Cole Palmer, Man City to Chelsea for 40 million + 5 in add ons sounds done, hopefully means they need to sell someone

Daka a much better option for CF than Origi. Good news.
Cornet an alternative to Maatsen in his original left-wing back role?

Every time I ask about us getting a left back I am told “unlikely” or “probably not”. Personally think that’s mad but that’s the info I’ve been given.
We’ve tried v hard for Maatsen so I don’t see why we don’t seem to have an alternative there.

Sacha says VK did not talk to Origi, despite the rumours he did.

Taylor has to been given game time then and coached into the role, we can’t play a season with a makeshift left backLongsideClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 6:38 pmEvery time I ask about us getting a left back I am told “unlikely” or “probably not”. And all the talk was we had multiple offers players for every position but left back we only had Maatsen, seems very strange
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don’t know much about Daka so did the obligatory YouTube and I’m not seeing why he looks a good fit for us. That said I’m sure officianados on here know him inside out will provide stats showing why.

Maatsen starts for Chelsea, I just don't see any way we get him
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We surely must have had some encouragement from Chelsea otherwise we wouldn't be putting this much effort in trying to sign him.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 6:55 pmMaatsen starts for Chelsea, I just don't see any way we get him

Did you see Cornet play at Burnley? Surely if so, that tells you that he is no left back.

Pochetino has played Maatsen way further forward in all the games. I just don't see it, Spijed may have a point about us not blindly pursuing him though.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Remember when Dyche continued to play Mee at left back when we had Ward waiting in the wings? This is the same, give Taylor the shirt ffs.

Alongside Lesley Ugochukwu, Mason Burstow, Diego Moreira and Bashir Humphreys, whoever they are. If anything it makes me more confident of signing Maatsen.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 6:55 pmMaatsen starts for Chelsea, I just don't see any way we get him

I don’t particularly - just think some are getting ahead of themselves after a brilliant campaign last year… don’t want them to be left disappointed !JarrowClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 8:12 pmWhy do you care what other fans think it is just an opinion right or wrong we all have 1 and we are all entitled to have 1.

If Maatsen isn’t seen as a full back at Chelsea, he’s got a hell of a job on starting for Chelsea beyond the Carabao Cup.
Their wide/attacking midfield options at the end of this window appear to be:
Sterling
Chukwuemeka
Mudryk
Madueke
Nkunku
Moreira
Palmer

You do have to admire what Brighton have achieved in the last 10 years. The blueprint to follow it would seem.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
If we follow their blueprint where are we going to get half a billion quid from?

I was meaning in terms of the way they have bought and then sold players for huge profits along with the way they play. Their recruitment of managers and their scouting system also appear to be excellent.
I’m not privy to their accounts, but from afar it seems to me that they get a lot of things right when other clubs, some of whom have spent much more, seemingly don’t.

Because he's not been very good after a long term injury a couple of years ago.

if Ekdal is a long term injury surely we go get THB on loan, he's available and knows the system inside out

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We’re already a third of the way there since Kompany started.
Anyway, Brighton have never had a window like ours. Their record is a net £80m or so, they invested a lot initially in the PL, but not to the extent we just have, and on young players, which matches our model, but overall looking at their purchases and sales they have been in profit for several years with net spending for the few years before that but not to the extent we just have.
We clearly aspire to their model of selling at big profits every year, but I don’t see anything unreachable in how they have done it vs us.

He should also have a good understanding with Trafford, in light of their England U21 playing time together..Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 10:21 pmif Ekdal is a long term injury surely we go get THB on loan, he's available and knows the system inside out

I echo what was posted earlier. If Ekdal is injured long term, surely it makes sense for all parties for THB to return.

Think we will definitely aim for a CB loan now. THB seems an obvious choice but seems to be a few in the queue for him.

At the moment based on our published accounts we are roughly half a billion pounds away from the Brighton model given we have not posted any losses !

Brighton absolutely haemorrhage money, have done for years
£500 million of debt, mainly to Bloom
The club doesn’t own the ground or training facilities and pay rent on them both but all 3 are owned by a parent company
Bloom has a very good network of people who find players for Brighton but he has put big money into that network that isn’t billed to the club
