Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don’t understand why we’ve bid for Summerville. This fascination with wingers is bizarre.

Origi probs fancies his chances of being starting striker for us, was for forest awoniyi has started well so he’s very much first choicewarksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:20 amDont underestimate the Belgian link with Vinny. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
In his debut for the national team, world cup in Brazil, he was 19 years old and people(not me) preferred him over Lukaku who was on fire at Everton back then. The coach started him the first games until big Rom made the statement against USA by getting the win.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:08 amAs someone who has seen little of Origi over his whole career is he a lot better than his record suggests ?
He was always very technical very natural. Takes a ball with ease can dribble can score. His father Mike Origi was a good striker for Genk back in the 90's, early 2000. Son Divock therefore played at Genk youth after following Eden Hazard's footsteps going to Lille, also a club known to develop young players. He's been always a great talent. Can do anything on the ball.
At Liverpool, actually a too big step for him, he was trusted by Klopp as a lucky charm kind of striker, coming in from the bench and scoring the most important clutch goals.
This has done his career no good. He should have gone from Lille to a club where the team is built around him so he could develop as a player. What we're seeing now is a super talented player that never really ripened, never really played 40-50 games in a season, you can say wasted talent.
Raw talent that Kompany could mold. If he would play often he could find some stability, get more connections with his teammates, make the runs. Seems like a good move. He's played and excelled at the very highest level before. Still has his best years ahead of him. If the will is there to perform and improve...
Would definitely make us alot stronger. Another technically gifted player. Good headers too.

Summerville was likely one of the alternatives to Tresor.
I thought £20m was a more than fair offer for him.

Cole Palmer signed for Chelsea for £42m.
Why has he made that move? Any ideas?

Cheers for that. I remember him coming off the bench at Liverpool (just as you say Klopp used him) and scoring a very late winner against Everton possibly in the cup but that maybe as far as my knowledge of him goes.Anthonini wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:32 amIn his debut for the national team, world cup in Brazil, he was 19 years old and people(not me) preferred him over Lukaku who was on fire at Everton back then. I presume this bid was lodged when Tresor got cold feet.
But IF we are after another winger then I wouldn't be surprised to see Clarke from Sunderland now that he has let it be known he is unhappy with them.

Surely we don't need another winger if we get Tresor. Or is Benny off?

Didn't Origi come off the bench in the game against Liverpool at Anfield which we won and was clean through and hit the bar with a golden chance to give them the lead ?

He's probably best known for the two goals against Barcelona to win the CL semi final after they were 3-0 down from the first leg.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He started that game, got subbed off for Salah just before the hour mark.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:44 amDidn't Origi come off the bench in the game against Liverpool at Anfield which we won and was clean through and hit the bar with a golden chance to give them the lead ?

My thought also. Different style to Johnson but they could easily change to 4-4-2 and that is a dangerous front 2.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:37 amEspecially if they sell Johnson, he's almost guaranteed a start.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Big respect and credit to Alan Pace and the Board.
They have completely turned the club around with the very clever appointment of VK and their total unwavering backing of him.
We are negotiating and signing high quality players. Tresor and Origi etc..Spending £100 million already this window showing a massive sign of intent, something completely alien to my 62 years as a Claret.
AP & VK...the perfect combination.

Tresor and Origi are great if they happen but irrelevant compared to more pressing problem. I’m still petrified we will go through the season without a left back. Please sign one.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Athletic report on Cole Palmer to Chelsea suggesting he was ready to join us on a season long loan last month, deal was all set up but they’d just sold Mahrez so they were holding on.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Interesting article on the Athletic about Tresor yesterday, “I have always been a No 10 by nature,” Tresor told Transfermarkt in March. “I have always had this altruistic nature, this vision of the game, to serve my team-mates.”. Tresor sees himself as a No 10, but that didn’t stop him from racking up the goals and assists from the left wing last season. “Playing as a left-winger but still having this freedom to come inside and ask for the ball, that’s where I can bring the most to the team,” he told Eleven Sports. Starting on the left, Tresor often roamed inside when the ball was on the other side of the pitch, looking to overload the central areas and offer himself as a passing option.SalouClaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:57 amTresor won't be playing on the wing, and Benson has signed a new contract.

Plus selling him is good for City in regards to FFP
In all fairness to Poch, he will probably give Palmer more of a chance

But, and a big but, we still have to acquire players that will not just make a profit, but will help us stay in the Premier league. That minor detail seems to have got lost a bit.Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 10:07 amI suspect already peaked would be a valid reason. Pointless just buying players to sell on at a profit if we get relegated this season.
