Interesting both us and Sheff Utd were linked with Souza, a midfielder over the weekend. Now we're being linked with Sheff Utd's midfielder. It would seem that maybe something is afoot.

Sheff Utd messageboard yesterday (poster saying it's happening this week a day prior to this hitting the press, maybe an ITK?):

Excellent and powerful box to box player, as suggested by yours truly some months ago
Glad people seem more enthousiast today
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
FFP for signings is based on amortisation in the books.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:27 pmMy understanding is it is based on committed outlay (so delayed payments through a loan to buy wouldn’t affect it?)
I’m sure Chester can elaborate
The way amortisation works for players is the entire fee (let’s say £10m) is spread over the contract length (let’s say 4 years).
10 / 5 = 2
So, 2 is the figure (in this one transfer) that actually goes towards the FFP, along with the wage bill of course.

I’m a bit iffy on Berge. On his day he is excellent but I’ve seen him have far too many days where he appears disinterested. Maybe a new home would get the best out of him.

Perfect for us, my only concern being this would alert other clubs who could come in for him and push up the price, but maybe prize him away. Hope its advanced, though you would think if so, he would not have started this weekend

Interesting that the reaction is actually a bit mixed. Obviously they all rate him highly and are p!ssed it’s us, but most recognise that there’s a business side to this and £12m now may be better than nowt next year if it helps them with other bits of the team. Especially given he doesn’t seem keen on signing a new deal.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:56 pmSheff Utd messageboard yesterday (poster saying it's happening this week a day prior to this hitting the press, maybe an ITK?):

He’d be absolutely ideal for us.
So would lokonga mind, and this brazilian also looks bang on. I trust the club will secure us a strong new starting centre midfielder.

I'm not as big of a fan as some of you are. I think he dwells on the ball a little too much and can sometimes get caught out. Obviously has talent. I'm also surprised United are even giving the deal the time of day. I'd be fuming if one of our better players could be off to a direct rival, especially after losing N'Diaye.

You have got to think that 12m is on very favourable terms. Perhaps all up front.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 1:08 pmI'm not as big of a fan as some of you are. I can’t see why Sheffield would accept otherwise
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Maybe we can sign Berge and agree to pull out of the Souza transfer leaving the field clear for them.
As regards Hamer. I think if we were serious about we would have used Thomas or McNally in a deal, which is why I think it won't happen.

Can't believe how many "half-empty" readers we have on this Board. We hear the possibility of Berge being signed, perfect midfielder for us. Strong, combative and athletic in midfield-would walk straight into our team and absolutely compliment playing with Cullen. Played in the premier Belgian league for 3 years, numerous times for Norway.

Surprised we've gone back in for Berge, must have had some encouragement. Good player.

Deal very close, medical could happen as soon as today says Romano!

Agree with you on this. For somebody tall and powerfully built he doesn't seem to put himself about alot.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 1:00 pmI’m a bit iffy on Berge. He's a very good player, slightly inconsistent but I think he'd be a great fit for uswarksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 1:17 pmCan't believe how many "half-empty" readers we have on this Board. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There’s a few mis profilings of Berge that get made though. He’s not this big enforcer that sits next to Cullen. He’s at his best box to box as an advanced 8 type. So he’d play in front of Cullen in our system generally.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He has, but they quite often don't move quick enough.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think Berge could be the ideal midfield signing actually because he could just as easily play as a double pivot alongside Cullen and then advance as an attacking 8. I can see him allowing our set up to be really flexible.
I do agree with the reservations though that for all the times he's looked like their best player, he can as often appear a little lazy and disinterested when I've watched Sheff Utd last season. I am comforted though that VK will know all about him from the time he spent at Genk.
Overall, an exciting signing I would say and a hugely welcome addition to the midfield area.

Would be an unbelievable signing on many levels. Exactly what we need, relatively young, Premier League experience and weakens a rival.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Nixon reckons we still want Souza regardless of Berge.

This really is fantasy football league , no way would they sell to us. We are so gullible, every name mentioned we take seriously, even Nixon is now taking the p!ss out of us for a laugh.

Berge is inconsistent but with his skill set, if he was consistent then he’d probably be out of our league. We need to take talented players with imperfections and hope we can iron them out

It is almost like the club and manager working together know what we need and how much money we can afford to spend, mad isn't it that those involved know a bit more than some on here.

Similar 'lolloping' style when moving with the ball to Kev, I'd say.

He could be great. However, his style makes him look lazy. If things don't go as well as we all hope for, he'll be the first to get stick imo.

Presumably he’s had a preseason with the Blades, wouldn’t think fitness would be the issues. It’ll be the tactics and theory, like all new signings, that’ll take time.
