Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Taylor is an excellent "defender", albeit at left back rather than CB where he looks far less effective. I'd go so far as to say that based on last season he's clearly a better "defender" than Maatsen. However, Taylor is certainly not the kind of ball playing defender our way of playing seems to be requiring these days. Anyone who watched him away at Blackburn last season saw exactly this in a nutshell. Defended really well, but gave every Clarets fan a VERY squeaky trumper each and every time when trying (and largely failing) to play out from the back. He's definitely worth keeping imo, but if he's required to play, we have to be fully aware of his limitations.

You never know - if we play a 3 at the back formation next season Taylor could really thrive as a LCB in a three - I certainly wouldn’t be letting him go for a pittance, senior pro, good lad and can fill in at centre half or full back!…
We would be literally creating a hole for nothing

I've read enough of your posts to not need to read anymore, I've disagreed with you. I think Taylor did well in our system last season.boyyanno wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:02 pmYou've obviously not bothered to read all my posts about this. I like Taylor, he's a good player, but he does need to be played in a system that suits him and the way we line up under Kompany is not that. To quote another poster he looked like a fish on a bike sometimes last season. He's good but limited.

I think the Blackburn was a one off , he’d had little match practice, he’s normally very good at everythingDark Cloud wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:15 pmTaylor is an excellent "defender", albeit at left back rather than CB where he looks far less effective. Player swap deals seem to be few and far between nowadays. Ultimately, it’s for us to make them an offer and for the selling club to make a decision one way or t’other.LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:06 pmStrange one the Hamer story. Coventry supposedly happy to be in actual talks with us regarding the two players on offer plus cash then back out as they sign Latibeaudiere. However they are still well short in the CB department and have lost some key players elsewhere. Perhaps we should up the cash a little and remove Thomas from the deal to offset that value. Or perhaps we can back to Millwall for Flemming and up the offer and or include McNally there.
As per normal, what the player wants will have an impact on things, especially when he can walk away for free in less than 12 months time!
Only question now is do we go back in with another offer; say £11 million plus McNally? I reckon that might do it?!
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
You said you didn't see my problem with Taylor- I don't have one. I think he's a good, and premier league capable left back. So we agree on that front
What I did say and have continued to say, despite others twisting it, is that I don't think he suits how we play under Kompany. If you think he does then that's fair enough and I reserve the right to also respectfully disagree.

Flemming only £12.8m, mcnally and £7m would seal that one I reckon.LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:06 pmStrange one the Hamer story. Coventry are a joke when it comes to selling players. Until Gyokeres, they had literally only received a fee for 2 other players in the last 5 years. They price everyone out.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:07 pmor perhaps we should just not bother dealing with Coventry full stop

Which is up to them I guess? Although it does seem a strange one considering the financial problems they have had!? Not sure what state of play they are in financially at the moment, but I’m sure the Gyokeres deal will have helped.roperclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:32 pmCoventry are a joke when it comes to selling players. Coventry weren't a bad side last season, it's possible that they could challenge for promotion if they use the Gyokeres money well. I can't see why they would sell Hamer in this window.

Pretty sure Hamer will leave this window
I'm not sure he's what we need, but I don't know who else is coming into midfield either so happy enough with this

Yes, but that doesn't rule out his signing a new one. Or perhaps they will wait until the winter window to see how they are doing.

Between them Gykores and Hamer provided 32 goals and more than 20 assists last season. That is a hell of a lot to try and replace if they decide to sell both during this window. All depends on their level of ambition for the upcoming season I guess.

Coventry have played it perfectly so far.
Stuck to their guns on Gyokeres and got €24m for him. So far, sticking to their guns on Hamer.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Half of me thinks fair play to Coventry for not selling cheap, the other half thinks let McNally go to Millwall and help them in to the play offs at Coventrys expense.
I think someone is going to get a good deal with McNally and given they apparently want him back I'm surprised they seem to be playing hard ball.
He'll likely leave on a free if they aren't promoted so if they don't sell him then they're taking a big gamble imo.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
That's way too much.
We should be looking for in excess of 5 million for McNally.
11+5 (16) would be our record signing, I think (excluding any add-ons for someone like Trafford)
We can do better than Hamer for 16 million, and doubt that Coventry will get anything like that sum for a player who can walk away for nothing at the end of the season. They might try to persuade him to sign a new contract, so it depends how much he wants a move to the PL.
{I honestly can't see Coventry getting promotion this season considering the strength of the Championship}

Coventry can't afford to keep him that's why he won't sign a new deal, I've read he's on 7k a week at Coventry and he wants 30k so they'll have to sell him or lose him for freenil_desperandum wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 6:29 pmThat's way too much.

They had a decent defender in McNally for the second half of the season alongst with a decent Midfielder in Hamer and Gyorkes up front.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:43 pmCoventry weren't a bad side last season, it's possible that they could challenge for promotion if they use the Gyokeres money well. They are now very light at the back and will need to use their money wisely. Should be OK next season. Good luck to em. No feelings either way.

Coventry have the potential to get back to the prem and be a good club, but never seen a fan base as obsessed with their own players as they are ‘Hamer loves the club, won’t leave and will sign a new deal because Coventry gets the best out of him’ they need to be realistic, they should get money for him whilst they can, probs roughest championship on paper ever so this year they will struggle to get top 6

They have enough from the sale of Gyokeres to buy McNally and Thomas plus a striker without selling Hamer. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Both Elyounoussi and Ajeti played in way better Basel teams compared to Amdouni. I think Elyounoussi benefited a lot from his good teammates, he was a good scorer but his potential was limited. Ajeti played as a pure number 9 with his focus on scoring goals and holding the ball up whereas Amdouni was all over the pitch creating chances for himself and for others while keeping up with the other two in terms of numbers. So yeah, way higher ceiling than both the mentioned players. Also Amdouni exploded in the second half of the season, getting 32 goal contributions in 38 matches for club and country.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 3:58 pmNot questioning your viewpoint on this topic, but out of interest in what respect?
From what I can tell Elyounoussi and Ajetti had a better goal contribution record at a very similar age.
Elyounoussi got 19 goal contributions in 33 games.
Ajeti got 18 in 32 games.
While Amboundi had 16 in 32
I know there’s not a lot in it stats wise, are you saying that Amboundi has a higher ceiling or is just generally better all round?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
McNally has the potential to be a 10-15m+ pound player if he progresses
over the next two seasons and I suspect VK may well feel that is the case
and I suspect Coventry may well feel the same.
So 5m for him now seems pretty low to me.
Whereas Coventry wanting 15m for Hamer seems excessive to me
especially if he can go for a free next season.
But I can't blame Coventry for holding out for as much as they can get.
I suspect we'd do the same in their position.
Be interesting to see if we go back with a better offer?
Anyone know what's happened to the Arsenal midfielder
(Lokonga, is it?). We seem to have been linked with him for weeks.
Possible loan to buy?

If Amdouni signs, I think he'll wear 25 or the 23 vacated by Tella. He's worn both previously.
