Was due to stay on loan at Augsburg, where he has been on loan since January , till 31st Dec, but loan was terminated earlier this week and he returned to Sporting Lisbon

Renato Palma Veiga is a Portuguese football player who plays as a midfielder for Bundesliga club FC Augsburg, on loan from Primeira Liga club Sporting CP, and captains the Portugal national under-20 football team.
Captain of the U20's is a good sign. Definitely a promising signing, no idea how likely this is.

Is this so that SL can sell him?

I think he's one for the future, and VK just wants him to play regular.eastcoastclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 11:21 amA Hull supporting colleague seems to think it's a loan with an option to buy. Personally, I think that might just be wishful thinking on his part.
He also says they are in for Andros Townsend.
I doubt we'd sell, and if we did Hull couldn't afford him.

I wouldn’t have thought so. Two very different profiles. Lokonga would be a marquee signing and go straight into the first XI. I’m not sure this lad would.

Looks tall (around 6ft 2) and athletic, all left foot but has technical ability. The you tube highlights are mainly from a level well below where we are but he could be someone who at 20 years old that could steadily improve and become a decent player for us.burnley007 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 3:45 pmRenato Palma Veiga is a Portuguese football player who plays as a midfielder for Bundesliga club FC Augsburg, on loan from Primeira Liga club Sporting CP, and captains the Portugal national under-20 football team.

That’s no good, we don’t like players here who’re predominantly one footed
See McNeil and David Jones as examples

Interesting take from the Augsburg supporters.
https://www.transfermarkt.ch/renato-vei ... d_id/14113

But according to BILD information, the planned demolition of the loan also has another reason!
Augsburg's number 8 is said to have repeatedly attracted negative attention with unpunctuality and a conversation with the coach did not bring any improvement. For Maassen, who attaches great importance to discipline and mutual respect within his team, this misconduct is another reason to no longer plan with Veiga.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Seems like most of our deals are very slow or fallen through. Only thing I'm getting at the moment is that W Ham, Everton and Wolves want Brownhill. I think we'd be crazy to let him leave with our current midfield and Twine having been loaned out. Hopefully somethings are happening in the shadows. LB, midfield and striker still needed.

Yes frustrating , particularly with not even any more rumours on the delay regarding Ramsey.Firthy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 5:41 pmSeems like most of our deals are very slow or fallen through. But I assume we would not have allowed Twine to go on loan if the club weren’t confident of bringing someone better in.

Letting Brownhill go with no replacement through the door would be PL suicide.

For all we know brownhill could be the one stalling on a new contract and his agent could be putting his name out there

I suspect we’d only sell him if he’d indicated he wasn’t signing and his agent has told him he can double his wageTricky Trevor wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 6:41 pmLetting Brownhill go with no replacement through the door would be PL suicide.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The rumours around Brownhill leaving seem to stem from him not being willing to sign a new deal. The timing of this seems consistent with us tying down others like Cullen and Benson. By selling now we could extract a decent fee. He has one year left on his contract with an option for another year. Hopefully, the option is in the clubs favour. If the rumour is true there may be substance in him leaving.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think we have been passive in handling contract discussions with our better players over the last 3-4 years and it has cost us. Examples are Tarks, Mee, Hendrick recently and several more.At the same time we have found it easier to extend contracts of those who are in their twilight years ie Jay, Cork, JBG, Bardsley,Lennon Long and many more.
With our new business model ,gaining a return from players refusing to enter and conclude contract extensions is vital for the club to succeed as a business. I would love Josh to sign a new deal as he can still make a major contribution, but if he is playing "hard-ball" then lets move him on and reinvest the money

Is that how Brighton or Brentford feel?
We’re Burnley more of a shop than a football club in the 60’s and 70’s when we always had to sell and had to fight to maintain a place at the top table?

There could be a risk of that - what we don’t know of course is how long all of the new additions will stay for. It’s possible that one or two could be with us for many years and they themselves become the latest club stalwarts.Robbie_painter wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 9:53 pmSomebody posted this last week but are we in danger of losing identity and ending up with a squad of individuals with no real leaders or characters?
I don’t think this sort of thinking would be lost on Kompany. You only need to hear some of his comments on Barnes etc. to see that he appreciates, and understands, the need for older heads who understand the club, and in turn, pass that experience on.

Going a bit Watford I feel, still believe we’re over thinking things massively.
I get the plan to buy low and sell high but there’s a balance to be had for sure.
Lots of stuff to admired that the club is doing at the moment but there’s a little bit creeping in that I’m not so sure about.

I don’t expect a character like VK to have a team with a lack of character.
We might like Josh Brownhill because he looks a good lad, VK might think he’s limited and and there is a 20 year old Andorran who could do the same.
I’m going to trust VK over boatshedbill.

It’s high based on our previous experience and model.
But definitely low relative to the league and what one big sale could bring in

I think all have been purchased with a view to sell for a markup bar Berge & O’Shea - might make our money back on those two or a slight profit depending. Got a feeling Dara could be here for a while though, which would be grand.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 10:46 pmOther thank koleosho, who have we bought low to sell high? We have spent 60m

But for Burnley’s standards and finances we aren’t buying low. Can’t say spending 9m on a 18 year old winger from France is buying low.Father Jack wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 10:48 pmEveryone has been bought low by the standards of the league we are hoping to compete in.
