Benson is better than everyone on that list, maybe level with Beyer.
Opinions!

I don’t think he is, he’s a good footballer, but I don’t think he’s as good as those mentioned.

I’d agree, if I was basing it on everything but his performances. These opinions are based on his performances and my observations…

I could say I don’t like his hair, and his eyes are too close together…

That would be irrational 😂
The performances that took us to the top of the league, with over 100 points? Those performances?

Hatred doesn’t have to be irrational, but in this instance it clearly is.

Hang on a minute, you rate Wout over Benson? (I'm only understanding that because Wout was on the list and Benny was not.)

I don't think even Wout rates Wout over Benson, and that's saying something.

I do think WW is going to be great if he stays…

I also think he wasn’t to blame for the way he was brought into the club and then left. He was bang on to want to play at the highest level he could in a WC year.

I also reckon he told Roberts what a plank he is in a true straight talking Dutch way!
Okay so you don't rate Roberts as a footballer (daft but you're entitled to your opinion), but what evidence do you have that Roberts is a "plank"?

Benson had a better goal return than Weghorst against Premier League teams last season as a Championship player

I get the sentiment here, but why is anyone comparing the two? Completely different players, in different positions with different careers.

Nah, it's reyt, when there's more transfer news it'll go back to transfer chat. Anyway, this convo grew from a discussion about signing a RB, so it's technically on topic.

Why don’t you just start a Roberts and Weghorst thread instead of ruining the thread with your petty arguments?

Bensons good but I think people make him out to be brilliant when he’s yet to prove it consistently at the highest level. Wout has.

I'll never understand how people can moan that a footy thread on a footy forum has ruined by having a conversation about football players. I think there's even a 'strictly transfer links, do discussion' thread on the forum somewhere.

I think at Benny's age Wout has just signed for Wolfsburg if I'm not mistaken, so it's more sure footed and balanced to base any comparison on ability rather than 'success' given Wout has had longer to stuff his trophy cabinet to the brim with his single solitary league cup winners medal for being on the pitch when his ManUtd teammates won it last year. With that said, all Benny has to do is score three PL goals all season and he's literally achieved more than Wout as a premier league footballer. Benny will do that by November.

I've no idea how reliable Will Lancaster is on Twitter, apparently some kind of journalist, but here's what he's just had to say about Wout...

If we play in a similar way to how we played last season. he'd be pretty much perfect.

I expected us to play a lot more on the counter attack

He’s got everything to prove, but we have to trust Kompany here. He’d definitely suit our current style more than his last sojourn with us, but the inability to score goals at this level is a pretty major concern.

Perhaps this explains the lack of any real links to a centre forward?

I'm not so sure the striker role in Kompany's system is about getting goals. (On the basis of last season.) He's pretty much said this himself.

But yes, I take your points.

He did the very opposite of this for us. Criticise his goal output, for sure. But his link up play was/is very good.

If he’s made up with the squad and Kompany has got him fully on board then that suits me. My main concern was him fitting back in with the team but I trust Kompany as a man manager. From a stylistic perspective I think it’s a good fit for what he wants from a striker in our system and if it saves us money to buy someone like Mikautadze to play off him I’m all for it.

I’m not expecting our striker to get 15 but I would expect a striker to get at least 7-8 for us next season.

Not sure Weghorst gets remotely close to that total.

But this is a new system with some creative players, so I guess we will just have to wait and see. VK must think he has something if he’s willing to give him a chance. I do worry about his reception though, not sure there’s been many Burnley players in the past with such a poor reputation with the fans

He did the very opposite of this for us. Criticise his goal output, for sure. But his link up play was/is very good.
I was never convinced by it, personally.

Jay is more aggressive than Wout, quicker, better shot. Foster looks to have the potential to be way more physical, but just needs to learn how to be more mentally aggressive. I think we need more than 'some nice touches' from Wout. If we allow Foster to grow into the role we might see him become the player he was expected to become earlier in his career. ksr's 'cluttering up our play' is a great way of putting it. I don't see him bearing down on goal like Jay can/Barnes/even Foster, and as fair as Wout's touches might be, I don't think it's enough to justify having a lumbering Ent up front.

The guy has a 1 in 2 record in the bundesliga (59 in 118 games), he knows where the net is. He's obviously not in great form, and he struggled under Dyche. But at the end, everyone was. I think out of everyone next season, if he stays, he'll suprise the most.

The thing about this "link-up play" is that whoever is providing the link is then required to be making haste to an area where he may get a shot at goal.

Think Dyche had little to no idea of what to do with him. Think he heard he was 6ft5 and salivated at the prospect of all the hoofs forward and Roberts' famous "long throw."

His record in the prem is w@nk. He had the equivalent of a full season in England as a striker and scored a grand total of two goals, and half of that time with a team that finished third.
