When you are getting old there are two things that happen to you.
The first thing is your memory goes.
And I've forgotten what the second thing is

I have just reached 70. My first game was when my Dad took me to see Burnley play West Ham in September 1964. We sat in the old Brunshaw Road stand and Burnley won 3-2. I think I saw Ray Pointer score his last goal for Burnley.

69. Doesn't time fly when you're enjoying things?
I'm old enough to have seen the good, bad and downright ugly with the Clarets.
Good; well right now is pretty good but for me that was when we had "SuperCasp" up front in that team of the early 70s.
Bad; any relegation year was pretty bad and there were lots of them.
Downright ugly; the Orient Match is now viewed as a major success but the games that led up to that day were bloody awful and for me coming out of Gresty Road following that 1-0 loss to Crewe, was possibly the low point.

I’m 60, so that makes one of the youngest on this thread! Born in Bank Hall in 1962, moved away in 1980, but always a Burnley fan.

Re: How many old 'uns/over 60's post on here?
The OP asks for replies from over-60s so just about all comments are from over 60s saying how old they are- thus looks like an almost exclusively oldies board. Perhaps there should be another thread asking how many are under 60 and then compare the numbers. It cant be concluded from here that the big majority are over 60 (though that may be the case).
Re: How many old 'uns/over 60's post on here?
Expecting a load of trombones on Saturday. Started watching the Clarets mid 50's when winter games kicked off early as there were no floodlights. Thought Colin Mcdonald was the best goalkeeper of his time and had a soft spot for St Mirren after Peter Mckay was transferred in 1957. Lots of other memories but just as many forgotten. Roll on next season!

Southern bases Claret fan for 55 years loved the teams in the 70’s
Had no reason to be a Claret no relatives or connections with the town. But once you support a team it’s in your blood.
Was at Bristol City to see Manuels latest goal.
Lived in Ireland for 6 years and it was easier to get to Turf Moor then than it is from Chichester.

I’m 64. Live at the top of the Lakes now but used to travel to the Turf from Keighley then Leeds. First game November 1971 v Middlesbrough. Won 5-2 and been going ever since through thin and thinner.
Post virtually nothing but read the board every day. Still go regularly.

Hey bud,if you’d been a few days older we wouldn’t have been in the same year. Seems a long time since Beaumont, Grocott and the like were hitting us with sticks and trainers. Can still see the shock on Beaumonts face when I came second in the school cross country once. I wonder who came first (do you still run mate).

Twitter is noise for the most part.
Re: How many old 'uns/over 60's post on here?
I had to mentally work out how old I was ! Seventy six years was the answer and a claret for about 63 years of that total ( no team before that.) I come on this board for a 'read'most days and to keep up to date as best I can with everything Burnley. I am pleased to see that we are now getting publicity in America. I live 110 miles from the Turf and now find it difficult to get to more than a couple of games a season but I still get that feeling of anticipation just prior to kick off. This site reflects the 'times' and has matured a lot over the years so that there is no homophobic or racist comments that were so common. and awful, not too long ago. Regrettably we still get blasphemous comments which I find upsetting especially when you read a post and the offence comes without any warning. Why do some posters find it necessary? It spoils the site for me especially when it is 'copied' and reappears for several posts before fading out.
Re: How many old 'uns/over 60's post on here?
The next question should be, how many of you over 60’s are Bob Lorders to reinforce the stereotyping on this board? I am a Bob Lorder of almost 20 years. Prior to that I was a Cricket Field season ticket holder.

Could be a tight race.
If nobody over 85 shows up, depends on which month Lanky was born.
I'll settle for a draw with the first match in 45, don't know which month it was my grandad took me on.
By the way, my mum and dad bought me my first season ticket in 1954 and apart from two years national sevice, I've had one every year 'til the pandemic.

Re: How many old 'uns/over 60's post on here?
I forget to mention that my first Burnley game was away at Tottenham in the 3rd Round of the Fa Cup in March 1966.
We lost 4 - 3 with Willie Irvine scoring a hat trick for the Clarets and Alan Gilzean scoring a hat trick for Spurs.
For some reason I was actually standing in the away end and on my own. I was only 15 and was taking the pi55 out of the Spurs fans whenever we scored and they did likewise whenever they scored. And no trouble at all.
What a great game to start my Burnley supporting days.

I am as my mum would say as old as my tongue but a bit older than my teeth
First game Arseholes 1 Burnley 0 in August 19th 1950 on the Turf with my Dad
ST holder since 1987 once kids old enough to be brainwashed into watching regularly- getting ready for my 80th later this year
At my age, for me at least, waking up is exciting because 1) you are still here but 2) the sheer excitement in finding out which part of your body will be aching today can’t be beaten and 3) being able to recall what ached yesterday has to be the biggest plus.

My birthday is in March. I cannot remember whom Burnley played but the star man around that time was an outside right/right winger called Tommy Gardener. Seem to remember that Burnley played in white shirts and black shorts. Must have run short of coupons. You certainly beat me on season tickets I have had a few but left Burnley in 1972 for employment reasons.Gerry Hattrick wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 10:24 pmby mkmel » Wed May 03, 2023 10:17 am
