He’s valued now just like Tella & Mattsen are because of the season (or half in his case) they had with us.BigChaCha wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 12:47 pm4th choice He'd only be competing for one spot!...
He walks into this current defence without an ounce of doubt... He's far more mentally mature, a better organiser, a stronger leader and a slicker passer than any central defender on our books...
It is no coincidence that he is valued on the market more than any of our current defenders!
However because of his injury we took steps to cover him and it worked out with Al Dakeel and Beyer became the dominant CB, O’Shea is faster and stronger and just as slick
In the Premier League our defenders will be put under immense pressure, Ekdal’s lack of pace will be an issue iff isolated and I believe THB would have the same issue
A well drilled defence will cater for this to some degree but at times we’ll get dragged about.
Is THB good enough for us, yes, is he worth 15m, yes, but it’d the position that we’re strongest in, so if we only had 15m or multiples of then I’d buy a striker a left back another CM before I’d spend 15m on THB

So disappointed he didn’t live up to his name like Arthur Gnohere.

No rumours of the Ramsey dealing breaking down , no rumours at all about it. Can only therefore suspect that Villa want to delay the signing until after the deadline next Friday lunchtime for signings for the Villa match ????!!!!!

Is it more an issue with the buy back arrangements? It seems like he's training at the club already, so probably just issues at the Villa end that don't affect our part of the deal?northeastclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 2:08 pmNo rumours of the Ramsey dealing breaking down , no rumours at all about it. Don't understand that if he hasn't signed yet. Surely still a Villa player.

Why would Villa allow their player to train with us when he hasn't been transferred to us as yet and what would happen, insurance wise, if he got injured on our training ground whilst still registered with Villa?burnley007 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 2:12 pmIs it more an issue with the buy back arrangements? Bayer Leverkusen have bid 18m euros for Tella.

It doesn't mean Tella has to go there.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don’t know enough about our new players to compare to Tella so what happens will happen, I’ll accept it. Gut instinct though the English players or players at English clubs remain overpriced as ever and we get better value elsewhere. Value is the name of the game for us now, get that right we could be at the top table for another decade.
Example of the above being Lukebakio, ok he was on the Turf last Friday then rejected us, fine, but Sevilla have bid a few million under us at less than €10m and he is a very good player, Tella being priced at double that.
Keener on Maatsen because we have left that position obviously empty. Cucu won’t be going to Newcastle now the Geordie fan Hall is signing for them instead, whether that means Maatsen will go remains to be seen.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Makes you wonder if we have made any bids yet for Tella. 18 million euros is essentially 15 million pounds which is about his value I'd say.
Maybe we are waiting for Southampton to accept an offer then us match it knowing he would prefer to come here?

I'm not doubting THB is a talented lad with a bright future, but he doesn't walk back into our current defence at all - that's nonsense. Beyer was our best CB last season. THB was very good until his injury, but right from his first game he didn't move the ball quickly enough and that was apparent when he played his last few games for us. Neither Beyer or Ekdal held onto the ball for anywhere near as long as THB did and it's not something he would get away with in the PL.
THB has a lot of potential but so do all our CBs. There's no more Kevin Long types in the squad. Al Dakhil is getting better every week and has already gained full caps for Belgium - the sky is the limit for that guy. Kompany clearly rates O'Shea very highly. Ekdal is a full Swedish International and can't get near the team. No way THB walks in ahead of them all.

Only because his team got relegated last season from Ligue 1, he seems to have played as a central forward rather than out wide last season and scored 12 goals in the French top flight.
I'm not saying we should sign him but his figures are decent last season even with the two red cards as Vegas points out.

Might be pure delusion but I think JBG could do a job at left back provided it’s a back 3. Sounds crazy at first but so was playing him in central midfield last season.

He was and they played together quite a bit last season.
Goalscoring wasn't the problem for Troyes, it was defending.

I thought THB was the best passer of the ball probably in the entire squad but lacked a yard and wasn’t the strongest in the air.
Didn’t see him as holding on to the ball at all - thought he was very clinical when on the ball.

Mama Balde was one of the earliest links of the window wasn’t he, when that Turkish ‘journo’ linked us with 38628265 strikers in 48 hours

With the way the transfer market is going £20m for Maatsen seems about right , hope we get him in before he gets too established with Poch.
We should also just buy Tella at £15m and stop messing about.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
To miss out on Tella would be a real shame as I think he would be a great addition. With Everton going after Adams and the overseas interest being shown by Leverkusen the clock's certainly ticking however I believe he's definitely worth £15-16m in the current market if not more, forwards often are.
No, he hasn't proved himself in the EPL but he does have experience and is a lively goal scorer which is going to be even more vital this season. Some of our newer recruits have hardly played in England and it would be very fortunate if all of them hit the ground running.
I'm not sure if it has been mentioned but Southampton did not cup tie Tella which might mean he's in the shop window?
Anyhow this exciting window isn't over yet so fingers crossed we add to the squad still further. UTC

Will be keen to see if this Odobert plays at £9m , seems pricey.
