Best Jukebox in Burnley?
Best Jukebox in Burnley?
The first I can remember was in the Wimpy bar on St. James’s st. circa 1968
The El Greco coffee bar (lots of soul music)
The Park View pub
The Bull and Butcher pub
The Glory pub
(approximate chronological order)
(As I remember) The Park View was the best with 6 requests for £1 and a wide selection of musical genres. When the pub was packed and buzzing with loud uptempo music I used to put ‘Born Free’ on by Matt Monroe just to calm the atmosphere down a bit (sorry)
Did you have any favourite Jukeboxes?

Manor Barn had a fantastic duke box. Really good selections. The lasagne was also brilliant. Miss that place.

Re: Best Jukebox in Burnley?
The first juke box I ever saw and used was in the early sixties, circa 1961/62 in the Coach and Horses. The pub was a meeting place for younger people in the late fifties and early sixties, quite often queues forming before opening time at the weekend. I remember we used to listen to American rock n rollers like Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Elvis etc on there. I know it was a tanner to play the box but I can’t remember if that was for one play or more. Happy days.

Juke boxes back in the day were brilliant. Nothing better than finding an obscure B side totally opposite genre to the pub you were in and repeatedly playing them. Broadsword late Saturday evening full of those Wigan Casinos people waiting for their minibus having to listen to B side of Into the Valley by the Skids.

Another annoying one was The B side of Rezillos Top of the Tops. I wish Half Man Half Biscuit were around in the late 70s

Bulls head, sadly long gone, on the wall and you turned pages to see the song lists!
