Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don't know how anyone can judge that Foster can replace Tella.
In The Championship, which is all we really know, Tella made 39 appearances (8 as sub) and scored 17 goals.
Foster made 11 appearances (7 as sub) and score one. As much as he has some qualities, goal scoring is not one of them from what we have seen so far. He didn't look likely to score in The Championship so it seems to me wishful, thinking to expect lots of goals in The Premier League.
That may be the case with Tella too of course.

Nathan Tella has 1 goal and 2 assists in 33 PL appearances.
Lyle Foster has no goals in 1 PL appearance.
Just throwing out more useless stats.

just listening to the Athletic podcast and they just said that not only did Brighton get 115 million for Caicedo they also got a huge sell on clause inserted into the deal, fair play to whoever has managed that

Bit harsh on Foster using the stats like that, his total game time in all his league appearances amounted to 4 full games. Considering joining in Jan - no pre season and in a new country he is going to take timeHipper wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 3:32 pmI don't know how anyone can judge that Foster can replace Tella.

I used the stats to amplify my point, namely, what evidence is there that suggests that Foster can play the Tella role in The Premier League. Answer, very little. It just seems to be wishful thinking.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 3:35 pmNathan Tella has 1 goal and 2 assists in 33 PL appearances.

I wouldn’t directly compare the two, different players with different footballing backgrounds. Nobody will score lots of goals this year but hopefully lots of players will score a few.
Largest indicator that Foster will do well for us this season (performance wise overall, not just goals) - because VK sees enough in him (and CB) to start him.

Foster was bought for the PL, not the Championship. This has been outlined several times by both the board and the current manager.
I saw enough from Foster against the best team in the world on Friday to know his pace and strength will help him do well this season for us in the PL. There will be a lot of people eating humble pie when he comes good.

Comes across as saying Foster isn't as good as Tella. might just be the way it's worded!Hipper wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 3:32 pmI don't know how anyone can judge that Foster can replace Tella.

I agree he's not a replacement, different style of players, but many said last season that Foster would be better suited to the Prem, due to the higher line teams will take against us this season. I think so, with his speed he needs to play off the shoulder and get in behind.
The surprise, and biggest plus of Friday night, was how strong he was in the tackle, how strong he was at protecting the ball when he'd won it, even against City's experience, and what good use he made of the ball when he passed it. His link up play was excellent.
Very excited to see him and Amdouni develop a partnership, if they keep improving on Fridays performance they are going to be some force, even at this level.

Foster does have talents but he's never really scored many at any level or for the clubs he's played at... Saying that, Tella wasn't exactly prolific previously to playing for us either but at least he has speed, an amazing first touch and control, as well as superb composure...
The only issue I have with Foster is that we paid at least 6 million too much for him and that is probably why he is under constant scrutiny!

Surely we have buy Nathan Tella now. Too many of these striking targets are just not happening. There must be some interest from the manager/chairman or we wouldn't have had all that Nelson Mandela stuff a few weeks ago. Just get him in (and a left back) and we will all be able to rest in our beds tonight.

It all feels a bit bizarre on here.
We've got a very fast powerful talented kid playing at centre forward, who's just totally p1ssed the mom in his first ever Prem game against the best club in the world...and we still have this motley collection of gloomy negative herberts with nothing better to do than carp about him.
Weird tbh.
Same folk were probably lapping it up when our masterplan was lumping endlessly to Wood and Barnes.

I think Foster showed enough against Man City to suggest he's going to be fine at this level. Wether he gets 10 goals plus or whatever is a bit irrelevant to be honest. If his performances are good then that's fine for me. I'm happy to share the goals out across the team.
I'd also add that the Foster we saw in pre-season and then against Man City looks light years away from the player we initially signed. He looks a lot fitter for a start but also generally looks like he's more on the same wave length as everyone else. Most posters said he needed time but some just wanted and still want to write him off. Hope he makes them eat humble pie and the early signs look good.

What's pretty obvious is that the numpties are trying to write him off because he wasn't effective against Champ teams seige defending with 11 men in the box.. whereas the lad was clearly bought with counter-attacking in the Prem in mind. Something to which he'll take like a duck to water.

Nathan Tella should have been our priority signing
Chasing players who want time to think about signing for the most exciting team to grace the Premier league in years is futile.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Trésor is also still available. Made a transfer request last week and he would also prefer to come to Burnley.
The best scenario would be Tresor and Bakayoko on the left and right hand side. But I doubt we have 40-50 mil in the bank. Though they would be wise investments. Especially Bakayoko has a very high resell value, and he's ready to make an impact on the highest level. Tresor had amazing statistics last season, if he can pull it off in the premier league he will become a valued player as well. Technically he'd fit in perfectly and he could add alot of creativity with his precise passing and good crosses.

Genk is also getting nervous as they would prefer to seal the deal and get a replacement settled in. Having a key player that isn't 100% there in his mind isn't an ideal situation. Their results have been disappointing getting defeated by Servette in the Champions League qualification round. An offer less than 20 million would do.
As for Lukebakio the only reason I can see why he hasn't signed already is because they have a better option for his position, maybe Bakayoko? Otherwise I don't see why Burnley wouldn't be able to find an agreement. I don't think his wage demands would be that exuberant.
