Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Sky sports saying Maatsen deal done with a 31.5 mil buy clause
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Probably cause of how he’s been getting some minutes with them. Might have turned his head a bit and think he’s a bit above us now (kinda understandable)… but I hope not. He’s got a fan base here that back him and manager who showed how much he can develop him.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 3:40 pmSurely it’s only the obligation part Maatsen is bothered about, he will want to be able to have options open in the summer to go back to Chelsea or sign elsewhere if we don’t stay up, after the year Maatsen had with us and he now doesn’t want to sign we shouldn’t of waited till deadline day for him

You might well be right, would of thought his mindset of coming on for last 10min of games for Chelsea doesn’t really mean anythingRVclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 3:42 pmProbably cause of how he’s been getting some minutes with them. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I doubt VK won't have been speaking to Maatsen regularly over the summer.
I would imagine the question marks are from the start of the season, where he was saying the right things about trying to get into the Chelsea team.
It'll be all agreed, I have no doubt, just the fee that was the issue.

Gone worryingly quiet on Trezor, given he was supposedly having a medical at 9am

The expectation is Ian Maatsen will choose to stay at #Chelsea, despite the deal agreed with Burnley.

Would have been nice of him to tell Vinny at the start of the transfer window.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 3:44 pmThe expectation is Ian Maatsen will choose to stay at #Chelsea, despite the deal agreed with Burnley.

Yes I must of! He's a modern attacking fullback who not the best defender. He's still young and can improve. If you want a full back that does both they cost a lot of money. He's going to be the best we get at our level, footballing and financially as well.

That’s pretty disappointing from him it must be said… in the sense that he’s clearly given us false impressions.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 3:44 pmThe expectation is Ian Maatsen will choose to stay at #Chelsea, despite the deal agreed with Burnley.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Maatsen played pre-season & has been in the squad, getting a few mins from the bench in the first 3 games. You could understand him thinking he could stay and battle for a place in that Chelsea team.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We also agreed a deal for Lokonga and look how that turned out.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I take your point and I’m with you on cost but I’m not actually sure that there is you know. Elite left backs, or those with elite potential, I can’t think of too many anymore.StayingDown4Ever wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 3:34 pmI liked him but there is surely better around for that sort of money.
It’s another massive gamble of course but if he continues his rate of progression then there is yet another one of our players that could easily go for 50m + in future.
(If he signs)

Maatsen has 12 months left on his contract, if he joins us on loan for the season how can they sell him for any money let alone 31m surley he becomes a free

If Maatsen and his agent have lead us on all summer then it’s one of them things but after orsic I didn’t expect us to hang around for anyone

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The thought of going through a PL season with Al-Dakhil and Vitinho as our two main left backs, assuming CT is out of the picture, concerns me.

Maatsen isn’t going to start many/any PL games for Chelsea this season.
If he’s happy with that, good luck to him.

Things change quickly in football. Maybe recently he fancies his chances at Chelsea?
On twitter lots of Chelsea fans are calling for him to stay.
The Chelsea fans are slating Cucurella's performance midweek, and want Maatsen ahead of him.

Series 2 of Mission to Burnley will be a corker won't it...
The Maatsen news over the past 20 minutes is like when VAR belatedly cancels your 90th minute winner! Poor on Maatsen's part if we've wasted the summer in a pointless pursuit of him!

I'm really surprised with the fact that he was pretty much our only LB target the whole summer and we found out on the last day that he is not interested in coming back. Hopefully there is an alternative.

Sounds like his agent is playing hardball. Also, my guess is that the fee put about by Chelsea includes a 1 year loan fee.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Nearly fell off my chair when I read we’d agreed £31.5m. Safe to say the guaranteed fee is considerably less. Regardless, I’ve been told it’s still looking more likely than not he remains at Chelsea.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
If he’s happy to be a bench warmer, then ******** to him.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
My only disappointment this window will be if we pinned all our hopes on Maatsen and end up with just Taylor as a recognised LB

I don't think he is reluctant to move. I think he wants to move.
It is more likely that personal terms have not yet been agreed between BFC and Maatsen. That can be sorted.

Surely we must have spoken to both Maatsen AND his agent before entering negotiations with Chelsea and received favourable feedback regarding a permanent move.
Wonder why a change of mind so late in the day

Reports that he is reluctant to come here may well be true. But it could also be his agent trying to get the best personal terms he can. Particularly if there is some truth in him being unsure.
Similar thing happened last night with Tresor.

Hope it's all just speculation, as like you said why would Chelsea publicly say they've agreed to let Maatsen leave (unless they are trying to force him to move)
