I would hope we’re valuing McNally in the £5m range in any prospective deal. Thomas has done very well in multiple loans now and is still very young. When you consider we got about a million for Josh Benson from Barnsley, I think we’d rightly value Thomas at about £1.5m too.

Hypothetically £5m plus those two would be a fair deal for a 26 year old with a year left, in my opinion. I doubt Coventry fans would see it that way but they’re almost at North Stand Chat circa 2017 levels of delusion.

We could craft a really decent deal for ourselves here. Hamer looked a really good player everytime I watched him last season - I just hope that should we bring him in we’re also looking at a more physically imposing central midfielder in addition to him.
Agree on all of this.

Hamer is probably worth about £10-12m, especially with one year left - no more and we should go and look in Europe if they think he is. McNally is worth at least £5m. Or £10m if they’re asking crazy money for Hamer!

We should also be securing something decent for Thomas, I think £1-2m is fair but both deals should have good sell on clauses.

Totally agree I think McNally and Thomas with 20% sell on clauses on both plus 3 or 4m for Hamer, if not walk away and look around Europe

Don't forget government fuelled inflation
Apparently Pickford is valued at £70m by Everton as they need some very expensive steel girders for the White Elephant stadium. We need to keep up with the game
Bobby Thomas at £3m and McNally at £7m in this current mental window.

If they are serious about selling Hamer then they won't get a better deal than two promising young CB's plus cash, especially as they need CB's. I'm sure Robins will want the deal but it depends on how greedy the club are.

It doesn’t matter what the system is Charlie is a one trick pony. Push and run down the line, close his eyes and belt it across. I’ve bleated for years about his lack of a right foot and how every team we play know he will never come infield and always overlap. This is so easy for the defenders to take up position against.
I have the utmost respect for him as a PL defender and until better is aboard we should keep him.
Quite a few seem to know what our system is going to be this coming season, I was hoping to be enlightened.
My question had nothing to do with Charlie Taylor, or any other player for that matter. 👍

Ditto.

Didn’t we pay around £4m for him, and his stock has risen since?

Redmond wouldn’t be a loan deal.
He’s a free agent
I think what he was saying that one of the loan spots could be reserved for Diallo. And that Dialo + Redmond could be our Tella alternative.

For Coventry, with McNally, it’s similar to our situation with Tella & Mattsen, they did that well for us that their valuation doubled.

There’s some mention on Twitter that we may be interested in Benjamin Mandy. Very hard to find anything definitive so don’t know if this has any legs or it is simply a link to us because of his former association with VK

Chelsea signed a 17 year old left back from Everton for £4 million.

Can't harm our prospects of bringing Maatsen in if Vinny wants him.

That would give us a squad of:
Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Denis Franchi, Lawrence Vigouroux, Arijanet Muric (+ Trafford makes 5)
Dara O’Shea, Charlie Taylor, Jordan Beyer, CJ Egan-Riley ,Connor Roberts,Bobby Thomas ,Hjalmar Ekdal ,Luke McNally ,Vitinho ,Ameen Al-Dakhil (10)
Jack Cork, Josh Brownhill, Josh Cullen, Samuel Bastien (4)
,Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson, Manuel Benson, Anass Zaroury, Darko Churlinov, Redmond (5)
Jay Rodriguez,Scott Twine,Wout Weghorst ,Lyle Foster, Michael Obafemi, Amdouni (6)

I make that 30 first team players over 21 if we sign those three and we still could do with cover at full back and cm.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Franchi, BPF, Egan-Riley, Thomas, McNally, Bastien, Churlinov and Weghorst not being in that list come the end of the window which would bring us back down to 22 so still space for three more.

Would Trafford, Egan Riley and al-dakhil need to be registered in the 25 man squad with them being 21 and younger?

Yeah I’m convinced, based on nothing, that Maatsen comes back late in the window. He won’t get a game there and he’s on a free in a year.

It's possible. Only problem is if it's really late in the window, what do we do with the left back position in the meantime? Taylor and Vitinho options as it stands, but they don't come close to offering us what Maatsen did.

I'd love Maatsen back but don't think we can wait and wait on the possibility of Chelsea eventually letting him go. It's a huge priority position I'd say, we can do with getting someone in sooner rather than later

I don't think with Maatsen it is as important to sign him early as it normally would be.

We can all agree there is a high likelihood that we won't be beating City on the first game, with Luton postponed the week after our next game would be Villa on 27th August, so plenty of time to wait on Chelsea to get that deal done, plus Maatsen wouldn't be a brand new signing and need a pre-season/extra time to learn the Kompany system having been here last season.

I think I am correct in saying that Amdouni will be Burnley's record transfer at £15.5m (if the 18m Euro's fee is correct)? At least until/if Trafford's add-ons kick in.

Yeah I’m convinced, based on nothing, that Maatsen comes back late in the window. He won’t get a game there and he’s on a free in a year.
We’d be best placed getting one (Manning would’ve been perfect) just so Chelsea can’t bend us over.

Manning would’ve been very decent to start the season and then compete for the slot.

But that’s probably why he didn’t want to sign - he’ll start every week at Southampton and they’ve a very decent chance of promotion

Possibly but I think he’d have had a decent chance of starting every week here.

Always remember Ben Mee saying Frank had told him he
was happy with his back line but he’d start the season due to injuries and him saying that was enough for him as he backed himself to keep his spot once in the team.

Anyway, broader point would be having an option might help our negotiations…

Chelsea signed a 17 year old left back from Everton for £4 million.

Can't harm our prospects of bringing Maatsen in if Vinny wants him.

He needs a LB already. Wonder if he’ll use this to buy Charlie?

How tall is Amdouni? Wikipedia says 5 foot 9 but he’s clearly 6 foot plus I would say going off the videos.

What exactly is our 'system' for this coming season?
It won't be 442 with defensive full backs for a start.

You don't need to know what it is to know what it isn't. If you disagree and think we will play a system that will suit Taylor then please feel free to say so. I think you'll be in the minority though.

Trafford, Egan-Riley, Franchi all are 20 so wouldn't hit the age quota.
Al Dakhil is 21 but unless the rules changed it used to be if you're 20 at the start of the calendar year- he was, so would also not hit the limit.
So that puts us on 26. McNally will likely go or be loaned, ditto Thomas. Bastien & Churlinov I've not written off but can see leaving. I'm firmly team 'keep Wout' but not convinced we will. Think it's likely BPF goes, and not impossible that Taylor or Jay leave.

I think realistically our actual number of over 21s, assuming we sign Trafford, Amdouni & Redmond, is at most 24, more likely 21 (McNally, Thomas, BPF leaving). Potentially smaller still. So we'd have room for the CM and LB that we still need.

Players of Ben Mee's mentality are a rarity. There's a reason he became our captain, that he's one of Brentford's main media men, and that he's slotted in seamlessly. Most players want a chaser to compete with, not a first teamer they have to dislodge.

Transfermarkt and Whoscored have him at 6ft - 6'1"
FBref and Sofascore have him as 6 foot

I think Wikipedia have a digit error in transcription- everywhere else has him at 183cm or 185cm, they have him as 175cm.

Says 175 on wiki but 185 on another site so maybe 6ft 1
