If this story about Maatsen is true ie he doesn't want to come and the fee would be £31m then he can do one and bugger off to West Ham.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Or perhaps considering the late hournwe could just loan him with no future purchase conditions? That may suit all parties, although probably Chelsea least of all.Spiral wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 7:51 pmIf the Maatsen deal is loan with a buy obligation then it could be a case of Maatsen not being keen on signing for god knows how much, knowing that in the event of relegation next summer, having just spent god knows how much on him in June we'd probably be unlikely to let him move to a prem club that same window. This was my theory with the Coulibaly deal. Player doesn't want to be tied to the potential of Championship football, something that is more likely if the fee is paid next summer. There's less flexibility, little room for manoeuvre for the player. I think it makes a difference if the fee is paid now, because after a (hopefully decent) season in the prem, if we're relegated we'd probably be more willing to sell than if we'd just paid whatever fee a few weeks prior to any potential sale.

If he thinks he is good enough for Chelsea fair enough which is why I stated personal reasons.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 7:42 pmthe guy literally went around and fed 5 families in Burnley on Christmas day last year. The only criticism here would be pointed at us if we don't have a plan B

Isn't it only an obligation if we stay up? I'd be stunned if we were having to pay such a large wedge out having been relegated. Can't see us arranging a deal like thar.Spiral wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 7:51 pmIf the Maatsen deal is loan with a buy obligation then it could be a case of Maatsen not being keen on signing for god knows how much, knowing that in the event of relegation next summer, having just spent god knows how much on him in June we'd probably be unlikely to let him move to a prem club that same window. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
VK said yesterday that we are looking at two kinds of signings. Those to make a first team impact straight away and those underneath that as part of the next generation. I'd suggest Massengo is in the latter category.
Sadly doesn't look like we were successful in the attempt to get Kalvin Phillips. He has turned down other opportunities too. A season on the bench for him awaits. What a waste.

I don't know if its the money or just a reluctance to leave Man City and give up on the chance of playing for the best team in the world.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:05 pmIs it a case of overpaid players not willing to take a cut?
I'd imagine it would be structured so he'd still get his money so must be the latter.

I don't think there's any way Chelsea would agree to a deal where we are only obliged to pay on the condition of survival, because Maatsen is out of contract next season so they'd only get tribunal compensation (which is miniscule compared to a transfer fee) if we get relegated and he moves away next summer.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:00 pmIsn't it only an obligation if we stay up? I like KP but he’s behind Rice for England and Rodri for City. He needs to get his head in gear and start playing football.
Unless he’s happy taking the wedge at City and picking up gongs for sitting on the bench and a Summer at the WC/EC every2 years.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
99.9% sure it is for PL clubs. EFL clubs can loan for a while longer, but not PL. I think the logic is that the EFL get the players the PL clubs can't fit in their named squad lists when the dust has all settles on the transfer window proper.Selby Claret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:10 pmDoes the loan window shut tonight as well?

Well today hasn't really gone to plan has it.
Hoped for 4 , currently stands at zilch. Has Tresor left on a jet plane or still haggling with us down to the wire? At 3 hours to go you'd have to doubt us getting it over the line.
Really don't know what to make of this bigger than envisaged summer rebuild whatever transpires by 11pm. It worked marvellously last season, but serious questions about what the plan is here. Exciting for sure but worrying given the early results and fixture list!

I think Massengo could be a regular feature in the short to medium term. He’s very highly rated and by all accounts was outstanding for Auxerre.forzagranata wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:01 pmVK said yesterday that we are looking at two kinds of signings. Shame that Southgate didn't leave him out of the England squad citing that he needs to be playing regularly to be picked. Although if that had been the case, I'm sure bigger fish than us would have tempted him.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:11 pmI like KP but he’s behind Rice for England and Rodri for City. I’m going to go out on a limb here by suggesting that Massengo will quickly become a terrific signing for us. My reason for this is because a close friend of mine is a Bristol City season ticket holder who reckons this lad is class and was gutted to see him leave. I wouldn’t normally take these opinions too seriously, but he knows his stuff, attends every game, and he was very quick to identify Alex Scott as a serious talent a few years ago way before anyone else!forzagranata wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:01 pmVK said yesterday that we are looking at two kinds of signings. It goes without saying that there are no guarantees, but I would rather take his opinion over some journalist who watched him on YouTube.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Haven't written him off but not having expectations he will be the player we turn to keeping us in the PL. I repeat he has development potential for the future but not as a first team choice in the PL this season.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There's no way Chelsea do a season long loan without him signing a contract. It's possible he misses a move this window and goes somewhere in the January window on a permanent, but either way Chelsea will be desperate to get some money for him if he decides against signing a new contract. If we don't get him he'll be on the fringes of the Chelsea squad for a few months then everything will be reassessed. This suits Maatsen personally to a degree, because he might break into the squad between now and then, and the worst case scenario is by January he's in the same situation as he is now.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:17 pmMaatsen to Southampton to join THB on loan when he doesnt make the Chelsea squad

There's not one single player in our squad I can think of where you'd say we 'turn to him' to keep us up. Our most talented player, Benny, had an absolute stinker against Villa, and a player some had written off, Foster, has been easily our best player at these early stages of the season.LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:22 pmHaven't written him off but not having expectations he will be the player we turn to keeping us in the PL. The solution has to be a release clause in the event of relegation that covers our costs but we don’t lose money, or a Weghorst-style loan arrangement. That could be the best compromise for all parties but at present it is all bluff and double bluff.

Sky reporting Maatsen deal agreed.
Loan with obligation to buy.
Loan with obligation to buy.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don't think it's as simple as that. If it's a loan with a buy obligation as reported then this has the potential to really bind Maatsen to Championship football if it all goes wrong. If the deal between the clubs was arranged differently, this might've affected Maatsen's decision. So I highly doubt it's a case of him simply not wanting to come to us. It's more complicated than that.

It’s also alright saying fair play to Maatsen got thinking he can break into the Chelsea team and fight for his place but he literally isn’t going to play, soon as window closes he will be lucky to make the match day squads. As much as cucurella hasn’t been good for Chelsea he will be in match day squads over maatsen
