I enjoy posts like these about Maatsen.
Do point us out a viable alternative please.

Maatsen had a superb season. Granted he probably would have struggled in a Dyche back four but his dynamism and skill gave us a real edge. He has a great future hopefully with us

I don't even think people know what they're watching in front of them.
The amount of defence splitting passes Maatsen does a game that completely carves a team open is staggering
He also defends more 1vs1 in open space compared to his predecessors
Wonderful talent; we should be doing all that we can to sign him permanently

He's also been doing the inverted defender position everyone has been raving about Stones doing recently.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 5:34 pmI don't even think people know what they're watching in front of them.

Those criticising Maatsen should be made to watch a mark winstanley 'highlights' reel on a continuous loop.
Maatsen is already a very very accomplished player and with the potential he still harbours I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't spend the bulk of his career at premier league level.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The frailties in his defending can be improved and coached as he is an intelligent footballer. I saw his defending improve up until the last 3 to 4 games. One of the problems he has is his spacial awareness ie when him and the player he is marking are in open space and the opposition try to find this player with an aerial ball. Having said this his attacking play more than makes up for it, giving us a very much overall gain. Some of his assists, passing and goals have been sensational and he has genuine pace too.His goal at QPR when he hit it first time from the goal keepers parry, was the quality of a talented striker-no hesitation from him when he struck it. Would love to see him leave Chelsea and join us
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Roberts and Maatsen are playing as inverted full backs, what John Stones did today wasn't an inverted full back.
I don't even think there's a name for the role he's currently playing.
When he plays full back it's similar but today and the last few matches haven't been from full back
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I never said John Stones played as an inverted full back today. I haven't said anything about what position John Stones played today. What I am saying is that Roberts, Maatsen and Stones have all played a similar role at times this season. The principal being that a defender comes inside to increase numbers in midfield. Relating back to the discussion re Maatsen - he's been very good at that.bumba wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 6:21 pmRoberts and Maatsen are playing as inverted full backs, what John Stones did today wasn't an inverted full back.

He's been very good when attacking, when he's come in to central midfield he's been quite sloppy and weakPickles wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 6:28 pmI never said John Stones played as an inverted full back today. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Apparently we are keen, along with West Ham, on Habib Diallo from Strasbourg, though they might ask for £20m. VK went to watch him recently. That’s if we miss out on Gyokeres.
Also BPF back to Sheff Weds could be on the cards and we want 2 new keepers, one being Ipswich’s Vaclav Hladky (was impressed with him when we played them).

I really don’t want Gykores. That Diallo is one of the top scorers in France ain’t he? I’d prefer him.

Apparently, "hybrid" is the in word for the role that Stones plays - they used it a few times yesterday

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
This is the trap a lot of people in this country get sucked in to. They believe in the ‘best league in the world’ and there’s a lot of English snobbery on the rest of Europe. Most top leagues in Europe have an absolute top quality team, that then gives the illusion that the rest of the league is poor, which isn’t the case at all. It’s just that the top team are absolute top quality. It’s even happening in this country with City. France has PSG, Spain you have Barca, real. Germany you have Bayern etc…Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 9:37 amI mean the championship has literally two teams.

The likes of Lyon, Nice, Marseille, Monaco, lens, Lille would easily hold their own in the PL.
The likes of Sevilla did the double over United this season after having a poor season in La Liga by their standards and United finished 3rd.
Anyway, back to transfers. I would like Diallo over Gykores if I had the choice.
