in their analysis of a footballer and their future potential, and would be better in control of our finances than VK/Alan Pace are as a team.
Quick question for these posters-if Muric was English and three years younger with his current ability and experience as a twenty one year old, would he have featured for England's U-21 for the last four games. In my opinion he would be no where near that team.
For me this confirms we are pursuing our new business model of recruiting good young players at a sensible fee with good potential sell on fees within a few years, then reinvesting in new players.Brighton and Brentford are proving this works.Imagine how much Toney could have been sold for this window had he not been involved in the betting scandal. Brighton are about to make £50m plus profit on Caicedo and achieved the same profit with the sale of Cucurella.
VK is an amazing manager and judge of a player. Achieved this very successfully in our dominant return to the PL, and I can see him turning up a notch with new players identified in this window. He also has that magical draw which encourages players wanting to join our club and play for him. We should be right behind this guy and our club

You don’t have to have the same knowledge as VK to discuss transfers on a message board. Muric could be in The Big Lebowski and wouldn't look out of place as a character, and there's no other footballer I can think of that I'd say that about. Seems like he's just off in his own little world at times, in a good way, not a bad way.

The fee quoted.is a bit of a head scratcher and however good the kid is it looks a massive un-Burnley-like punt.
Fingers crossed.
