Barnes parting gift
If Ba$tards had gotten that handball penalty against us from Barnes, they’d have gotten into the playoffs they just missed out on via goal difference.
What a season!!
What a season!!

Re: Barnes parting gift
Tremendous after the game, Barnes was the last man in, doing selfies and autographs galore even though it was wazzing it down.
Nathan T had done the same before him, he was shivering and his teeth chattering.
Thanked Ash for all he's done for us and got my shirt signed so a decent end to an amazing day.

Re: Barnes parting gift
I think it’s a bit odd that some fans hatred of Rovers runs to celebrating one of our players getting away with handball in the penalty area. I’d like to think it was accidental as there was no need to do it intentionally as Muric had it fully covered behind him. But just supposing the ref had given it? Many would. Would Barnes still be a hero?

Re: Barnes parting gift
Daft question - of course he’s a claret hero. It was ball to hand in any case. No guarantee Rovers would score either. 10 years of service is not undone by a potential ball to hand penalty which could have lengthened the pain of not getting promotion again for Rovers

Nice to see his 7 kids on the pitch. His missus looks a little tired.

Re: Barnes parting gift
I’m not questioning his overall status at the club. I’m talking about a handball incident. I agree I don’t think it was intended but in what way is that heroic? And he didn’t save anything, Muric was right behind him and if it hadn’t hit Barnes arm Muric would have gathered it easily. Why celebrate that which was neither intended nor needed?Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 10:16 pmDaft question - of course he’s a claret hero. It was ball to hand in any case. Saw Ashley's first appearance in a Clarets shirt and saw his last and it's just flown by. But the in between has been so, so special!!

After seeing the Utd no handball this weekend there's no point in even looking at that again...houseboy wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 10:23 pmI’m not questioning his overall status at the club. Re: Barnes parting gift
The best thing Barnes could ever have done is score against bstrds while simultaneously shoving their goalie into the nets, gain 3 points, win the championship at Ewood and deny them a play off place all in his final season with the Clarets. Oh, and score in his final game at the Turf and lift the trophy.... Again.

Re: Barnes parting gift
I wish we’d keep him around next season, if only for the dressing room. Proper leader, you can tell the younger players look up to him
