Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.

I'd like to think we've asked Maitland-Niles if he fancies it.

Onana is doing his best to relegate Everton
He has put in a string of half hearted performances and is a complete waste of space
Contrast with Dwight who has delivered some stellar performances.

I read an article linking Eden Hazard too. May just be fantasy, and I can't recall where I found it, but it has indeed been suggested.

To a very average performance level at a lower ability level than the PL.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 12:58 pmVitinho has played both full back roles, both wings and even as part of a midfield 3 this season

I'm surprised we didn't get relegated with them 2 in the team.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 2:52 pmAdd me to that thought.I’m still not a Muric fan also.

Right and what’s your point, I was just stating how regardless of what league you are in, it’s always good have players capable of playing multiple positions, John O’Shea made a pretty good career at united being a utility playerJakubs Tash wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 2:22 pmTo a very average performance level at a lower ability level than the PL.

Maatsen has had some tremendous games but far too many poor games for me to think he can cut it in the PL.Walkerpool wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 2:59 pmI'm surprised we didn't get relegated with them 2 in the team.
Muric has made very few WOW saves and has been beaten too often without making an attempt. Either his positioning is poor or his reflexes.
Only opinions.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Off on a tangent but it's mind boggling to me how anyone can have watched this season and not rated Muric. There's a strong argument to say no-one has been more pivotal in terms of the core principal of the way we play than he has - possibly Cullen too. But hey, it's a transfer and rumours thread.

His ball playing has never been in doubt. Some of his "traditional" goalkeeping was questionable early in the season but I think there's been a very big improvement there.Pickles wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 3:24 pmOff on a tangent but it's mind boggling to me how anyone can have watched this season and not rated Muric. I thought you were suggesting that there would be no need for likes of Milner because we already have someone (Vitinho) to fulfil the utility role. My mistake.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 3:07 pmRight and what’s your point, I was just stating how regardless of what league you are in, it’s always good have players capable of playing multiple positions, John O’Shea made a pretty good career at united being a utility player

Think you're talking a different level of player comparing Vitinho with John O'Shea.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Mentioned already Maitland-Niles would be a superb signing for that utility role. Deep midfield, a tad further forward, right midfield, right back. Strong lad, twenty-five, with Premier League experience. I'd love to think we've made some sort of approach.

Maitland-Niles makes a ton of sense but I’m gonna guess that his wages will be a big issue.
Plenty of good young European talent out there -trick is finding them.
Look at how many players come through Benfica/Red Bull system/Genk that are playing their trade at the top level now - them teams (excluding English clubs) literally supply half of Europe with players- especially Benfica & the RB system.
For an example:
We have more resource than Genk when in the PL, shows how imperative having a thorough scouting network & in-depth analytics department is and I’m very happy that the club is prioritising these avenues rather than signing obvious names

I saw Genk at Cork City in the EL, 2016. Leon Bailey played and so did Leandro Trossard, Wilfred Ndidi and Neeskens Kebano. Fabulous side.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 4:40 pm:

Ryan Kent mentioned earlier, according to the word on the street in Glasgow is a done deal. Free transfer, OOC and will be on 40k a week.
Not sure how I feel about this, can be good on his day but is also inconsistent. Also feel that we are generally well stocked for wide positions but could be a good signing.

Ryan Kent is pap.we have better already in the squad. He’s one of these players who tries to look all fancy then fluffs his lines at the last minute. There’s little end product with him.

We’d just about completed the Young deal two years ago but then Villa came in. Some negativity on here towards it but I think he’d have been an excellent signing for us.

Do you not think that Milner would have been a good Dyche signing as Young would have been?

English, 26 year old, European experience, big game experience, played well for rangers until recently and if a player isn’t signing a new deal fans usually turn on players. To me on a free transfer he’s a no brainer

Dyche was also interviewed at Rangers but they could not afford the Burnley package that he was still being paid. Kent wanted £40k a week but Rangers couldn't afford it.
Who would have thought in the 80's this would have been the case?

Some of the press coverage up there of Kent isn't the most complimentary at the moment...

Absolutely but wasn’t available when Dyche was here. I think he could be a good Kompany signing too.Intoclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 5:42 pmDo you not think that Milner would have been a good Dyche signing as Young would have been?

.We already have Obafemi that downed tools, and personally I don’t think he’s Premier League standard ,do we need another one whose done the same ,even though he may be a free transfer?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The thing is with Kent we already have Zaroury, Benson, JBG, And Vitinho who are all better players than him.
Let’s be honest here Rangers in the modern football world are pretty small fry. If Kent was any good he’d have been picked up by now and playing in the EPL already.
Iv watched him play a lot and I’ll nail it down here right now he isn’t up to the championship level never mind premier league level. Just think Steve Jones and your close to what Kent is.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Ryan Kent tore Dortmund to bits last year. To compare him to Steve Jones is not fair to the lad at all. Intermittent end product perhaps, but we have a lack of wide options after Benny and Zaroury, as has been evidenced recently. We probably need two wingers with Churlinov leaving.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Vitinho on the left wing isn’t even Championship standard let alone Prem. The others you mentioned don’t play left wing except Zaroury, it’s a position we’ve lacked back up with Churlinov not fancied.Shaggy wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 6:34 pmThe thing is with Kent we already have Zaroury, Benson, JBG, And Vitinho who are all better players than him.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
If Kent signs, he'll be on a Free transfer and on reasonable wages ( by Premier League standards ). Given what VK has done so far, I'm happy to trust him on this one
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Might have been a nutter ,but he’s never been accused of not trying unlike the comments about the players mention above.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We’ve always got Johann as a good back up,can’t remember the match, but quite early on in the season, and we weren’t winning, and VK took Benny off ,and brought him on ,and his crosses won us the match .jedi_master wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 6:41 pmRyan Kent tore Dortmund to bits last year. He's two footed.......it's a start.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
You think Kent is just a left winger? He’s been played across the 3 advanced midfielder positions, Left, Right and Centre.
Vitinho is better than Kent no question about it, as are our other players. He has very little end product and that’s playing in a poor league where the majority of the sides have League 1 standard players.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Out of 88 appearances in all comps in the past two seasons he’s played on the left wing in 83 of them. I think it’s safe to call him a left winger.Shaggy wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 6:06 amYou think Kent is just a left winger? It appears that despite all the evidence that the manager and his wider recruitment team have a real eye for a player, we are questioning their first target of the summer.
It’s going to be a long few months.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Agree with all these points.
When Zaroury has been going through a poor run of form he has had to play through it instead of having the luxury of being rested like other players. Hopefully we are looking to bring in at least two new wingers this summer.
Vitinho on either side of midfield/attack isn'd Champ standard. He's cover full back at best and that's it.
Of course some players have come down from the SPL and ben excellent in the EPL. Who knows if Kent can make the grade or not? However, after watching the usual YouTube clips of Kent, what struck me the most was how two-footed he was - he could strike the ball comfortably with either foot. He made it look natural and easy for him to do so which a lot of professional footballers struggle with. As others have said, if he's good enough for the manager then that's good enough for me. A no brainer at 26 years old and on a free.
