Who predicted this?
After tonight’s result we would only have needed 83 points to be promoted ,who predicted that?
Re: Who predicted this?
82 points with our goal difference
Re: Who predicted this?
Can’t be arsed ,but can someone confirm the date we had 83 points, and then I know how many weeks I was stressed for nothing.

15th March was the game we hit 83 points after thrashing Hull away. That feels like so long ago

Re: Who predicted this?
If Luton lose on Monday, we actually hit the promotion tally after the 36th match of the season on 11 March vs Wigan.
Using the same slightly flawed logic, it might also transpire that we didn’t win the title at Ewood, but at home to Sheffield United (Matchday 41) or even away at Middlesbrough (Matchday 40) when we surpassed the Blades current tally.

Re: Who predicted this?
The average number of points for a team finishing 3rd in Championship is apparently 82.8, so if Luton win on Monday then it will be pretty much in line with expectations.
Had it not been for an exceptionally good run from Luton then somewhere between 75 and 80 would have been enough, and even now 79 might be enough.
I seem to recall that this is what the "super computer" predicted a few months ago. It had Boro 3rd with as few as 74pts I think, and that's exactly what they have now.
It's been some achievement for Luton to finish 3rd, and they could yet get those 82 points. (Shame they dropped 2 on Monday night of course)

But just think how much more you would've stressed since then if we'd gone on a losing run.

Re: Who predicted this?
I posted some time ago that I thought 83 or 84 would be the absolute max we would need. I think that was around the time there were at least 15 games to play. I just used logic and looked at what the other clubs were achieving. For it to be higher than that, there would have needed to be one club from below the top two that would have needed an outstanding finish.
No team has managed that - in each teams last 14 games, us and Luton have picked up 29 points, Coventry and Sheffield United 27 and then Preston and Hudderfield have 22.

Yes, but two clubs get promoted, and no other team can get more than 82 points.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 10:56 amBut if we hadn't won another point after that, Sheffield United would've had three more

Re: Who predicted this?
Just looked back to my post on our Clarets WhatsApp group.
I remembered posting that 83 points would be enough
Having checked I posted this on the 15th March
I think 83 points will ultimately prove enough..... But we will be promoted against Sheffield United and win the title at Ewood

Re: Who predicted this?
If you look at the Hull match thread i said ‘think that’s us up, don’t think Boro will get 83 points’.

I hate to say I told you so but I told you all we were mathematically promoted even before we were mathematically promoted.

Who said in September that Sheff and Norwich were running away with the league?
