At least its a rumour but I wouldn't touch Adams not Premier league standard
The only Saints player we need is Nathan Tella

I don’t get this view at all. Adams has been a relatively successful striker at prem levelWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:00 pmAt least its a rumour but I wouldn't touch Adams not Premier league standard

His goal contribution returns are considerably better than Jay rods at that level.

So you'd spend £15m on Adams and leave prolific highly gifted Tella at St Mary's?

Where has anyone said we want to sign Adams over Tella ?Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:05 pmSo you'd spend £15m on Adams and leave prolific highly gifted Tella at St Mary's?
As a comparison though both players represented Southampton in the Prem
Adams best season at Championship level 22 goals in 46 for Birmingham and 9 goals in 36 in the Prem
Tella best season at Championship level 17 goals in 39 and 1 in 18 in the Prem
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Yes Tella has been exceptional inchampionship. But.
Is he good enough for the premier league. When Southampton were in premier league they deemed not. And shipped him on loan to us. What has changed since?

I just don’t get your logic. Adams has had a pretty decent career to date in the prem. he’s got 38 goals contributions in 123apps. Roughly a 1 in 3 return. That’s not a bad return at all.
He’s just about hitting his peak and I think he suits our type of football.
Not an exciting signing but certainly not a bad one

They got relegated without him and we got promoted with him, someone at Burnley obviously thought there was something about him to warrant the loan and we are also interested in bringing him back for the Premier league, not sure what Adams did last season, but I know what Tella did.

We will beg to disagree I think Adams is not what we need you don't

A full season playing competitive football at a decent level. You could see him develop over the season and we sent back a better player than the one we received.

Again it is more in response where you claim one is highly gifted despite none of his stats being better than the player you are making out he isn't any goodWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:16 pmWe will beg to disagree I think Adams is not what we need you don't

Might open the door for TBH if thats the case, but I think we were probably focused on the Left hand sideLancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:22 pmhttps://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/stat ... 2090442756

The mandatory purchase thing (especially if we got relegated) worried me somewhat so I'm not too fussed about this
Mind you, I know absolutely nothing about him so he could be well worth it for all I know
Where is Newcastle and his knowledge of Bundesliga reserve games when you want him?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.

Seems pretty bizarre that the player would get to the final stages (medical) then a disagreement over an already agreed deal.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:22 pmhttps://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/stat ... 2090442756

Was concerned at lack of confirmation on him - still am about Trafford too.
Coulibaly seemed a really weird deal from the second it was mooted, let’s be honest. We all trust Kompany’s eye but as an outsider it looked very odd in terms of price. If that is off I really hope we get THB in.

He’d had a long injury and needed game time…
They certainly didn’t expect him to have the season he did, nor did we but he did and Saints may want to keep him as a result

Heard the same this morning that medical was completed but deal stalled due to “details”. Assumed that was work permit though.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:22 pmhttps://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/stat ... 2090442756

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I’m just not sure THB will come in now. I read Coulibaly had also played full back for the Dortmund II so I semi expected him to play left back for us, if he was to get game time this season. THB will surely be keen to start most games and in my opinion we’ve got Al-Dakhil for 3.5m who looked just as good as THB last season.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:35 pmWas concerned at lack of confirmation on him - still am about Trafford too.

Also City want 15m NOW for him, with Coulibaly it was next summer, therefore not effecting the present cash flow at all.

124 games (don’t know how many total minutes)Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:06 pmCan you qualify what you mean by 'relatively successful'.please?
38 goals / assists
That’s a goal contribution in roughy every 3.2 games (assuming he played 90 mins in all those 124 games)
And he did that for a side that has struggled. It’s a decent return imo. Whether he’s actually a factor in why they struggled is another story, I don’t know Southampton well enough to comment.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It seems strange for the Coulibaly transfer/loan having got to this stage if there had not already have been a clear understanding of the mechanics of the "mandatory" purchase in 12 months. Maybe AP has slept on it and no longer comfortable with the exposure. At least the player seems to have passed the medical

Obviously guesswork, but maybe Dortmund moved the goalposts re the mandatory clause, perhaps so it wasn't dependent on staying the in the PL. Does suggest we aren't taking any **** from clubs, but some serious time and effort wasted there.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
An earlier post suggested the lad had failed his medical rather than problems with the sale. If he did get as far as having a medical the rest of the deal is likely to have been sorted
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The thing is though that we've seen what's happened next with Adams. With Tella you still have that potential of pushing on and developing into a really good player.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:11 pmWhere has anyone said we want to sign Adams over Tella ?

I must admit, while I’m not anywhere near panic mode yet, I’m approaching the stage of feeling we really need to be getting a couple more in sooner rather than later with the start of the season now less than a month away

Its possible Pep has called VK and told him we have first refusal on THB as the player wants to play for us. I am sure the £15m could be paid in 4 installments. Its starting to look attractive, and a sound investment . Please let it happen

I imagine this all centred on the ‘what if’ of relegation, and if that is the case then rightly so in my opinion. It always looked dodgy to me in the eventuality of Coulibaly possibly ending up being rubbish and us getting relegated but needing to spend £15m on him.

Just find it hard to believe that something as important as the terms of the mandatory buy clause weren’t sorted pre-medical, really.
If that’s true I feel sorry for the player.

Re: Coulibaly.
Strange deal from the start with his lack of playing time. If he has failed a medical, speculation, it suggests he has fitness problems and is possibly the reason Dortmund want rid and with an obligatory purchase.

I think Coulibaly being left footed was a deciding factor in trying to sign him, signing THB doesn’t make sense when we already have 4 right footed CBs.
The main thing to keep us positive that not many clubs that you expect us to be fighting with next season have done much business either
