I think we only want one quality CM. We’ve may have a few on the wish list, but that’s the way we seem to work now. When we snag one we’ll move on from the others. We may also bring in one that can play both CAM and wider too.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 7:33 amPretty certain VK sees Cullen as a starter and is looking for an upgrades elsewhere in midfield. He’s already mentioned the need for a more physical presence and given the links it appears we are after at least one or two defensive midfielders and at least one attacking midfielder.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
If we don't count Bastien, we currently have 3 traditional central midfielders in Cork, Brownhill and Cullen. If we were to bring in 2 more, we would have 5 + Gudmundsson who can occasionaly play there. That in my opinion is a healthy balance of quality and experience.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 7:18 amThe thought process is if we bring in Vrankx and Lokonga then I was thinking one of them three might be getting moved out to recoup some money.
As that would leave us with cullen, Vrankx, Lokonga, then two of the other three names mentioned
If we were to move any of the three players you mentioned, we would still need to bring someone instead because we can not afford to be lightweight in any position. Also worth mentioning that Brownhill is the only player who can actually recoup money. No one is going to pay much for Cork or JBG.

It was the same last year, the year before that and the year before that. I wouldn't be surprised if the year before that was the same as well.
The only surprise is that you seem surprised!

I read Chelsea have turned down 40m for Gallagher. He’s a fine young player but not worth more than that. They are desperate for income and yet are still linked with every big name that crops up.
I see Poch played Maatsen wide left again. Either he rates him there or he doesn’t want him at FB.
I think if we keep our powder dry his price will come down.

We've completed the signing of the Italian lad from Espanyol. Luca Koleosho. Confirmed by Mike McGrath.

JBG will be useful in the Prem. Good PL experience that we need and I really enjoyed his new role as a left sided 8 last season. No chance we’ll be selling.

Just read that Massengo lad from Bristol City has turned us down because we couldn’t guarantee first team football.
How genuine that is I don’t know.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The problem is, no one in PL probably wants them (and we shouldn't sell to rivals anyway) and I'm not sure if many Championship clubs could actually afford the fee and their wages.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 10:31 amI think we could still get a bit for Cork and JBG. If we sold them we would still need a replacement. And I don't think we can find players with that much experience (Cork) or versatility (JBg) for a similar sum.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Telegraph reporting we are interested in Jonny Evans.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He played all sorts of roles last year.
Filled in at left CDM once or twice, played in the hole, both wings, budget De Bruyne, and for a few games was practically a free role, I remember him dropping into left wingback while Maatsen would push up into the middle and attack a few times.
I'd never expected him to be so versatile. That plus his experience makes him a must keep for me. Same reason I really rate Vitinho - young and versatile,he's got time to get better, has raw potential already and can fill multiple roles. For the style we play now that adaptability is very important.

Long thought we could do with an experienced centre back when you look at the age and inexperience of our back line. Ekdal mid 20-s yes but with due respect, hasn't played at a high level prior to this. Evans on a one year deal to advise Beyer, Al-Dakhil and the like and step in off the bench if required would be a smart signing....in my opinion!

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Really not convinced by Evans. Didn't play too much last season but did play in some of the games where their defence was a genuine embarrassment. Not too averse to signing a wise head for the dressing room like Dyche used to, though.

CT has just posted a thread about how good this board can be and you come up with another pointless repost.
If you don’t agree with a post air a response as to why. That is just a totally irrelevant dig at a fellow Claret.

Don’t disagree with your point but I’d rather have VK back with his boots on than Evans. Seems injured more than he’s fit the last couple of years.jedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 11:21 amLong thought we could do with an experienced centre back when you look at the age and inexperience of our back line. Evans is an injury waiting to happen. Extremely experienced and a good defensive brain-I saw him about half a dozen times at Leicester in the last season or two -hes not for us.

Really excited by Koleosho on the clips I’ve found - great prospect and the type of supplementary signings to our ‘core’ business this summer which show our long term ambition.
