Did Nixon give a name for going foreign if we can’t get Maatsen?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We have gone foreign for the majority of our signings. So easy to see what Nixons at. Looking for handy money. Knows **** all.

That Nixon "news" is class. It's a good gig if you can get it.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I absolutely think this is the case. I’ve said on the podcast a few times that I wonder if we were really ever serious about some of the signings we looked to be bidding for.Nonayforever wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 8:57 amI have wondered on a few occasions that our transfer policy isn't what it seems on the surface.
I get the feeling that names are put out there, and discussions obviously, which either engage or distract agents and other teams from what we are actually trying to achieve.
Showing ambition and the illusion that we have money can make other teams take decisions which are to our advantage.
I’m not saying we wouldn’t take those players (and I’m not saying that we didn’t rate them highly enough to sign them) but I just wonder if it was convenient to allow the names to get out and provide a distraction.
We know that VK likes to have plenty of options (they look at dozens of players in each position) and all bids will be for players who meet a certain threshold of ability. It might be that we use some of those as a smokescreen.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Nixon comes out with some crap like this mornings but he also called the Ramsey deal first (just provided an update that it’s set to close tomorrow after the player had to sign a new deal with Villa for if he returns down the track, seems odd to me that). So, you get some good some bad, who cares.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He probably saw the headlines or watched the first match and all the trouble in that game and thought better of it.Lukebakio deal is also off apparently.

The Ramsey one has always felt like a version of a loan deal to be honest. Which, with buybacks being so regular now, many deals are.

Ramsey is the strangest buy back clause deal I’ve seen, never before has a player signed a new contract at the selling club before moving to a new club

Not one journalist (Shira, Sacha, Romano) has even hinted towards the Lukebakio deal being off.

Didn’t see his brother in the squad for Villa yesterday at Newcastle, assume he is injured. Was interested to see how similar to his brother he plays , but must confess don’t recall Ramsey too much from last season when he played against us but well thought of by the Boro fans up here.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'm hoping we have agreed a decent buy back price for Ramsey. Because with a contractual agreement between Villa and Ramsey already in place for when he returns, there doesn't seem to be very much stopping Villa taking him back from us at a cut price if he does well and selling him straight after for a few extra million. Unless I'm missing something?
In that case I hope we've asked for a proportion of the profit if he's sold within x amount of months after going back there. Whether that's something that can happen in this case I don't know. As 123 has said, seems a stranger deal that others.

My Boro mate would have him back in a heartbeat - he says Ramseys injury coincided with Boros dip in form

I can understand us accepting a buy back clause going in if that’s where the selling club have the option to buy a player back at a set price IF we decide to sell. I’m fine with that.
I’m less comfortable if they can buy him back at any time, regardless of whether we want to sell. Albeit possibly the only way we’d get him, but certainly feels like a glorified loan in that scenario.
Would maybe prefer we continue to develop Twine.

I agree , I don’t think I have ever heard of a buy back clause which enables the original seller to buy back at any time at an agreed price. If that’s what the clause is.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:12 amHow do these buy back deals work?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Wiki actually has lukebakio down as being a Burnley player, hope so because he looks a real handful, and probably hasn't yet realised he's full potential, he's 25 and I'd be looking at a couple of seasons before that comes to fruition. It's looking like he and Ramsey are the only 2 still active, daramy gone, hamer gone, lokonga wants more money. Maybe the Chelsea line up today will throw some light on maatsen.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 9:38 amNot one journalist (Shira, Sacha, Romano) has even hinted towards the Lukebakio deal being off.

I lot of potential transfers seem to reach an advanced stage , even Townsend , then whoosh not happening for whatever reason.

How else would you go about getting the gullible to believe that you are 'in the know'?123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 10:57 pmIf you read through the Burnley’s ways tweets they tweet like they know exactly what is going on with every deal
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Depends. Sometimes it's an opportunity to match a bid if another club bids first and sometimes it's a locked in price. There'll possibly be expiry dates for these options too, and maybe they won't be triggered until eighteen months into his contract or something like that. They're potentially sort of loan deals but with one club (Burnley in this case) making some profit.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:12 amHow do these buy back deals work?

I’m all for us being creative to raise the levels of players we can attract within our means, but not so much to the extent where we’re at the mercy of the selling club on a buy back.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:16 amI agree , I don’t think I have ever heard of a buy back clause which enables the original seller to buy back at any time at an agreed price. If we have agreed to them being able to buy back at any time, I hope it requires 3 months notice (so we can plan), only actionable within the first few weeks of a window and only valid for the first few years of his contract with us.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Seems bizarre given the reports that the clubs agreed a fee, he was given several days to decide whether he wanted to join us , decides then to indicate yes , so travels to the UK. Then it’s off.
You start to think it’s more the club than the players that keep deciding to pull the plug at the death. Hopefully because a more preferred signing is now available?

It’s after 2 years it becomes valid.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:58 amI’m all for us being creative to raise the levels of players we can attract within our means, but not so much to the extent where we’re at the mercy of the selling club on a buy back.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Where’s this been confirmed?
And then is it if we’re selling to another club or that he can be recalled at will?
I can see the point of us getting at least a couple of years service although would probably prefer it the other way around (expiring after 2 years).

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The common theme on our transfers which seem close but do not happen appears to be our end pulling the plug. We have had Coulibaly who has now gone to Belgium, Townsend and now these current two rumours. It seems to me like so many people are desperate to come here so VK/ALK can afford to be really firm on their financials and move on if something isn’t quite right. I’m comfy with that.
The buy back clause is slightly better than the Wood clause in that only one club can trigger it.
The left back is the weird one, no strong rumours and no VK style LBs in the camp. It seems obvious we are holding on for Maatsen if we get a chance. I suspect VK thinks his ceiling is huge.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Hypothetically I wonder what might happen if a football club (club A say) were keen to send a young talent out on loan for some Premier League game time, which they could not give him, but the interested club (club B say) were not able or willing to use one of their allowed loan slots to take the player. An interesting quandary.
