I’d take Archer in a heartbeat - impressed me enormously for Boro. I think he’d suit us big time.
I would say “probably not got the budget for that” but who has a clue anymore? Having Foster, Amdouni and Archer all in that 21-22 range with massive ceilings and Jay behind them in a senior capacity sounds fantastic to me.

Absolutely and it's always easier for newcomers to come into an already happy squad.roperclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 10:28 pmI think we will see massive amounts of rotation this season. The trick will be keeping everyone happy.
It's taking a bit of time getting used to what's happening but boy does it feel good

More midfielders than we know what to do with.
Just wait till next week when we sign 12 left backs.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
All part of the management game. With the exception of Sheff Utd and Luton all the other PL saides have significantly large squads and it provides a real challenge to the manager in keeping them all motivated. For too many years we have had players who never got dropped after playing badly, and things change noticeably now. Examples are McNeil when he went through a bad run, Wood similar, Barnes similar, Westwood similar, scouseclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 10:26 pmIt’s all very exciting but at what point does the squad become too big? First we’re signing goalkeepers we didn’t know we needed, then a clutch of wingers ( to add to the clutch we signed last summer) now we’ve seemingly gone from nought to 3 central midfielders in a day, and we’re still short of a left back or two and a decent striker.
How are we going to keep all of them happy, and more importantly, where is the money coming from?

9 on the bench, at least 5 subs (not counting concussion subs) and games lasting for 73 hours, we will need them all !roperclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 10:28 pmI think we will see massive amounts of rotation this season. Personally, i'm very happy about our midfield situation now.......seems like ages since we've had ANY options there. Assuming Lokonga & Ramsey happen.

I'm normally not one for putting square pegs in round holes but I wonder if Beyer could fill the Maatsen role at left back, at least until we get someone in. Charlie seems a bit static for Vincent's liking but at least Beyer can bring the ball out with a bit of pace. Just a thought and I guess we'll find out Friday anyway!

Lakonga, ramsey and Maatsen on loan, and we've completed the most miraculous transfer window since last season.

Wilson Odobert is traveling to England tonight. If all goes well, the former Parisian will sign for 5 years at #Burnley . The attacker's transfer will bring 12 ME excluding bonuses to Troyes #mercato

Wondered if this would still be on the cards. Brilliant.

If we finish the transfer window with a centre midfield group of Berge, Lokonga (loan?) Ramsey, Cullen, JBG, Brownhill and Cork, I will be very pleased.

Must admit I find this one slightly confusing at 12 million. It's a lot for us Zero complaints obviously, but I would've thought a 12mil replacement for Barnes/Weghorst was more of a priority in terms of player profile. We're hardly struggling for pacy wide men! Anyway, I will concede that kompany has a smidge more know how in this area than me

If we're playing 4231, I very much doubt he's playing the 1. I can only see Amdouni or Jay rod who have the physicality to play that role?

Haha, we've that many players i forgot him! Yep food point. Hes another though who plays on the shoulder. Maybe we don't need another "hold up" forward. Anyway like I say not at all disappointed just wondering how he'll set up and where this kid will play when he gets pitch time.

player at only 18, who is good enough now for the first team squad but has the potential to become a very high value asset in the next couple of years, like our young Italian winger. Fantastic business model like Brighton and Brentford if we can pull it off. But assume you need to invest quite a bit up front , this season ,
to get the momentum going?

Gnonto is an amazing talent, if we could snap him up then that would be a real coup.
i suspect once the in's are done, we will see a few outs before the closing of the window.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I’ve said it before players come and look around - some have medicals , some don’t , some sign, some don’t .. so we’ll see. Some of the thread is nonsense some is correct , but what I will say is that almost none of the gossip on this thread about the timing of medicals is correct. On specific players and whether they’ve actually signed I have no idea , and neither should I have.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Single pivot is 1 defensive CM. Double pivot is two defensive CM's.
The 'pivot' is the 'in possession' role of players in those positions, always remaining central but moving to provide passing diamond and triangle options.
I.e. single pivot: if the GK has the ball at his feet, the CB's will create width to his left and right and the CDM will come deep to form a passing diamond between the 4 players. The Pivot always remains roughly in the center of the shape of the team but when the ball moves over to the right side, will follow to create a triangle or diamond again between RB, RM and RCB.
Double pivot has two people playing this role, with both players moving to create multiple passing shapes.
I guess the word pivot implies a rotation point. And that's essentially the role.

The big, big thing for me is that we’re going to have a genuine squad of about 20 players of a good level.
Training will be very competitive. Places are not guaranteed for anybody. This should raise standards and drive everybody on.
Dyche was great at keeping people motivated. But you could pretty much choose his first XI pretty much every week, plus what and when his substitutions would be. I don’t think that will be the car this year for us.

Absolutely Socrates. You could have 5 or more poor games in a row and be certain of starting the next game ie Wood, McNeil, Hendrick, Barnes. Right now the likes of JBG, Rodriguez, Cork,Taylor and one or two others will be worried about game time in this coming season.Competition is paramount. People on here have criticised the purchase of Trafford. GK in the PL is one of the most important positions-think you will find both Trafford & Muric at the top of their game this seasonSocrates wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:49 amThe big, big thing for me is that we’re going to have a genuine squad of about 20 players of a good level.

With the number of subs available all the players you mention will have the incentive that they can do a flat out hour knowing there’s an able sub to take their place or come on for the last half hour to see games out.
The pressure previously on Cork for example to do 90 mins in an ageing team was immense and similarly overuse likely led to JBG injuries and pressure then to come back too soon from them also

It’s difficult keeping track of all that’s happening! I’m certain that when all the pieces of the new jigsaw are in place, there’ll be some outgoings. In my wildest of dreams, I never thought I’d see the day when tens of millions would be spent by Burnley. My only regret is that I won’t see any of these new signings live on the Turf.

Quite like the idea that villa having clause which means they have to pay us twice as much as we pay them, in a deal that the player can turn down if he wants, means they hold all the power.Guller Bull wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 9:02 amInteresting article re Villa/Ramsey and potential buy back clause

Two of the things VK repeats is having competition for every position, and knowing that not every signing will be a success.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 10:56 pmAll part of the management game. The numbers we have in the squad means the competition is very real, but also unless they all flop, not likely, we are going to be left with a nucleus of a very good squad.
I also believe that very few of our players will play 90 mins every week, even if they avoid injury and suspension. Playing on the front foot, and going hard, means players will naturally need a rest occasionally.
Exciting times to be sure, it's like reading a book and dying to know what the next chapter will bring.
