What sort of CB is he? Or is he more of a left back, 6ft 1 isn’t tallest for a cb

I think he's a great player obviously underrated at the moment. A bit situation as with Benson, big potential player that's momentarily not being appreciated as he is by guys that do know football such as Vince. 1.85m tall reasonably fast fairly good in the air very good passing, smart player that already knows our build up play. Could definitely sub for Beyer and reach a similar level. When he's fit of course.

A CB that likes to get the ball and build up from the back. He lacks a bit stamina and pure speed to go up and down the wing. Obviously not a dribbler. Definitely a CB. Yet with the understanding and good technique to still pull off a decent performance at LB (in case of need) He's a humble hard working team player with a lovely technique. I enjoy watching him. Not worse than Al Dakhil in my opinion. Smart off the ball, could work on becoming more dominant and more aggressive. Probably/hopefully he could pick that up from Vinnie and from playing English football. If he stays fit he's a great addition to the squad.

Love your knowledge and posts mate.Anthonini wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 3:11 pmSeeing our best youth players leave for a nickel and a dime doesn't surprise me at all. Great defender that was close to the national team but then got an unlucky injury. Last summer they bought Vertonghen. Hoedt already left afterwards and Delcroix hasn't played much since. Too bad as he's one of the biggest talents they have.
Can't go wrong with Hannes Delcroix. Very comfortable on the ball. Smart player, good positioning, fits perfectly in Kompany's system, has a good long ball and good vision.

I’m a bit confused. If VK had all these great talents at Anderlecht then why did he struggle to get a tune out of them?

Sounds well worth a punt at £1 million as long as he's happy with a fairly low salary, but from what I'm reading he may struggle to pass his medical!

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He's more like Al Dakhil. Maybe better on the ball and more experienced.
If he would have never been injured at Anderlecht he would have probably made a transfer to a bigger league anyway. Of course he got his setbacks. Also Vertonghen signing for Anderlecht kind of blocked him.
If you can get a player with all the skills and potential to play for the Premier League for just 1 million, seems like a no brainer. He's still young and hopefully he can stay free of injuries and become a useful member of the squad.
This transfer makes way more sense than the ones of Bastien and Bruun Larsen. Who I don't see as good enough for Burnley. Not even on the bench. Delcroix actually proved himself already for Anderlecht. It's not a youth player anymore. He got loaned out successfully when he was younger to a club in the Dutch league to then become a starter for Anderlecht afterwards. He earned his stripes already and just when he got called up for the national team he got an unfortunate injury.
Nice player to watch because he's technically pretty good.

Looks like he was out at Australasia in Manchester last night based on his Instagram. Not sure he’d have been out if he’d done his ACL 2 days earlier, so he’s probably fine.Dodobdobodobo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 8:12 amLet’s hope the imminent signing of Delcroix doesn’t mean that the rumours about Jordan Beyer are true and he hasn’t done his acl

Another Nixon classic “tale” then. Charging for stories about things that aren’t happening.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Possibly Al-Dakhil is ok, but Vitinho and Roberts are not as good as Taylor at LB
It really is strange when a manager just does not want a player at the club when we have little or no alternatives
Just hope this stance does not come back to hurt us
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
On what evidence do you say that?
VK might have busted his balls to get him back, alternatively he could just have gone "meh, can't be arsed."
I suspect that you have no better understanding of what went goes on behind the scenes than I do and I know diddly squat.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I like Charlie Taylor but in this league we have to stop teams scoring as we don’t score many in this league based on past performances. I think about one game in 4 or 5 we score more than one goal
Quite a few goals in the past two seasons under Sean with Taylor at left back we conceded from the right
We can only hope VK has enough up front to better our scoring record as our defence is poorer than when we were last in the league
Pope Tarks Mee better defenders than we currently have and Taylor despite his errors probably the best defensive left back we have
Time will tell

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Think LB will be sorted soon, and suspect VK has a few irons in the fire. VK has already made a statement about Taylor by not even including him in the squad v Man City, and he is the only recognised senior LB, so I would expect at least one in and CT sold. One name that came to mind for me is Brandon Williams of Man Utd. He burst on the scene around 3-4 years ago at United and I thought then he would go on to be a very good player, but for various reasons it never happened. Still only 22 but has played 80 senior games, mainly for Man Utd but also for Norwich in the PL. He is an attack minded full back and could suit our style of play-only a thought, and suspect an upgrade on Vitinho in that position.

Probably over hyped because he's from Utd.

Has VK ever seen Charlie Taylor as a left back in his system?
He is a fantastic left back in my opinion but he isn't the type of LB that VK wants from what I can see.

VK has been very stubborn about not seeing Taylor as a left back for us. Even when Maatsen was suspended last season, even for the City game when we don't have any other left backs.
His stubbornness is probably a good thing and it's time for the very latest of late adaptors to accept Taylor isn't part of the squad as a left back.

If it's a left back we're chasing, what about Kieran Tierney ? Falling down the pecking order at Arsenal and Newcastle have turned there attention elsewhere. However, when fit he's one of the best LB's in the EPL. Rumoured could be going back to Celtic. While there's an obvious emotional attraction, is it really in his best interest at this stage in his career.

I don’t think Ramsey is a done deal and been training with us as people are making out, kompany said it was close the Wednesday before the City game, that’s nearly 2 weeks. There is more to this that meets the eye and I think the whole buy back from villas end isn’t sorted and they are cover complicating it
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
In my opinion Taylor is gone. Too old and dosent play the system VK wants and on a high salary.Burnley can get some fee for him now and with a 24 year old replacement on way get rid.

I agree on his aerial ability. I actually don't think THB and Beyer were a great partnership from that point of view. They were both very comfortable on the ball and suited our possession based play, but you saw the difference when Ekdal came in. His physical presence compared to THB was clear to see. I'm still surprised he's not started this season. Beyer and Ekdal looked like a perfect partnership last season. They immediately looked like they'd played together for years!CoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 3:35 pmInteresting observation.
I thought THB was the best passer of the ball probably in the entire squad but lacked a yard and wasn’t the strongest in the air.
Didn’t see him as holding on to the ball at all - thought he was very clinical when on the ball.

We often got caught out with a high line with Taylor at the back (Hull, Blackpool) - not to mention the Sheff United away debacle.
Played some cracking passes though I was properly impressed with his distribution - but always felt like we were defensively quite soft.
Ekdal as you say came straight into the team and looked liked been playing here for a few years… Luton didn’t get a sniff at their place and he really sured us up at set pieces.
Can’t be underestimated his goal threat either - some centre halves just have a knack of scoring at set pieces.
If we persist with a 3, then I’d really like to see Ekdal at the centre of the three with Beyer, Al-Dakhil/O’Shea either side of him.
This other centre half from Anderlecht sounds promising… not a bad bit of business turning Bobby Thomas into 2 mill and getting this lad for a million.

My point being that we did a lot better than we did against other teams with similar play styles with a new back line.

The week after (I think) we were at Millwall and played them off the park for 80 minutes and they equalised late on. Luton was a much tougher game.
