Give it a rest mateNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 5:59 pmIn our squad we have:
Benson, Zaroury, Larsen, Gudmundsson (played nearly his whole career there and the second half today), Redmond, Koleoshi, Costelloe.
We then have the following players that have played on the wing (some of them as recent as last season)
Foster, Amdouni, Twine,
So that’s ten players in our squad of 25 that have played on the wing or currently play on the wing.
But we currently have 1 player that plays left back and 3 that play CM.
I’m not sure how you can say we are not currently unbalanced

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Ok so we have 4 ‘out and out wingers’10 +that can play that position, probably 6 that can play there to a half decent standard…
Now let’s look at left back and centre mid with 6 days to go till the first game.
One recognised left back that ‘isn’t a system fit’
Three recognised centre midfielders (not including Bastien), one of which is 34, ones injured and one isn’t particularly good in the 6 role.
Sounds like an unbalanced squad to me

Better than Burnley FC's Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season Josh Cullen?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 5:31 pmWe are about to go in to a premier league season with our best CM being a 34 year old Jack cork
I agree we need to bolster centre mid, but you give the impression that we're going into the Prem with just an ageing Jack Cork. I think you're overlooking the dynamsim that came from midfield last season, without Jack Cork for large parts.
I think Jack Cork is ace by the way.

There will surely be a number of departures as well just before the window closes

Don’t see Amdouni or twine playing out wide at all.
Wingers under contract at the moment
Zaroury
Benson - injury record not great and plays 60min at most of top quality football then needs to be replaced
Redmond
Larsen
Koleosho - 18 year old can’t expect to count on him every week
Costelloe - he will leave on loan
JBG - who probably won’t play wide all season
There’s 100% space for 2 more wingers if not 3 wingers still, one who scored 19 last season and can play central to

A good post. It blows my mind that people are considering Twine, Gudmundsson, Costelloe and Vitinho as wingers. If they play ninety minutes in total combined as wingers over the season then I'll donate a couple of quid to somewhere.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 6:14 pmDon’t see Amdouni or twine playing out wide at all.

If we stick to using Vitinho as a full back, he will only get better, the fact he plays so many different positions doesn’t help

All the rest were in early doors - not to mention there’s 8 less games in the PL season.

Aye sorry, Benson came in after Huddersfield and came on against Luton.
Still had the core lot in - worth mentioning as well that the season started unbelievably early last season. A good three weeks before our season this year

Benson
Tella
Churlinov
Zaroury
Beyer
Dervisoglu
So four out of the six were huge players in the rest of the season.
I'd have liked signings in CM and LB earlier because at present we are very unbalanced, but players do integrate very well even after signing later on.

They can do yeah, but they were slowly integrated and it famously took a good 10 weeks to properly get everyone up to speed.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 6:36 pmWe signed 6 players after the start of last season. They were:

We did marvellously well getting a few results together early season with Cork/Cullen/THB/Taylor/Muric then a bit of a motley crue.
We don’t have that same luxury in the PL. 10 weeks to settle and you’re really struggling

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Last season, there was barely a spare week to work on things in training. So many midweek games hindered that.
The City game could see us spending £200 Million and have all the players in by now and still get humped 4-0. The spare week after that gives the manager a real chance to integrate and plan for the real start to the season.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Tella signed just after Luton as well as his debut was against Watford away - just the third game in, which was on the 12th of August.
Again a big point no one is touching on is the amount of games - so important to get off to a good start in the Prem with just 38 games to play.
Can’t say you’re all not a bit concerned that we don’t have a left back that can effectively play the system and very thin in the middle of the park

Every team in the PL plays 38 games, how does the fact we played 8 more in the Championship have any bearing on our league position this season. Sorry but I can't make any sense of what you are saying.
The management team are handsomely paid to tackle the issues you are thinking about, sit back and let them get on with it IMO....

Gudmondsson isn't a winger is definitely an easier statement to defend on days when he hasn't played on the wing, I reckon.

The point is our squad is nowhere near complete and we have a system that famously takes a while to fully get to grips with, meaning that we’re playing catch-up from the off, rather than having bodies in early.Claretnick wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 7:06 pmI must be thick because I don't understand your point.

You don’t want to fall behind in the Prem - 10 games to properly gel is over 1/4 of the season.
The management team are paid handsomely at every club - can I not raise discussion about it?

It’s really simple
Would you prefer to have a settled squad now or in another week or two- which would be more beneficial for our chances this season?
& yes, I appreciate that it doesn’t work like that but again when we’re chucking 14-19 mill on an untested young goal keeper I think we’re being far too clever.
