Greek journo reporting we’ve had a 17m euros offer rejected for Levi Garcia from AEK Athens

Load up early. Stay up. Bit like Forest but more controlled / better prices in.
Spread payments but offload a sale or too Jan and end of season of the big successes (unfort).
If Benny smashes it that will be £30m plus as an example.
Can’t leave it too long. See Wolves. Will be hard for them this year.
Reckon that’s the strategy.

Some people are going to be in for a shock when we regularly start getting in fees of £20 million + for players

I think it's more likely that by January VK will know which players are less likely to feature or be in his plans and we sell those, rather than any "Golden Geese"GrahamBranchsPerm wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 11:11 amLoad up early. Stay up. Bit like Forest but more controlled / better prices in.

Daramy would have to be registered in the squad due to being a loan signing

I am generally a very risk averse person but the security here is the age/profile of who we’re signing. If the worst was to occur we’d likely have a very valuable team based on potential alone. When you consider our last relegation we made around £70m from sales despite the comparative age of the squad, it feels a good strategy to me.GrahamBranchsPerm wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 11:18 amLiquidity from debt brings both risk and reward. Ramsey getting injured could have cost Boro the play-offs. He was playing excellent before then. Made his debut on Feb15th and in 11 games scored 5 + assists

More on Daramy from Fabrizio Romano...
◉ Fee discussed verbally: €15.5m plus €2m add-ons plus 10% sell-on clause.
◉ Ajax & Burnley waiting for player’s decision and final steps, not done yet.
◉ It’s a permanent transfer — just with different structure due to Financial Fair Play.

I agree with this. My only concern is due to the amount of players in the squad that could all be classed as starters, the you would presume rotation will mean less exposure, where as those we sold on relegation were playing pretty much every game as we had no depth in the squad, so maximum exposure.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 11:23 amI am generally a very risk averse person but the security here is the age/profile of who we’re signing. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
So we could be looking at Ramsey, Daramy, Lokonga, Hartman/Fernandez and another striker and CH. That's mad with the numbers we already have. Definitely going to be a few going out on loan or transferred.
No doubt someone on here will complain about a lack of signings but it's an interesting window, hardly a day goes by without something knew. Obviously down to our scattergun approach

That would be great if true as Jacob Ramsey looks a real talent.

Burnley reach agreement with Ajax for left winger Mohamed Daramy. Proposed deal a loan + obligation worth ~€15m + bonuses + sell-on. [David Ornstein]

Don’t understand when people say ‘why are spending 15m on Daramy when we could just get tella’ it’s clear that kompany and the club think Daramy has more sell on value being 21 than tella does being 24

Exactly. The club will know that for the mooted £20m we can sign a better player than Tella. I get that he had a good season with us and he seems like a great lad but the obsession with him is a bit OTT.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 1:02 pmOr they just think he’s a better player? Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Southampton are obviously in a good financial position so they're not budging on prices for their top players.
Makes sense to get the young players in quickly so they can gel. Pay for them over 3/4 years while getting some income from the odd sale. FFP is a game and we are playing it for the first time.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The difference of course is that we are having to significantly strengthen this summer due to the significant weakening we went through last summer. But I agree with your point about splitting the transfer cost over the next few seasons as if things go to plan then we won’t need to improve the squad to anything like this degree over the next few summers - so the spending now is essentially for the next few seasons, not just this one.Ziggy Stardust wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 1:15 pmSouthampton are obviously in a good financial position so they're not budging on prices for their top players.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I know that LW/RW doesn't matter too much when you're thinking about how to deploy a winger because you can have them swapped around doing things, but strictly speaking, even though he's a right footer, Daramy has played left wing, not right, like where Tella plays, so maybe Daramy is competition for Zaroury? Odobert (if he's considered to be near the first team) plays RW mainly, so maybe he's the one to replace Tella when Benny isn't playing?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Think it’s more a case of we can defer paying for Daramy to next summer by making it a loan with an obligation unlike Tella.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 12:57 pmDon’t understand when people say ‘why are spending 15m on Daramy when we could just get tella’ it’s clear that kompany and the club think Daramy has more sell on value being 21 than tella does being 24

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Southampton will be under huge pressure to go up. Know they won last night but theres 6 or 7 very good teams in the PL, and they wont be as dominant as we were. There will be times when their manager Matin comes under pressure-until now he has always been a mid table manager in the Championship despite his footballing style. That wont be enough for the new owners. Be interesting to see who goes this window-suspect 4 or 5 of their better players will leave

All those who keep going on about wingers.
We’ve a 12 man bench with one natural winger in it today. Only Benson who would play there missing. That’s why we are still after more.

Foster could well come good and I'm backing him to improve, his recent public comments about his mental health suggest to me he's in a better place now so hopefully steps up. But he is still very much an unknown quantity, especially at PL level, and while it is 100% understandable in hindsight, he struggled last season a tier lower. I'm backing him but we need an alternative.
Jay is past it for the Prem, no amount of Claret tinted specs can disguise that.
Obafemi is out for a long time and also not really a centre forward/number 9/false 9.
Amdouni seems more of a deep forward/atatcking mid/'number 10'.
I know Weghorst is persona non grata with a lot of fans and his goal record in the PL hasn't been great, but his career prior to that has excellent pedigree and his playstyle and attributes suggest to me he could do everything Barnes did for us last season, but better- he IS a better player than Barnes no matter the difference in their contributions to Burnley's success.
Be a shame to see him go. But looks certain.

I've written a few times on here in the last week or so how bemusing I find the fuss people are making about the amount of wingers we've been linked to. We absolutely need more depth in those positions. Not surprised whatsoever we seem very keen to bring in more options.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 1:46 pmAll those who keep going on about wingers.
