Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Tella got a good write up in he opening Southampton fixture of the Championship. Evidently he showed a lot of skill and a good finish to one of his teams 'goals' that was attributed to a team mate instead of Tella as the shot ( on target) had brushed against his team mate on its way into the net.
Incidentally how many players score hat tricks in a season? As many as ten players in all four leagues all season at a guess.

Getting far too old the drop off from the 20s to 30s is noticeable even more so in this demanding league, Townsend is of a similar age scratting about looking for club options, he'll be used sparingly & then move on next season.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:52 pmHow was I being negative? Realistic, maybe.
JBG of 5 years ago was a very different player to the JBG of now. He simply isn’t quick enough to play as a winger at this level and in this system (still probably quicker than Vitinho though in all fairness).

I would say most of the teams outside of the top 5 in Ligue 1 would be Championship level to be honest. They certainly wouldn't survive in the PL

Weghorst is a closer comparison, had two seasons at premier league level where he has struggled but then goes to turkey and plays well.
I doubt any of us would be happy signing him now for 15m given we know how he performs at this level.

It is amazing just how much football some people watch. Not one player out there is linked without experts having watched, or so they would have you believe.
Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Holland and German leagues we have posters who watch it all which is some commitment to the sport. Even someone watching Hertha Berlin last season, who you would imagine most there games kick off at 2.30 on a Saturday at the same time as attending Burnley games. Then there is English football added on top, I am amazed some even managed to leave the house.
The morning after the window closes is still the best day of the window.

Plenty of time for people to watch other teams play. I watched the bundesliga this weekend. I mean there was literally a thread where people were discussing the Bayern game.

Big difference is Tella fits our system he fits with the way we play, so it's not as much of a gamble because we know what we'd be getting, his pace, his ability to play across the front three, his first touch, his finishing and with all that even at 15m to 20m it wouldn't be a gamble and to me it's a no brainer to be honestNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 6:56 pmI appreciate your point, but I also look at it and find it very strange that when we were linked to Adams mostly the same posters were not interested, even though he has a considerably better record at every level.

There was a thread talking about a live TV game in Germany where Harry Kane made his debut ? A game that kicked off at 7.45pm ? Not really a surprise that is it. Hardly the same as somehow watching Hertha Berlin at 2.30 on a Saturday in a game not on TV while going to Burnley games.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 8:11 amTo be fair Burnley play in one out of a possible 7 time slots.

A quick Google search shows there were nine in the Championship alone last season from seven players (two each for Nathan T and Tom Bradshaw of Millwall), so I suspect that your guesstimate is pretty wide of the mark.claret59 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 12:38 amTella got a good write up in he opening Southampton fixture of the Championship. Not too fussed about Lukebakio - a lot of his goals were from the penalty spot and he’s only really had a bit of success at Hertha - failed to impress everywhere else that he’s been
Not to mention we want guys that want to be here and develop with VK and the team.
The Villa/Ramsey situation is a little bit strange mind, not sure what’s going on there.

See I’m not sure I can agree with that. If we are paying the same fee for both. Surely the player that has consistently played at premier league level is the safer option?AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 8:18 amBig difference is Tella fits our system he fits with the way we play, so it's not as much of a gamble because we know what we'd be getting, his pace, his ability to play across the front three, his first touch, his finishing and with all that even at 15m to 20m it wouldn't be a gamble and to me it's a no brainer to be honest

Really don’t understand why posters are mentioning the likes of Mitrovic scoring 40 goals when assessing Tella’s season with us.
In the same way as there is no way in a million years Tella would have scored 40 in that Fulham team it’s just as good obvious that there is no way Mitrovic would be able to play in VKs team like Tella did and lead the press and be fitter than anybody on the pitch etc
If people can’t see what Tella brings to our side over and above goals then they are watching a different game to me

Wonder how many of those saying Tella couldn’t hack it in the PL realise Lukebakio also failed to break through at Watford whilst in the PL (1 app 0 goals) - in a worse side than Southampton.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'm not interested in the safer option. I would like the player most likely to fit in to what we have already. I want want quick, dynamic. I want someone who understands VK's way of playing, someone who works for the team and fellow teammates. We know Tella fits that profile. We hope that new players also fit the same profile. Positive signs against City from the new players and also from Foster. The only change in approach if we play against Haaland again is to adjust our zonal defensive plays to allow the nearest to Haaland to get tighter. He is too good at making space for himself. His drop off play is exceptional in a crowded area.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He was only 20 to be fair. I would love to see Tella back here, just don’t think he’s worth the fee being quoted.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 10:34 amWonder how many of those saying Tella couldn’t hack it in the PL realise Lukebakio also failed to break through at Watford whilst in the PL (1 app 0 goals) - in a worse side than Southampton.

Chris Wood has consistently played at premier league level. Do you think he could lead the press for 90 minutes like Tella ?
Has the last 12 months not shown beyond doubt that VK recruits players that he believes he can develop and play in his system. I cannot imagine him ever buying a player with loads of premier league experience and then changing his system to suit the player.
If he does go for a player with premier league experience like Redmond then it’s because he believes he can play in his system and the experience then comes as an added bonus but it’s definitely not his priority.

City have got an abundance of quality all over the park in every position whatever you try to do they'll find a way through, keeping it to 3 is more than respectible & in some phases of play we gave them a few things to think about, focusing on haaland another city player will just exploit the space & create something for himself or somebody else.Darnhill Claret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 10:37 amI'm not interested in the safer option. OK, after reading the expert opinions on the last few pages I've been convinced and who wouldn't be: If we buy Nathan Tella, we're nailed-on for the Champions League; it must be true, what's not to like? A no brainer, offer Southampton whatever they ask and pay Nathan £100k/week

One option, though a better one might be to allow him a bit more space, so offering a clear shot for a sniper on the roof of the nearest stand; probably need a large caliber bullet to stop Haaland mind.Darnhill Claret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 10:37 am...The only change in approach if we play against Haaland again is to adjust our zonal defensive plays to allow the nearest to Haaland to get tighter. It’s obviously a player by player basis and there will be positive and negative examples… but in this case there is a reason Hennings signed for a Championship side for 500k, while Lukebakio is a full Belgian international wanted by Champions League sides for > £10m. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Well Jakubclaret, City do indeed have an abundance of talent throughout their team but I think it is fair to say that Haaland is probably their most skilled and efficient finisher. For the first two goals we were 'defensively set up' so a tweak is definitely required to cope with a team that drops off as far as City do/did. Zonal still requires someone to attack the ball. VK wants to defend how he wants to defend and that is fine, but if he looks at what went wrong or didn't work, he will still be instructing the guys how to react when the other team drop off as far as City did. We have to avoid 'the straight line' and react a bit quicker. There is a lot to be said for anticipation and quick reactions.

As does the Belguim, Dutch and all other ones. Let me be clearer, those who claim to watch all different leagues at all different times, know everything about any player we are linked with and still attend Burnley games is lying out of his arse.
Love to know how many of the 34 games the team who finished rock bottom ended up in the league were featured as the stand out tv game

Players sometimes just work/fit in certain places and in certain systems.
It’s good looking at players as assets and the book value, but there’s a lot more nuance than that.

Not the greatest source but I feel like brownhill would struggle to turn West Ham down, European football and probs a big 4 or 5 year deal. Good player and gets Burnley but if we can pull anything close to 20m for him I think it’s a sale we should do, we would of then doubled our money on him

Brownhill might not have the technical ability that VK perhaps wants at this level but his work rate, character and leadership make him not easy to replace. I still think we’ll see him feature a lot this season particular in a midfield 3.
