Correct, he can play left central and right.

No he’s not, we’ve still be in for tella after signing Redmond, Redmond played most his career from the left and I think kompany sees Redmond more as a 10 at this stage of his career

I have never seen Buchanan play so I won’t profess to speak with authority here - but his goal record in Belgium does not scream ‘Tella alternative’.

Sorry but could you please help me with this number situation. Think 10 is probably like an old fashioned schemer; the false 9 I'm still not up to speed with but then you refer to someone playing 'as a six'. Not too sure what this means. One of the best,if not the best '6' for us that I saw play was Brian Miller but I suspect our ages and experience of watching football are poles apart.Anthonini wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 6:35 pmYou need Cullen to bring balance in the team. He's a very unselfish guy that does his job well. He's also a good match up with Lokonga who needs a fella like him by his side, maybe in the future he could play the Guardiola role as a pivot when he gets used to the PL and bulks up a bit. At Anderlecht Kompany played Sambi as a 6, but Belgian league is a totally different level.
Edit. Also meant to say I agree entirely with your comments regarding Josh Cullen.

I think he sees him as a right back.Anthonini wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 6:40 pmHe played there one game against Aarhus. Maybe Kompany sees a right back in him. Could also be a possibility. He got Gomez who played central midfield and right wing positions before and turned him into an awesome LB, so it wouldn't be the first time he pulled something like that.
To be clear Buchanan mostly played as an attacking winger on the right.
Noticed in his last 30 games this lad has played at right back. I just can’t see him coming in at right wing with the players we already have there

Random and tenuous link and Newcastle not only tells the resident Belgium football fan where the Belgian league player usually plays, but he goes into the mind of Vince Kompany.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:39 pmI think he sees him as a right back.

Just makes sense, the player started out at right wing but clearly his current manager sees him more as a right back given most of his recent games he’s played in that position.
VK very well may see him as a right winger but I would find that very very strange given we have numerous players than play there

Wing back at best if not right winger, but there’s nothing to suggest he has played right back of a back 4Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:45 pmHaha not at all.

Ive never seen him play so I couldn't comment on which position I think he plays most regularly but I looked at the Club Brugge line up for a few random games last season and he played RB (in a back 4), LB ( in a back 4), RWB and as a wide forward on both sides.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:02 pmWing back at best if not right winger, but there’s nothing to suggest he has played right back of a back 4

A 6 is a player like Kante or Ndidi or makelele. Guardiola Busquets Roy Keane... Lokonga could fulfill that role too near the end of his career if he gets physically stronger. For now Cullen is the best option for that type of position or they would both do it together against stronger teams.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Could very well be. As someone noticed his stats are not up to Burnley standard, he could be a good option as a right back too if he sees himself developing in that role. I don't see us starting the season with Vitinho there. Kompany loves skillful attacking players at the backs. I do think he fits in the selection skillwise. Has an unpredictability in his style of play, can take out a player with a dribble. Good runs.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:39 pmI think he sees him as a right back.

I thought Robbie Brady played left back for Preston last year?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Bit of rotation. Fernandez played 31 times at left wing back. Brady either didn’t play or started on the right on those occasions. Brady played just 18 times at left wing back across the season.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:54 pmI thought Robbie Brady played left back for Preston last year?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I know two PNE season ticket holders and they said he got better and better for them, but was certainly better going forward than defending. Have to bare in mind that Preston were an absolutely rank horrible team that played negative football and offered nothing going forward - he would excel in our side comparatively. He came off the bench for them at Deepdale in our 1-1 draw and was their biggest (only) threat the entire game down the left.
I just hope it permanent, we need to be getting players like him in on the same sort of basis as Trafford.

It’s all become pointless now speculating until we have the signing announcements from the club and CT.

Very very good player going forwards, i suspect he may be found out the other way. Very much like Leroy Sane style of play, very explosive and great close control, and just fizzes balls low across the balls hoping there's someone there on the endNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 10:01 pmBurnley are after Buchanan from Brugge

Posted on Tella thread but possibly should be on here really.
In the post match Tella was asked if Southampton fans can be excited for him to stay. I’m paraphrasing but he said something like “Take it game by game, and we’ll see what happens”. Clearly not a certainty he’s staying from his perspective anyway.

Let people enjoy the ride and speculate, half of the fun in it is checking out these players that we’ve never heard of before in some instances .
A polar opposite of a few years ago , it’s different and it’s more exciting …..for some

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The main thing relevant to the Tella situation is wages. We would improve those significantly.
The highest figure I can see on the various websites is about £19k per week. After tax that’s about half a mill per year, and he is already 23. They stay down, that’s not great from his perspective.
I thus see him being desperate to come, on both a football, style and financial basis, but Saints are like Spurs with Levy, really tough to deal with.

Fernandez was ok at PNE (live in Preston, surrounded by PNE fans day to day) but still considered a bit lightweight. I think we can do better personally.
