Personally not devestated that we haven't broken the bank to sign Maatsen - he was fantastic for us, but his biggest strenght was often going forward and next year we're far more likely to be on the back foot. He'll do really well for Chelsea/team that has the ball a lot more.

Maatsen told the club he didn't appreciate the Tella video and unfollowed the club.

100% true. He was appalled by it and personally rang Southampton to suggest they don’t do business with us. He’s also told Ms Pace that he will personally try and scupper any future transfer deal for any player. I think he’s over reacting personally but then again, so blatant and heinous was the video, at the same time, I’m surprised we’ve not had our premier league share rescinded.

I have never seen Hartman play before but from the obligatory YouTube videos he looks like Maatsens replacement.
Looks a really talented footballer. Only thing I have noted is he bloody loves a strong tackle, not sure how well that will go down in the prem haha

Charlie Taylor loves a tackle too and Maatsens Achillies was his defensive duties. If it's true and he reacted to some nonsense video so be it and he's staying as a bench warmer at Chelsea rather than returning to become part of another great season at the Turf
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Maybe you should pass that on to Pace and VKNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 10:37 amI have never seen Hartman play before but from the obligatory YouTube videos he looks like Maatsens replacement.

Southampton have put a training video up. Heavily features Tella laughing and loving it.

I love the ambition with the 2 full back links in a Boey and Hartman but both will be quite pricey you’d imagine

Perhaps they've worked out that IM is a very good footballer, especially going forward, but defensively he's not quite so clever.

Finally a left back linked. Badly needed as Taylor is suitable back up but we need someone who’s better on the ball to be first choice.
Centre midfield needs addressing still but the squad is starting to look really quite special.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Basically, Taylor excellent defender and certainly PL standard, but far from exciting in the opposition half, Maatsen excellent going forward, but less convincing defending. So someone who looks comfortable doing both would be ideal. and why I wouldn't breaking our relatively small piggy bank for Maatsen if Chelsea are playing hard ball or trying to have our trousers down!

Like the sound of Hartman, anyone with Quilindschy as a name can't be bad.

Agree re Taylor. Been a bit perplexed people have considered Taylor as a starter for us, when it's glaringly obvious he isn't the sort of left back Kompany wants. He himself has spoken about Taylor's skillset being more suited to a centre half.

Charlie Taylor; were he to turn into a rampaging version of Trent A-A, assisting in and scoring wonderous goals would soon be savaged on here for his lack of defending

Just read that Chelsea are expected to let Lewis Hall go out on loan this summer. Wonder if the fact we need a left back and Chelsea, having seen what we’ve done with their other left back, could see us as a good destination.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Not sure this is all the link says
“ Burnley are ready to pay over €20m for Feyenoord defender Quilindschy Hartman, who are eyeing him as a replacement for Ian Maatsen
Feyenoord do not intend to let one of their key players go easily. They value him at more than €20m this summer, and they feel it’s ‘impossible’ for them enter talks for a figure lower than that amount.
That’s not a problem for Burnley, though, who already had that figure in mind and thus would be willing to pay it if required.”
