Chelsea youngster Ian Maatsen is set to stay at Stamford Bridge and sign a new contract after turning down a potential move to Burnley.
Not one for the Romantics. For those who doubt his defensive qualities if won’t make any difference

That would be the same Peter "clickbait' O'Rourke that was one of the first to post he was coming?

Also: https://twitter.com/Matt_Law_DT/status/ ... 17397?s=20
I reckon I could have posted he wasn’t coming an hour before the window closed after an afternoon of reports that he wasn’t coming.

How sad is it that a player who achieved unbelievable highs with us last season & winning the league, would rather sit on his arse n play 10 - 15 minutes if he is lucky every week at Chelsea! Everything that is wrong in the game stands here with this non move.

Disappointing from both Maatsen and the club really. Obviously the recent minutes have got to his head and he thinks he’s a level above us. Doubt he starts a game all season and Palmer will now take his place as that attacking sub.

Why did we not ask Maatsen … do u want to sign for Burnley. A month ago.
What when he was starting for Chelsea on the pre season tour or on the bench and coming on in the Premier league. Or was it his when his manager publicly said he liked him and would be part of the squad?

For what’s it’s worth, I’m sort of glad we didn’t commit to a £30m potential spend on Maatsen. Nonsense fee.

I am though naffed off that we’ve not had the wherewithal to get an alternative on board. VK has said the biggest advantage of going up so early was recruitment planning. We’ll come to regret this LB situation, I think.

Looking worrying for the LB position.

Gathered hours ago Maatsen wasn't going to come, but was hoping we might have had some other targets that we moved on to.
With less than an hour to go, I can't see it.

The only frustrating thing in the Maatsen non deal, is the fact we have waited til an hour before the window to get an answer from him in if he wants to come here.

If he doesn’t want to be here… f*** him. Let him rot on Chelsea’s bench.

There’ll be another player up VKs sleeve no doubt, might just have to wait til January to see who it is.

…..maybe he isn’t taking the easy option and wants to fight for his place at a top 6 club.

So looking like the Tresor tweet with the aeroplane does mean he came, he saw, he flounced off home again?

A nowt doing deadline day. It's hard to be too downcast when we have spent tens of millions this window, but we really have our work cut out this season i fear!

Chelsea have been an absolute basket case over the last couple of seasons, it’s no surprise he’s struggled. He showed good ability at Brighton

As disappointing as it is, I don’t blame Maatsen at all for wanting to stay at Chelsea. Let’s not be like Coventry fans.

He could well be more than a bit part player this season and still has a huge future ahead of him.

Altogether now
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best
And
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life
If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that's the thing
And
Always look on the bright side of life
(Come on)
Always look on the right side of life
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin
Give the audience a grin
Enjoy it, it's your last chance anyhow
So always look on the bright side of death
A just before you draw your terminal breath
Life's a piece of ****
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughin' as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you
And
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life
(C'mon Brian, cheer up)
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the bright side of life
I mean, what have you got to lose?
You know, you come from nothing
You're going back to nothing
What have you lost? Nothing
Always look on the right side of life
Nothing will come from nothing, ya know what they say
Cheer up ya old bugga c'mon give us a grin (Always look on the right side of life)
There ya are, see
It's the end of the film
Incidentally this record's available in the foyer (Always look on the right side of life)
Some of us got to live as well, you know
(Always look on the right side of life)
Who do you think pays for all this rubbish
(Always look on the right side of life)
They're not gonna make their money back, you know
I told them, I said to him, Bernie, I said they'll never make their money back
(Always look on the right side of life :D

But it won’t give us balance. We will have to completely change our entire set up to accommodate him.

Our left back has to be able to play the ball. Taylor just simply can’t do that. If he can’t do that then we have to put players around him to accommodate this.

Another poster highlighted the difference the keepers have to make when Taylor plays. Let alone the outfield players.

Delcroix will more than likely start

I’d absolutely start Taylor against Spurs. He’s better than Vitinho at left back for a start.

Vinny won’t play him, though.

I’m reminding myself that Al Dakhil is quicker than Maatsen (yes) and also stronger. If he ends up in that role as a stand in once Beyer and Ekdal are fit, that isn’t a disaster. Vitinho can also fill in as can Delcroix.

I’m 100% sure that if Kompany didn’t have alternatives within the squad he would have a Plan B to bring in come what may.

It’s not that weird. You don’t tend to like the players we do sign, but seem to really like the ones we don’t go after or miss out on.
I have been overly positive about all of our signings this window what are you on about?

How sad is it that a player who achieved unbelievable highs with us last season & winning the league, would rather sit on his arse n play 10 - 15 minutes if he is lucky every week at Chelsea! Everything that is wrong in the game stands here with this non move.
Or believes in his ability, why is he in the wrong he’d rather stay at a huge London club and prove himself worth a place?

Keep reading this ********, we sound like an ex

Maatsen is a young man. Why shouldn't he give it a shot at a top 6 club. He has time on his side and can always move on in couple of years if it doesn't work out. Amazing people get wound up over a player not signing for us and then they suddenly they become poor players or @rseholes. He was great for us last year in one of our best seasons in years. Thanks Ian and good luck.

But Taylor can defend as a left back. I don't care about the system. Charlie is better at left back the the guy that come in. Roberts on the right an Charlie on left gives us balance.

Would not be a window without one or two disappointments. Just hope Maatsen has not strung Vinnie along, which may indicate why we have not closed in on many of the LB's suggested in last few months

Have a feeling someone close to Maatsen may have told him he is better than he is. I also have a feeling Chelsea will find it tough this season, and as a result there will be a ruthfulness about their selection. I cannot see him keeping a squad place

Apparantly we couldn’t agree personal terms with Maatsen

In a spectacular example of being unable to read the room, a Spanish football team is signing Mason Greenwood. Just what they need over there at the moment.
