Watched the 2nd half and I can't say he stood out at all. Just played simple passes from what I saw.
A bit like Roberts on his quiet days.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I only saw the last 15mins but noticed he played very narrow when they were defending and he had good pace and athleticism. Made one excellent long run to support his striker, who then chose to have a pop instead of laying it inside for him. Far to short a viewing to give anything definitive but I can understand why the club could be interested.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 9:33 pmWatched the 2nd half and I can't say he stood out at all. The smell of fresh ink is in the air as Burnley reaches a full agreement with Arsenal for the loan signing of the exciting talent, Albert Sambi Lokonga."
just hope they’ve not mistaken the smell of fresh ink with the smell of dry powder

Reliable Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has also reported that a meeting between all parties took place at Burnley’s headquarters and talks progressed well.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Someone on here suggested that Tresor might want to wait to see whether he would be playing Champions League football this season before making any decisions regarding a move. You'd think Genk's elimination from the Champions League qualifiers could only help our pursuit of Tresor if we are interested. Tresor might be more motivated to find a move and Genk might be more inclined to sell to make up for income lost by failure to qualify.
This is assuming that we are interested. Things have gone quiet aside from some reports of interest around the time of our friendly with them.

We are close to signing Lokonga and Townsend and allegedly bid for 2 full backs. How is that quiet?

In my experience the number of posts on this thread definitely doesn’t correspond with the amount of transfer business BFC are actually conducting

We should probably have a page worth of falling out now about how quiet it has to be before it’s deemed quiet if we’re going to remain on topicdermotdermot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 11:56 amOnly seven posts on this thread today and it’s nearly midday. I call that quiet.

Pochettino on Maatsen (BBC website):
"To prove that point, Pochettino highlighted that they had four possible left-backs in their squad, with Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella, Lewis Hall and Maatsen all able to play that position.
The competition has not stopped Maatsen taking his chance to impress Pochettino.
The 21-year-old was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Year last season as he helped Burnley win the title and promotion back to the Premier League.
He has played as an attacking left-winger, as a number 10 and he also scored two goals in the opening game against Wrexham and assisted Jackson against Newcastle.
"He has the capacity to compete for different places on the pitch. He is a player you can use in different positions," Pochettino said.
"I am so happy because his performance didn't change. That is what makes us really pleased because he is a player we see with enormous potential for the team."
Looks pretty definitive, sadly.

Chelsea now have an excellent manager with a reputation for developing and trusting youth players, so I think we can move on from him now, as he's clearly looking to stay and fight for a place.

Shame but Maatsens defending was always going to be a question mark for us at this level- we don't enjoy Chelsea's luxury of being able to afford a less reliable defender in that regard.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I’m hoping Gomez is still a possibility. Played under VK and with Cullen and Lokonga at Anderlecht and is quick and comfortable on the ball (displayed by the fact he can play midfield).

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
City signing Gvardiol, mainly a centre back but also comfortable at left back, should mean even less chance of game time for Gomez. Agree it’s one that makes a lot of sense if we can convince him to come.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 1:49 pmI’m hoping Gomez is still a possibility. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Maatsen was played in a more advanced role because of his defending. Either that or play as a wing back. This is of course assuming he even gets in to their starting 11!spt_claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 1:27 pmShame but Maatsens defending was always going to be a question mark for us at this level- we don't enjoy Chelsea's luxury of being able to afford a less reliable defender in that regard.

Gomez played left and right wing for Spain in u21s euros, at the moment city probs need him as a winger until they bring someone else in

Newcastle have just agreed a 40m fee for Livramento.
Think it’s pretty safe to say Tella won’t be coming here unless it’s a spectacular offer.
Southampton will be pulling in over 100m in sales this summer

Could easily get to 140m. 20 already I think, Livramento 40, JWP 30-35, Lavia 50-60.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 3:41 pmNewcastle have just agreed a 40m fee for Livramento.

Well, we don't know how much money Southampton need, and we don't know if they definitely want him
We are not privy to their finances at all, and they weren't exactly one of the wealthiest teams in the division, and had an absolute cracker of a terrible season financially last time out
I still think that Martin will want to build his own team, and it remains to be seen whether that includes Tella or not

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Livramento's sale is interesting.
It seems he cost The Saints £5 million from Chelsea but they had both a buy back price and sell on clause. The latter looks to be 50%. Looking at Wiki he only played two games at the end of last season because of an ACL injury. If all true, Southampton will make a profit of £15 million after two years.
I guess this is the sort of strategy we are employing.

Don't think it's safe to say that at all. Only taken in €15 million so far against a net loss of £125 million last season. West Ham say they won't meet the asking price for Ward-Prowse. Still all to play for imo.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 3:41 pmNewcastle have just agreed a 40m fee for Livramento.Think it’s pretty safe to say Tella won’t be coming here unless it’s a spectacular offer.

Understand Ajax rate Daramy highly but Burnley pushing as Kompany considers him a top target.
