It is bewildering that this clown is employed as a pundit. He was shocking as a manager.
At Bournemouth the night before the game he was out drinking with his hanger ons .Roeder,Cowans ,Woods etc
When Woods was asked how come he was drinking his reply was he was a goalie and didn’t have to run around much

Dark days.

He was bloody awful. Hark back to the days when "famous player" meant easy access into management. Clueless.

It’s a mercy for other clubs Waddle didn’t further pursue a management career.

Plays his whole career on the wing until he comes to Burnley and decides he's going to play the sweeper role.

At least he realised it wasn’t for him. Never even coached a team since.

He's done a lot of coaching since and is highly respected as an academy coach

I thought it was an amazing appointment at the time but it didn't bode well when Frank Teasdale announced him at the press conference as 'Chris Hoddle' then on realising his mistake tried to make out that it was a 'joke'. Well cringey. :P

I remember Stan saying that he knew and liked CW, but that he should "have never started his managerial career at somewhere like Burnley, where the expectations are huge." Or words to that effect.

He was right.

I never knew that, I know he's never dabbled in management again. And he kept on playing non-league for ages, still does a few charity matches even now.

I always liked him, not as a manager obviously, but seems a decent guy and was such a great player to watch.

One prominent member of his coaching staff liked
to frequent the Kettledrum whereby he would regularly ask bemused regulars where did they think Waddle
and his staff were going wrong

The other disappointment about Waddle was that he didn’t really adapt to lower league football as a player unlike Tommy Hutchinson or Tinman.

I worked at The Royal Armouries in Leeds in the late 90s and the Waddle family came to visit not long after his departure from Turf Moor.

His son was wearing a Sunderland shirt.

Feeling brave I asked Waddle and his wife why he wasn't wearing a Burnley shirt to which his wife replied:

"That thing's in the f*cking bin"

I don't know if he's mellowed at all over the years, but he came across as arrogant when he was at our club.

I don’t think he was arrogant. One of the players at the time told me he was quite shy and that made it difficult for him.

I think part of the problem with Waddle is that, to paraphrase his successor, he had “champagne ideas with beer players”

By that I mean he was use to playing and dealing with higher quality players and expecting them to be able to do the things he could

Lot of truth in that I think and it’s why Jimmy Mac couldn’t cut it as a manager.

He spent half the season thinking Glen Little wasn’t as good as the players he picked.

I’m not sure we need another reason as to why he failed as a manager.

He was also picking Howey in front of Cooke and sulked when the crowd called him on it.

I think Stan said something similar when Wright joined us about having to adapt to playing with players that may not see the game play as he saw it

One of the best wingers I've ever seen.

But absolute shite manager.

Would have been interesting had he stayed, as some of the players were coming around to his way.

I got the impression at the time he was trying to play football which wasn't suited to the division we were in. And we nearly payed the price.
