Apologies if already posted but couldn't find a link on here to the Weghorst rumour.

So here it is.

Rome, Weghorst the new name for the attack: loan hypothesis from Burnley
let's hope we can get a high loan fee with an obligation to buy or an outright sale. Pretty clear he's never going to appease some people despite him doing nothing wrong.

Thinking about the 25-man squad, here's all the players I can think of over age 21 as the squad stands (because U21s don't take up squad places I don't think). Can anyone see if I've missed anyone?

Muric
Vigoroux
Roberts
Ameen
O'Shea
Beyer
Ekdal
Taylor
Vitinho
Cullen
Cork
Bastien
Brownhill
Twine
JBG
Benny
Zaroury
Redmond
Amdouni
Larsen
Obafemi
Churlinov
Foster
Jay
Wout

25 bang on. Any incomings over 21yo will require someone moving on, or perhaps as I said above Obefemi and Churlinov don't make the first half season squad because of injury. Maybe Wout and Bastien are replaced like-for-like, and maybe if we bring in a LB Taylor goes (will miss him, amazing servant for us). So with all that in mind, assuming Wout, Bastien and Taylor are replaced like-for-like by over 21's, and assuming Obafemi and Churlinov aren't named, we're at 23 over 21's (with the home grown quota easily met). Add Townsend to that and we're at 24. We've got wiggle room for 1 more over 21. After that the only way we make signings is by getting people out the door.
I can see Wout, Churlinov and Bastien going or being left out if we get Lokonga, Daramy and a LB but can't see any more incoming.

A bigger quandary is the 8 home grown players who I think have to be three years with English or Welsh club before 21

My brother drunk last night, has bet me that R.Lukaku is going to end up a BFC player this season because his Juventus deal
has gone south.

Is it morally wrong to take the bet considering how drunk he must’ve been?

Is it about appeasing people? He only has to satisfy the manager by offering what is needed.

I think we can count 10 or 11 if Townsend signs
Taylor Roberts Redmond Townsend Cork Brownhill Cullen Obefami O’Shea Twine and Jay
Amazing turnaround since the end of 2021-22 season when I doubt we could have found 5 who didn’t qualify

Al-dakhil doesn’t need to be registered in the 25

Tell you what our recruitment is several levels up from the previous regimes who appear to be acting the exact same way at Everton as they did with us, ie target old pro’s and struggle to get anything over the line.

Nixon reporting we are pushing on for Ramsey with a £12m offer. Villa might accept but want to include a fixed buy back amount in the deal.

Er, here's something interesting: Maatsen's birthday falls after Jan 1st 2002. He's considered an under 21 under PL rules.

pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease. Oh my god it's the hope that kills you.
Not sure I understand your logic here.
Surely Maatsen being considered under 21 makes it more likely - not less - that Chelsea will have him involved with the PL squad?
They won't have to make the decision of who to leave out in order to include him.

Seems really cheap that, would be very happy with it on the evidence of what I saw for Boro.

As long as the buy back still allows a large profit (ala Trafford) then I think these are still very good deals for us.

I have a couple of questions I’m sure one of you will know.

1. What is the highest amount Burnley have payed for a player?
2. Who was it?

TIA.

If we trust the figures stated then it's Zeki Amdouni for £15.5m after Euro conversion I think.

Over the last 7 days we have been linked to five or six players any of which would be fabulous signings for us.

Hopefully news on a couple of them soon. 🤞🏻

Is he not making the point that due to the size of our squad already, signing Maatsen who wouldn’t need to be registered due to his age, would take up squad space.

Just like Ramsey at Villa if we signed him wouldn’t need to be registered either

That's my point exactly.
Chelsea have a huge squad of players, but won't need to register him, so if they think he is good enough to play PL they can have him as part of their squad but not taking up squad place.
In that regard he is very useful to Chelsea. (I think!)

Does Lokonga sign today? Surely it must be very close given the recent press reports.

I wonder what the hold up is with Townsend? Maybe interest from other clubs?

Yeah they might to, but I don’t think he was ever referring to Chelsea needing to sell him for squad space though, he was just referring to him not needing to be registered which benefits us due to the size of our squad.

Both parties keeping their options open until the eleventh hour. AT looking for a longer contract, BFC still trawling the market for younger players.

If we sign Lokonga I'd be surprised if we go for Ramsey. Think the Ramsey story has likely been released to get the Lokonga deal over the line. But may well be wrong.

Wouldn't be surprised to see another signing completely out of the blue (a la O'Shea, Koleosho, Amdouni) over the next week or so. We've been linked with a few wingers over the past week or two. Potentially a smokescreen for someone else.

Ramsey and Lokonga are completely different players. One plays deeper, receiving the ball in tight areas and progressing the ball (Lokonga) and one plays in advanced areas linking play (Ramsey). Ramsey is also quite small compared to Lokonga and would not have the physicality for playing in a 2 man midfield.

And as we’ve seen with the Lavia deal, the buy back clauses only kick in after a certain time. Lavia’s is 2024 meaning Soton can get more for him this summer than City could buy him back for next year.

Fair enough. May be wrong with that one then. Just seemed to fit the general pattern of links over the window.

Big difference between u21 euros (and having one of the strongest squads) and Prem isn’t there. You are quite a big advocate of how the physical the Prem is.

I have difficulty understanding our transfer tactics regarding so called smoke screens.

I can understand we have say several acceptable priorities for each position and therefore can have several negotiations going on at the same time , but why waste time on so called smoke screens we have no interest in signing. Surely that just wastes everybody’s time. Although I agree it does look like we have wasted a lot of time on players we don’t really want to sign at times, excluding the agent led non stories.

Very true, but I would also say Cullen is quite lightweight for this league. So right now I wouldn’t rule anything out, VK might want to try something different

I am concerned about how a very physical press will cause us issues with our possession football and playing from the back

It was however very pleasing that we managed to play through both Benficas and Real Betis press, but its still going to be a challenge

I know I keep mentioning England u21s

But they used tricky (typical attacking midfielders, Ramseys brother and Gomes) in a deep role as their close control was able and dribbling ability was able to beat the press.

There’s a breakdown of this tactic online somewhere, it was very interesting to watch. I do wonder if VK has maybe picked something up from the England u21s

Palace looking to sign Lewis Hall on loan from Chelsea.

Thought that might be one we’d be keen on.

I don't think any deal for Ramsey has any bearing on Lokonga, they look totally different players. Ramsey played very advanced for Boro and seemed to play just behind Archer alongside Akpom, or drifting in off the left. Possibly seen as the long term replacement for Gudmundsson or even Brownhill as the most advanced of a midfield three (with the deeper two being Cullen and Lokonga). Who knows.

I don't think we play the smokescreen game at all. Instead we identity multiple player for a position, then progress all of them at once. If multiple offers get accepted, then we have a decision to make. Very smart business.

Passing on some info, might be considered interesting or relevant to some. Might not qualify as a ‘rumour’ though.

Just bumped into THB and had a good chat.

He's (yesterday) signed a year extension at City.

Would love to come back, genuinely, was glowing about VK / Burnley. Burnley were never in for him to sign perm due to the price City quoted, and VK was straight about that to THB early on after the season.

Also said last season was amazingly enjoyable as the team expected to ‘smash’ every team once they got going.

Nothing to suggest VK will move on him, but the extension does, from City's perspective, open up loan possibilities, and he’d jump at it.

If fit I would expect Cullen to start all 38 league games this season

Nice bit of information, I don’t think we would use one of our 2 prem loans on another CB when we already have 4 who are fighting it out already to start

I’d have loved Harwood-Bellis back, but I’ve posted a few times now that I’ve been really impressed with O’Shea doing that job of playing RCB tasked with playing passes into midfield in the last two friendly games. I hope he starts the season there.

With the prices flying around from the likes of Southampton at the minute. I'm not sure our owners will want loan players after last season.

We increased our loan players value massively. The owners will want our own players value going up like that.

I don’t see Cullen as lightweight at all. He’s small perhaps but last season up against some big athletes he was surprisingly strong and I can’t recall him ever being out muscled.

Livramento off to Newcastle, £32m rising to £40m. What will or could it mean for trippier, would we want him back, you'd expect Livramento to jump ahead of him as 1st choice.

Hasn’t Howe already said they are lining up for Left back?
