It does sound familiar but to be fair, what are managers really meant to say. They can’t name specific players they’ve bid for because they’d give away their needs / bargaining position, or alert other clubs to the player and get gazumped. You pretty much have to come out with some generic sounding stuff that Dyche has mastered.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Love Sean but you can’t help but wonder if his style does adversely affect his ability to attract players to improve a team. I always think back to the comments attributed to Ryan Fraser on that topic which said a lot (although, ironically, he’s done the square root of nothing since then and would probably crawl over broken glass to sign for Everton as a first team option now).
The finances at Everton (and previously at Burnley) do need to be considered though. We’ve no idea of the type of situation he has at that club with the massive wage bill strangling their ability to compete I’d imagine.

It does sound familiar, but I don't think anyone should underestimate the issues that Everton have financially
That, plus a bloated squad full of players that aren't worth what they paid and limited room to manoeuvre because of the FFP issues and you can see where he is coming from
They desperately need a premier league ready striker and can't afford it
Look, even the Saudis and the Qataris aren't buying their players - thats how bad a position they are in

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Fair bit of pearl clutching on here and Twitter every time someone takes the **** out of Dyche.
He was fantastic for 90% of his time with us and we should all be grateful, but there’s nothing wrong with the odd joke at the expense of even the most revered folk.
In Shaun’s case you could write the summer media script yourself. You’d have “gaffer’s day” and the inevitable media interviews around that, like he’d reinvented the wheel and then you’d have weeks of “tough market”. Clearly the latter was grounded in reality, but if someone showed me an preseason interview on transfers now, the only clue to separate one summer from the other half dozen would be the training kit he was wearing.
Having said all that, now that we’ve got no local journalists covering Burnley and we’re almost completely reliant on in-house media for regular updates from the manger, I’d probably say take that repetitive script over what we have now.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
What Dyche should have said it he is expecting 6 or 7 to sign this week all for decent fees, then your modern day twitter and forum fan can get all giddy with who it might be while they are unable to accept that it won't be happening.
It was bad enough when he was here to even think of over promising in transfer windows, think back to the nonsense posted through each one by the same people, now imagine him over promising to the most toxic fan base in the country, trying hard to work out why he didn't do it here and certainly won't do it there.
There is some irony though by those who were / are bored of him listening to his every word then discussing it.

Everton are in a very sensitive situation. Their recently posted latest accounts showed another huge loss, plus we know some of their players are on massive wages. They will not find this window easy, and seem quite happy to offload some players too

I know we were talking about Sheffield yesterday, but wow I did not realise how bad there situation is.
Mcburnie is their only striker. They haven’t replaced their three loaned players and they have just lost their best player.
There fans reckon they could be on the end of a horrendous season.
Luton and Sheffield look dead certs with everyone else fighting it out to avoid the last spot

Yunus Musah, his name came up a long way back, is moving from Valencia to AC Milan.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Naturally we all hope this is the case, but it doesn’t pay to be so brash about others teams failings when we’ve not even kicked off the season yet. Sheff Utd had already run away with the league last season in September. Thankfully they were kind enough to bring it back by October.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:07 amI know we were talking about Sheffield yesterday, but wow I did not realise how bad there situation is.

Sheff Utd’s squad does look weak but they have signed a few lesser known players. Luton have done some smart business actually for a club of their size in the PL and they won’t be push overs.
Let’s calm it down a bit and wait to see how it pans out. There’s no need to make such bold statements.

Tbf the comment is more about the strength of the other teams rather than their weakness. I just can’t see which other three teams are worse than them. For example i see our squad light years ahead of there’s based on current squadsksrclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:19 amNaturally we all hope this is the case, but it doesn’t pay to be so brash about others teams failings when we’ve not even kicked off the season yet. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I mean the thread is clearly about Burnley's transfer window, I appreciate the post and the discussion it can create and I also dislike "Dyche bashing" - but let's try and keep the thread on topic. We're not posting Man United signings and comments in here are we? That's my point, let's try and keep this as Burnley related as we can.

Man Uniteds new signing was discussed yesterday as was Sheffields player going to marseille
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don't think the issue is his style, it is more likely his lack of knowledge of the game. He has always said when he goes home, he doesn't watch, read or have any interest in football.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:31 amLove Sean but you can’t help but wonder if his style does adversely affect his ability to attract players to improve a team. AlanP said last week that Kompany contacts and knowledge of the mame have been critical in attracting players to the club. Sean doesn't have that, because his interest is only in being a good manager, not in enjoying football. That probably is ok to get the most out of an existing group of players, but not when it comes to changing the squad.

Doesn’t really apply in the way the poster used it tbh but the above is what it means according to the Cambridge dictionary

I wouldn’t have Luton as dead certs to go down tbh - they have nothing to lose, a bit of a siege mentality and have made some canny signings.

Just seen Luton were linked with Tom Heaton and he sounds interested.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
People always write off teams like Luton when they get to the PL.
The same thing was said about Blackpool, Hull, Wigan and us when we first got to the PL and although us and Blackpool did end up going down it took exceptional circumstances in our case and Blackpool very nearly survived. I think Luton will go down but they could very easily stay up and certainly don’t think they’ll be cut adrift.

We always have to find teams to end up below us. That has to be Sheff Utd, Luton plus one more.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 10:45 amPeople always write off teams like Luton when they get to the PL.

Surprising we’re only loaning the likes of McNally and Peacock-Farrell.
Is that with the intention of them hopefully impressing and us getting a higher fee in a years time like we just did with Bobby Thomas?

That's a pity. Really hoping we could have used McNally in deal for Hamer or Flemming.

Stoke and Birmingham are my to dark horses this season. I think it’s likely two of the three relegated teams will bounce straight back. But that last spot I have a sneaky suspicion Stoke could be one of them.
There signings this summer have been strong:
Chiquinho
Hoever
Travers
Pearson
Enda Stephens
Daniel Johnson
Ryan Mmaee
Add McNally to that and that’s a pretty decent window for them.

McNally to Stoke is definitely news to me. Not seen that before.
It’s a shame in a way because I still think his greatest value to us might have been as an inclusion in another deal for someone like Hamer.

Really weird frankly as there is no indication whatsoever that he’s coming back to Burnley, especially judging by RVClaret’d quotes further up from Russell Martin. I love Tella and would be over the moon to have him back personally but this stuff is getting really bizarre.
