Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I like Taylor and I think he's good enough for this league if he's used in a system that suits him. Ours isn't that though imo, and I dont think we will change approach enough for him to be comforfable, he's just quite a limited player. Good, but limited. He probably is better defensively than Maatsen, but his end product and all round game are short of what is required in this system. He probably has some value and it would be nice to put it towards a new LB, wether that be Maatsen, Gomez or whoever. Shame we didn't get that Ryan Manning as he looked a decent option for back up.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 6:10 pmGiven the players that we're reportedly trying to bring in to play further forward and more importantly, the fact that we're going to be doing a LOT more defending next season than last, I'm at a loss to understand why the majority on here seem to be so eager to replace/offload Charlie Taylor and some indeed for us spend top-dollar to buy Ian Maatsen.
Our dominance last season allowed VK to predominantly field aggresive/attacking sides, so quite rightly, Ian Maatsen was the preferred left back. However, I suspect that nobody (OK, there's the regular trolls) would argue that CT is better than Maatsen when we're under pressure - how often did CT come on to close-out games? To my mind, we'll moreoften (every game?) need to be defensively much stronger next season and in Charlie Taylor we already have an experienced,Premiership quality left back.

we can't play the same way as we did last season, needs a tweak like Silva did at Fulham. We will get picked off in the PL a lot easier imho

Well watching Amdouni on YouTube, he looks like a zaroury with bells on.. i know one should never read to much into YouTube stuff.. but he has balance , a turn of speed close ball control and can step of either foot… looks very promising and a good buy

I'm forever grateful for everything we have achieved in the last decade, for every silver spoon-fed Premier League supporter we've upset with our style of play, and every manager and player that's taken exception to our approach.
But to see how things are done now, especially transfers, where we don't go for the tried and tested, staid players that became the norm, I'm still having to read articles a few times before they sink in.
Claret and blue dreamland.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
“Gotten” was the original past participle of the verb “to get” and was used in early English upto and including writers like Shakespeare, Milton, Dryden etc. When the English settlers moved to America in the early 1600s they would have used the word “gotten” and continue to so until the present day: it is still used as a past participle in words like “forgotten”, “ ill begotten “ etc as well as in dialects in North Eastern England. It was the Brits who started using the abbreviation “got” much later in the late 18th century.
So really “gotten” could be considered the correct usage of the two and it was we English who corrupted the usage much later.

Interesting. I didn't know the history of it, although I knew 'gotten' was American English.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 9:23 pm“Gotten” was the original past participle of the verb “to get” and was used in early English upto and including writers like Shakespeare, Milton, Dryden etc. When the English settlers moved to America in the early 1600s they would have used the word “gotten” and continue to so until the present day: it is still used as a past participle in words like “forgotten”, “ ill begotten “ etc as well as in dialects in North Eastern England. All languages move on and English is no exception, and as the home of the language I'd argue that we haven't corrupted our native tongue, merely moved it on; using gotten in the USA is simply a reminder of their colonial past.
I was, of course, greatly amused to see that it's Vino blanco that draws our attention to correct usage
Anyway back to transfer rumours and discussions.

It doesn’t matter what the system is Charlie is a one trick pony. Push and run down the line, close his eyes and belt it across. I’ve bleated for years about his lack of a right foot and how every team we play know he will never come infield and always overlap. This is so easy for the defenders to take up position against.
I have the utmost respect for him as a PL defender and until better is aboard we should keep him.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I would hope we’re valuing McNally in the £5m range in any prospective deal. Thomas has done very well in multiple loans now and is still very young. When you consider we got about a million for Josh Benson from Barnsley, I think we’d rightly value Thomas at about £1.5m too.
Hypothetically £5m plus those two would be a fair deal for a 26 year old with a year left, in my opinion. I doubt Coventry fans would see it that way but they’re almost at North Stand Chat circa 2017 levels of delusion.
We could craft a really decent deal for ourselves here. Hamer looked a really good player everytime I watched him last season - I just hope that should we bring him in we’re also looking at a more physically imposing central midfielder in addition to him.

Really rate Hamer the only one issue is sometimes he has looked like a walking yellow card and we all know what premier league refs have been like with us in the past
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Looking at his highlights on youtube he's certainly got an eye for a pass and a poacher's instinct. Quite a few of those goals might have been saved by a better keeper but he definitely has talent and I could see him fitting into the way we play under VK. Could certainly bring some competition to Weghorst, Twine and Rodriguez.swissguy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 2:07 pmHello everyone. As an FC Basel fan my view on your new striker Zeki Amdouni: Amdouni will join Burnley FC for a fee rumoured to be above 15 million euros according to the most reliable sources around FC Basel. He‘s a player capable of playing as the number 9 or behind the striker. Having only joined Basel last summer on loan (with buy option) from Lausanne he straightaway was their best player in my opinion, even though he didn’t start scoring regularly until the start of this year. His abilty in tight spaces, technical abilities and game intelligence are amazing. He can finish off either foot and scores some headers as well. He‘s fairly quick on the first few metres but lacks some pace afterwards. it will be interesting to see how he can adapt to the physical demands of the PL. Wherever he‘s been it always took him some months to get comfortable and start scoring so give him time before you judge him.
