I'm still hoping we might have a couple of more players in before Fri or early next week

If he comes in you’d think that’s it for wingers/attacking midfielders. We’ll be well stocked. Not sure where it leaves Townsend.
Larsen has had a mediocre last few years by the looks of it, having shown a lot of promise as a youngster.
Kompany had him on loan at Anderlecht tho, so will know him.

Maybe not that odd
Gives us a year to look at him and make sure before we buy him, similar to what we did with Beyer
If his contract was up in 2024 wouldn’t that have meant we’d get him for free?

You’d think he comes with an option. They were supposedly happy to let him go for a few €m earlier this summer. Presumably the fee would be fixed now rather than pay through the nose for him in 12 months if it does go well here.

If we end up with another Beyer, then I’m sure we’d all be happy.
Well, not another Beyer, but you know what I mean….

Its beginning to feel a little like Newcastle under Keegan to me...doesn't matter how many you score...we will always score one more...properly forward heavy...anyway, what do I know.

Amazing isn’t it, you only need go back an handful of pages in this thread and plenty moaning about us signing too many defenders.Pheonixknight wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 8:07 amIts beginning to feel a little like Newcastle under Keegan to me...doesn't matter how many you score...we will always score one more...properly forward heavy...anyway, what do I know.
I imagine in a few pages time the concerns about a need for central midfielders will also have been addressed.

No, I just trust that they know what they are doing and don’t think you have to sign players in order of priority.
I’m certain we will have strengthened in midfield before we kick off the season.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Unlikely Obafemi will be named in the squad with his injury so there's another free space
What I find exciting about this is we aren't going to be a couple of injuries away from bodging a team together and we can rest players in the cup without essentially throwing the tie away

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
When can we change our squad list? At the end of January? Wouldn't surprise me if we omitted Obafemi because he's unlikely to feature for some time.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
If kompany sees Redmond as a more central player then I think it still makes sense to sign 2 wide players after Townsend.
Last season we have benson tella zaroury and JBG, kompany sees JBG as a central player and don’t think churlinov is in the plans.
Benson needs spells of rest so having: tella, benson, Townsend, zaroury and Larsen with Redmond able to play wide to, I don’t think that seems to unrealistic.
But it does also reduce the amount of spaces in other positions for the squad

Which would require some significant sales income to at least partially offset. Given our business model our purchases and who is/isn't getting game time in the friendlies my guesses would be Cullen, Benson and perhaps Muricjedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 3:18 pmYou really do have to question what our budget this summer is...
Total as of now would be approx £54.5... probably looking at another £40mish there, which would leave us at a £94.5m spend...

Cullen not getting game time? He played 90 minutes on Saturday at genk, muric played 90 minutes last night, benson is injuredAfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 8:49 amWhich would require some significant sales income to at least partially offset. Cullen played against Genk. Benson can't play if he's injured.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 8:49 amWhich would require some significant sales income to at least partially offset. A bit tough on Benson that, given he’s supposedly injured?AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 8:49 amWhich would require some significant sales income to at least partially offset. And I’d be astonished if Cullen went. He played vs Genk.
And Muric played last night, so where does that leave him?

Yes though it's been over a year ago now, he did play some decent games especially against Club Brugge where he scored a few amazing goals. He's quick, good dribbler, and really has some gunpowder in his legs. Good free kick taker too.
Not sure if he will be good enough for Burnley though but he surely has potential. If you're low on budget I understand why VK would give him a chance. Although Premier League is a whole different level.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There are still reports that we are still interested in Tella, Maatsen, Tresor, Vrankx, Hamer and Lakonga. Given we may get a couple in on loans amongst let alone signed as permanents we are definitely in danger of having more players than the squad limit unless there is going to be a number of outgoings. McNally and CJ Egan-Riley, Franchi could be loaned out. Weghorst a likely outgoing however no-one seems to be bidding on him, Churlinov another possible outgoing but again is he still ill ? Taylor is attracting interest. Cork may be a possible outgoing if other midfielders are brought in, Jayrod and JBG may be coming to the end of their time at the Turf. Bastien may be another to go out on loan or be sold. Outgoings seem inevitable in the coming weeks if any others are coming in.

We need Cork's experience and game reading ability. If we have a difficult spell then players like him will be essential.LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 9:59 am... Cork may be a possible outgoing if other midfielders are brought in...
I'd keep Cork in the squad if he was just a brain in a jar. His ability to marshall and organise our midfield is way above anybody else in our squad.

Experienced heads and more energy from Townsend and Redmond might have VK thinking he could release Cork.

I’m becoming convinced that Benny has big offers and is funding some of this summer spending. We can’t possibly need so many wide players!!Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 7:30 amhttps://twitter.com/Sky_Marlon89/status ... 7637744640

I doubt it, it will need to be massive money and he struggled to start for a Championship team last season at times so that kind of money is unlikely...I’m becoming convinced that Benny has big offers and is funding some of this summer spending. We can’t possibly need so many wide players!!
We don't have that many wingers anyway!... Any team that wants a strong squad should have at least 4 wingers or two players per position and JGB plays more central these days... Another winger we bought is only 18 so hardly a first-team guaranteed regular and he doesn't even look like a traditional winger anyway...
It's called building a squad!... I know you're not used to it but that's the way it is supposed to be and we have a board and manager who get that!

Can we cut this narrative?... Every team has that policy apart from the likes of Chelsea and Man City, which is to buy low, sell high lol... People are acting like we just invented it...We new what the crack was when VK came ,buy young ,improve ,& sell ,that’s how we survive
In fact, there is far more proof of that working under SD than the current regime. We bought and developed a lot of players under SD that cost peanuts and were sold for multiple millions... We have always done that and that model is what at least 90% of teams are trying to fufil!

What do you mean so many wingers, in January when zaroury goes to AFCON if benson gets injured as things stand we only have Redmond, churlinov and JBG (who doesn’t really play wide anymore)
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Suggestions seemed to be that it was unlikely he would be fit this year.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Why are we so keen to sell our best players? What’s wrong with having the strongest squad possible? The squads we’ve has in previous Premier League seasons have usually had a very obvious strongest 11-15 players with the others being ones where you’d worry if they were in the team. It’d be great to have a squad where we could be happy whoever out of the 25 started.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'm pretty sure that's not the case if anything suspicious was going on you would have heard about murmurs long before now, it wouldn't go completely under the radar if other clubs were interested it would be picked up upon & reported.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Agree 100%.
And you also have to include the fact that we were relegated last season. Almost every club that goes down is bound to lose their star players. Just because we moved most of them last year doesn't mean that we will sell our best performers now. It's not the same situation.
Tavolieri also confirmed that Benson will stay with Burnley this season.
