Based on the last two games Maatsen isn’t the left back we need defensively. Great going forward for the inverted role but both Walker and cash would of had a field day against Maatsen when attacking

He'd certainly be a good signing.

Looks like he was going to the Sheff Utd, but wages were an issue.

I've always thought Origi would be a beast in our system, I hope we get him
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Would be a good profile to pose a threat up front. He's strong he's quick and he knows where the goal's at. Technically strong and can hold a ball. In Kompany's system he would thrive. He's a different calibre than Foster. Knows the premier league already.

The last thing we need is another winger!
We need proper fullbacks and arguably another midfielder

Origi is a good player. Let’s not forget that he has scored in a champions league final and was basically first reserve of the Liverpool front three when they were in their pomp 2 or 3 years ago.
Have I read this morning that we have also had a bid for Mikautadze rejected? Maybe I’m making it up but sure I saw something on Twitter.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
loved the documentary but it did clearly show these owners regarding football had a lot of naivety and maybe thats coming through a little bit as the jump for the team side making the prem is the same for the owners its a massive jump so so soon into their reign. They have bundles of enthusiasm, ideas, etc etc but it's a massive jump. Our style "at our level" might not be good enough now where as say a "sheff utd" men behind the ball wait and pounce on the counter might be better, who knows. This league is full of teams that know how to counter even the likes of Palace (v Sheff Utd), Wolves (against Utd and Everton), Forest (against Utd) know how to exploit teams like us especially at our ground where we are expected to dominant the ball. Everyone top to bottom is learning on the job and its a school of hard knocks. Yes the first 3 games all home ones looked extremely tough and there looked a possibility of a 0/9 start and yeah because it did not involve our mini league these are not the type of games that will define survival or not BUT when we reach a "mini league" game it would be advantageous to know our best 11 and give it a right go.

I have to be honest. I’d swap any of our signings for … Sousa … Hamer …and Archer

I get that we may need reinforcements in the CM area but im not sure Souza and Hamer are the answer (ofcourse you are entitled to your opinion). I watched the Sheffield vs City game yesterday and the scoreline massively flattered Utd.
If City had their shooting boots on it would have been a cricket score.
City were clinical against us but they missed chance after chance yesterday.
Haaland never looked like scoring (albeit he did in the end) and even missed a pen.
Rodri scuffed quite a few shots. Normally they rip the back of tje net.
My point is that they totaly overran Utd, much more than they did to us and had 30 shots.
Maybe, just maybe other teams are worse than us.

Sheffield United are poor they have always had a team of Alehouse brawlers and they lack the panache of the Super Clarets
Despite yesterday I am of the same opinion of VK that when we bed in our new players we will be a very good team of entertainers.

I think this would make a lot of sense. We need more physicality, experience and presence in the team and if we need a forward, it is one who can ideal play from the right or down the middle. Origi ticks those boxes.Father Jack wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 5:07 pmhttps://x.com/nicoschira/status/169619 ... wu7FY-HWTQ

You wouldn't think Blades had lost their opening three matches including two games where they would've been looking to get something. Think some of our fanbase need to get their big boy pants on and start backing this team a bit more especially after last season.

Agreed Swizzlestick-you would not think we had just returned to the PL in our first attempt. Can't believe the negativity shown to our club and individual players within two games. I think the phrase "true supporters " has to be challenged. You can live with constructive criticism, and plenty of reason when you split down the two games for readers to post, but some of these guys are just showing themselves up. As someone famous once said we are Burnley not Barcelona

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don't dispute that Sheffield United used him as something approaching an 8, in a genuine box to box role backing the play up and ranging forwards. You can debate if that got the absolute best from him - his reputation has waned a bit since he joined Sheffield United and as noted he played deeper in his time in Belgium when his star was higher - but even so, at least whe from what I saw, that role last season was a more conventional midfield role than he played in the first half in particular yesterday. Its also worth noting Sheffield United got the ball forward early last season into the channels, so Berge's role would primarily involve coming onto second balls after field position had been established. That is completely different proposition to what we will ever ask of him under Kompany, and in particular to the advanced role he took yesterday when he spent large periods with his back to goal.claretandy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 10:24 amSheff Utd played 532, he played on the right of the 3, there fans say he was best in the inside right channel, bursting into the box or putting crosses in, similar to how Brownhill played for us last season.

I saw the game too and despite having little possession United nearly won the game. The defended well, Foderingham was excellent, and they scored a good goal and had another good chance (despite our huffing and puffing I never felt we were actually going to score). They can be proud of their showing. I consider they competed better then we did.Cap wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 5:05 pmI get that we may need reinforcements in the CM area but im not sure Souza and Hamer are the answer (ofcourse you are entitled to your opinion). I don't think Man City are playing particularly well at all. I've seen their three televised league games and they've been the same in each. They've done enough but no more.

Is Lokonga still on?
Brighton are apparently interested in Lille midfield player Balebo to replace Caicedo so maybe they will no longer have an interest in Lokonga?

But we did score, and Jayrod should have had at least one if not two. (Most PL strikers would have expected to take both chances).Hipper wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 6:00 pmThe defended well, Foderingham was excellent, and they scored a good goal and had another good chance (despite our huffing and puffing I never felt we were actually going to score). They got away with it massively. Haaland played like he had diver's boots on for most of it.Hipper wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 6:00 pmI saw the game too and despite having little possession United nearly won the game. Usually if you concede 30 shots to a team like city you would concede something like 5 or 6. It's not like they were all speculative efforts either.
Anyway the discussion was about our midfield and we have just played the 2 best teams in the country over the past 6 months (just seen on Twitter that the league table since Emery took charge, City are top and Villa 2nd). And Utd have played games they could have got somthing from.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Seems like Aster Vranckx wants to go to PSV to play with his best buddy Bakayoko... So he might be keen on staying after all. PSV has to sell players before they can sign Vranckx.
Or we could hijack the Vranckx transfer, play him instead of Roberts. Get Bakayoko too to play instead of lazy Benny until he picks up the PL pace. Loan Tresor and look for Sambi on a loan too to compete with Berge.
And get Origi on top of that.

I thought we were playing without a leftback with 3 real central defenders and one that shuttles from defense to midfield. Probably why they didn't buy any extra wingbacks.

Lazy Benny ? Is this a pxxx take?
He's our star who often had 3 men on him with no support from Roberts behind him or Berge.

On the ball he's good but off the ball he doesn't do much. Seemed to keep some in the tank for second half. I think he can do better. Roberts didn't receive enough help from him against a strong and fast team. Koleosho did that way better.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 6:56 pmLazy Benny ? Is this a pxxx take?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
HLN reporting this on Tresor now, some interesting translations
‘On paper, Burnley wants to rent the 24-year-old Trésor from KRC Genk. After all, to stay in line with the Financial Fair Play rules, the club must be careful when spending transfer amounts. But this rent is also linked to a compulsory purchase, so that in practice there is no difference with a final transfer, in which the amount is also spread over time in most cases.
KRC Genk initially set the asking price for Trésor at 25 million euros. That was aiming high in order to eventually catch an amount that would be close to or even slightly higher than the amount that was caught for Paul Onuachu last year. In this case we are talking about 18 to 20 million, including bonuses.
Because the negotiations between the clubs are progressing well, Trésor himself can also sit around the table with Burnley. The English club has its manager as its great weapon: Vincent Kompany has long been a fan of the former U23 international with the velvet judge, he wanted to get him on board at the start of last season.
But Trésor also wants butter with the fish in the Premier League. However, Burnley does not wave the dizzying contracts with which many top English clubs lure top talent. Which means that there is still work to be done in that area.
Trésor was missing on Monday morning on the practice field at KRC Genk. He has a minor thigh injury, but is also allowed to focus on his future at this stage of a possible transfer. The transfer market in England closes at 11 p.m. local time on Friday night.‘
