Let's hope he doesn't read this site before putting pen to paper. He might well decide not to bother.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 4:50 pmSo raw that he's kicking off for England Under 21s in ten minutes and he hasn't conceded a single goal in the tournament yet.
Give the new Claret some backing please.

Ramsdale had played on loan in Div 1 and 2 before he started in the Premier League for Bournemouth at 21.

And was initially signed by Bournemouth, aged 19, for less than £1m
Three years later, aged 22, Sheff Utd bought him back for £18.5m
12 months later Arsenal bought him for £24m
There could well be a profit to be made there if he can adapt

The best keepers I’ve seen for Burnley came with very little top level history. If Manchester City are insisting on a buy back, to me they are doing that for very good reason.
I remember signing a ‘top established keeper’, his name was Roger Hansbury with bags of top flight experience with Norwich.

Yes seems nearly as daft a Dortmund paying £25 mil or so for a lad called Jude Bellingham at a similar stage of his career and what became of him do you know?

It is a bit concerning Trafford hasn't even had Championship experience yet.
Man City fans also think it's a great sale for them.
It's a lot of risk, but in Vincent we trust.

We aren't really gonna use this stat to hammer home a negative are we ?
Who cares if he is the 9th or 59th.
One stat I would guarantee regarding Trafford is, if we didn't sign him and went down yet the team who did sign him stayed up the same people trying to find a negative would be very quick to accuse the club of trying to do things on the cheap

Has it not been established that if we end up paying the full £19m then the transfer has been a success?
As someone further up said we need to maybe consider the figure as £14m, which is still not insignificant, but clearly the manager and his team see something in the lad that’s worth it.

We are building a team for success in the Premier league. A keeper of great potential snd talent is a steal at £15m as is THB and Nathan Tella
All three have the skills to become top players and are very good investments.

If the answer is no, that's ok. It just means it hasn't been established that if he costs us £19m it's a good signing.
I think it looks a great signing personally but you don't need to just make things up to respond to people moaning.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Of course it’s a risk but surely VK thinks it’s less of a risk or else he would not be happy to pay this much. It’s got to be the case with almost all players we sign that the higher we are prepared to pay the more that VK believes it will be a success.
Does not mean it’s guaranteed but based on his track record so far VK has plenty of credit in the bank.
Funny how many of the posters who are concerned about it are quoting £19m instead of £14m.

The logic that if the player hits all the performance related milestones (whatever they are) it isn’t in some way beneficial for us is, I think, a bit of a stretch.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 9:16 amIf the answer is no, that's ok. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There seems to be a trend for £15m to be the asking price for all highly promising but inexperienced youngsters coming from the top academies or teams.
Chelsea’s £25m for Maatsen is a rare exception, that seems OTT. Beyer, THB, Trafford, Tella - all around that £15m figure and no doubt there are many other players like that too. Feels like a loan with an obligation to buy is the best route if we want several, but their clubs will be holding out for a permanent sale first.

I 100% back what is happening, but lets not beat around the bush here, we'd be laughing ourselves silly if another promoted club spent that amount of money on a keeper with no premier league experience and at that age
