Twines best game

Post by 123EasyasBFC » Mon May 08, 2023 8:53 pm

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned already but thought Twine was excellent today in the further forward 10 role, he got into so much space, created chances (yes a bad miss) and eventually got his free kick.

He finally looked like he knew the Kompany system and the faith Kompany has showed in him paid off.

Agree with this and meant to post. Thought he was brilliant today.

Also think he’s really toughening up. I think Vinny will take him to the PL.

There were a couple he should have done much better with. He made some great runs and some nice interplay.

Needs to work on his strength a bit but there is a player in there. Had he had a little more game time and the confidence that would have brought, he’d probably have had a hat trick today.

Just needs to improve his final ball. Got into some great positions today. Hopefully will be a good one.

The best I’ve seen him play today. Definitely a player there.

Shame he had the injuries in the first half of the season but plenty to come from him hopefully.

I’ve been saying he needed a run of games for a while, because he needed a run of games. Incidentally this was his first home league start with the full first team.

Also really enjoyed his performance today, awareness of space is very good and his use of the ball excellent.

Clearly talented and it’s a big summer ahead for him - probably needs to bulk up a bit and then smash pre-season but don’t rule him out of playing a part next season.

It was noticeable after 'that' miss, Ashley was the first to him to say something like 'Keep yer head up son'
Then after spurning a couple more decent chances, he still had the balls to take that magnificent free kick.👏👏
Needs to build up some muscle though. 😀

Sprayed three shots near enough into the top tier of the Jimmy Mc before he scored the free kick.

Loads of work needed, but he's certainly a free kick specialist.

Watching back the free-kick goal... why can't refs give something for those blatant pushes?

I thought he was really good today. Neat and tidy; had a few chances; scored a peach of a free kick.

The wall didn't do its job anyway.

It virtually brushed the hair of one Cardiff defender.

The best and most encouraging part of his game today was his link up game. The number of times Muric and the defenders found him in that central position and he was able to accurately find the third man each time meant we retained possession extremely well.

Fantastic free kick, some brilliant runs in behind, but a few instances of poor composure in front of goal from open play.

I think we’ll keep him in the squad next season.

Yes, that's true, but the question still remains.
i don't think i've ever seen such obvious pushing. perhaps they'd have done better just concentrating on forming a wall :D

he consistently gets into good positions and has done in many games but hasn't been found, he made a superb run in the first half and would have been clean through but we turned backwards and away from him. He did well today with the caveat that Cardiff were dreadful. His free kick was JWP level

Surprised to read these, I didn't think he was as good as some people are writing. Thought he and Gudmundsson flitted in and out too much. Just shows how two people can view a game differently. But still his best match for us.

Jay rod and Danny ings both had an off season where they bulked up and they came back in pre season looking strong and ready for it, that’s what twine needs

On todays showing you can see there’s one hell of a player in him

Really surprised to read this. I think he’s bulked up massively since joining us and I’ve been hugely impressed with his physicality.

There was one point in the first half in particular where he got back, got his body in front of the Cardiff player(s) and saw the ball out for a throw. Could’ve been Barnsey.

Never really feel he gets knocked off the ball at all, but obviously some more to do to be PL ready.

Better today, but I still think he's likely to go on loan to a Championship club next season.

Over the last few weeks I've said time and again that despite his slight stature and slightly weird role in the team, this lad has what it takes. He's had several very good games recently and today I agree, he was excellent. Yes he could easily have had a hat trick in the space of about 5 minutes and really should have had tbf, but I honestly believe he's more than a one trick (free kick!) pony. Lots more to come I hope.

My point wasn’t that he was weak of gets knocked off the ball. It was purely that jay rod and ings had summers where they came back bulked up and it instantly seemed to give them a lift.

He was excellent today

You do wonder about whether he can stand up to the very physical premier league, but he's come on leaps and bounds recently

And the free kick was again ridiculously good

Good performance from him today. Some wild efforts on goal before that wonderful freekick but his movement was good and he found space regularly .

He has the fight to regain possession if he’s dis-possessed but I still think he’s a little lightweight at times , maybe a bit more conditioning in the summer can help him there .

I think he will be useful next season in various roles .

My MOTM today. I thought he was superb. Full of running. Took so many balls off Muric to start the transition. Nice intricate play around the box. Linked well with the forward players around him. And a stunning free kick. Happy days

Also no surprise MK Dons went down without him

Yes, I think he’s done that a lot this season already though. He looks miles bigger than he did when he joined us and I actually think when he wasn’t playing at the start of the season it might’ve been to give him time in the gym.

I really expected him to be lightweight but he’s impressed me with how strong he’s been in recent games. Not to mention his link up play, which has been great. Not so good at the shooting today though

Outstanding today.

The best thing about his game is how direct he is, always thinking about goals. Every time he gets the ball he is thinking of how to create an assist or a goal.

We know he has finishing ability, so I put his misses down to nerves, the more he gets, the better he will be.

I noticed when he took the corner near the end, Josh Brownhill was saying "take your time" to him. People forget he's still raw at this level.

I also really liked it when he attempted those long rangers. I said before the free kick that he'd got his eye in now :D

I thought he was excellent. He is in good form, was decent at Reading, Rotherham and Bristol City and was best player on the pitch for me yesterday.

Yes, he undoubtedly should have scored a minimum of one more with the 1v1 (and possibly the chance in the first half which the keeper saved) but his all-round game was absolutely brilliant. I particularly loved the vision he showed for the through ball in the second half (forget who to, maybe Brownhill). He offers us something very different and is a different proposition with game time behind him. I think he has a part to play next season with a 9 man bench. Needs to eat a few Toby Carvery's this summer and he'll be fine.

I must admit I thought he was a bit lightweight and not up to the required level but he has come on leap and bounds over the last few games. He was excellent yesterday. I think the lack of games and probably feeling he has to try too hard to make an impact has affected his confidence. But he could be a dark horse for next season. Here's hoping. UTC.

He's improving and has real ability, the free kicks could be critical next season if he plays a part.

A long way to go yet but he will be our James Maddison type IF he develops and continues to perform.

If we can sign that 'Defour' type player who can spot Twine's great running into goalscoring positions we are going to be on to something special next season.
What we have at the moment is a player who is a free kick specialist as good as any free kick specialist in the PL at the moment.
That in itself is why I don't agree with the idea he should be loaned out , as some suggest, and I don't think the club have any intention of doing that

Knew it at the time but watching that miss on TV when Ash put him through, all he needed to do was slide it past the keeper, looks worse on TV than it did live.
Definitely a player there do I wonder if he’s ready for the prem. I think I’d looking at loaning him out to a top ten championship team where he’ll play every week, not unlike Southampton have done with Tella.
The two teams I think he’d really fit in with are Coventry & Sunderland. He needs constant game time.

For at least the next 12 months, he'll have the distinction of scoring our last goal in the Championship.
