I'm not really a football podcast guy, but this is lightyears ahead of any of the other Burnley podcasts I've listened to.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Obviously a good episode when I get a mention
Seriously, good to hear none of them holding back after that shambles on and off the pitch. Although it’s probably wrong to say I enjoyed listening given how bad it had been but I did because of their honesty. And I know Greavesy was there, he was ahead of us in the queue. We thought it was him holding everything up.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Obviously, loved the show, however, thought it was a bit cheeky to give VK some stick on his interviews given the sh*te you lot talked last week. I've checked my notes and certainly don't recall him predicting the demise of Arsenal and a triumphant redemption for the Clarets. An almost biblical like prophesy akin to Jesus arriving in Jerusalem on his donkey amid the celebrating hordes laying down their cloaks and small branches of palm trees in front of him.
As far as I can see Arsenal manifestly failed to deliver their annual collapse as predicted by the Podders. I was furious with that one I mean I wanted a a bit of an explanation from Arteta as to why his team had so manifestly failed to live up to the billing.
Or that Fofana was going to score 8 goals this season ( nearly 1 goal in 2 games) Or even that Sean Dyche didn't allow his team to indulge in sh*thousery when Ashley Barnes was noted throughout the PL as a master of the dark art. His *rse out roll of the shoulders routine must have won a free kick nearly every week in the PL.
I'm sure one of you even managed to say that VK had improved players and then cited Ashley Barnes and Connor Roberts as examples. I mean I fell off my chair so hard I nearly broke the kitchen tiles, which wouldn't have gone down well with the wife.
But anyway I thought it was a genuinely funny show with lots of great points. And not a single bit of quotable ******** in the whole thing, which in its own way was the only disappointment.

Might come as a surprise from me but that was excellent, no bullshit and spot on. I particularly like the 'Honestly the whole thing is just.......w^nk' Highly accurate for the most part

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I also found this my favourite episode. No sugar coating, but fair. Hasn’t been some other weeks (the “it isn’t Burnley” stuff and players not trying) but that is opinions for you. I laughed out loud at one or two bits joking about how bad it was.
I particularly liked the focus of criticism being that it is a young team, an error of recruitment, and their heads drop too easily with no leadership around them, which is my view, rather than a lack of desire etc. i thought the 1000 Premier League appearances on the bench was interesting.
I thought the performance wasn’t quite as bad as some do (better “touches in the box for and against” stats than Luton v Man Utd for example). But it was the first time I left early in 20 years, since 0-6 vs City in League 1 I think.

Yet the XG stat that's often used on here to justify attacking intent was around 66% less on Saturday than in those two mentioned games

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
You’re right, and of course it was a limp performance, my point above was just that it wasn’t the armageddon some imply and the scoreline flattered Arsenal a bit, we limited them in our box and got a dozen or so touches in their box. Arsenal’s XG was only 2.2 on Understat and for Man Utd / BHA vs Luton / Sheffield it was 3.5 ish. Lose 2-0 and I don’t think we have the same hysteria.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 1:10 pm"I thought the performance wasn’t quite as bad as some do (better “touches in the box for and against” stats than Luton v Man Utd for example)"

My point is, we move onto Palace without getting too miserable. The performance may turn around like at Anfield.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I think for me ( on my eyes at least ) there was a complete lack of tempo, nothing in the press, no tracking players which lead to players, again imo, being to far from any Arsenal players to either put a foot in or close down and a complete lack of goalscoring threat. I pointed this out on the match thread in the 1st half.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 1:47 pmYou’re right, and of course it was a limp performance, my point above was just that it wasn’t the armageddon some imply and the scoreline flattered Arsenal a bit, we limited them in our box and got a dozen or so touches in their box. People have stated that we stayed in shape 1st half but I just didn't see it myself, all I saw was a group of players who sat off from the moment Arsenal scored and sat even deeper at 2-0 but still had absolutely no urgency in their performance to get back or at least attempt to get back into the game, there appeared to be a very strong whiff of acceptance of their fate at such an early stage of proceedings, it's something to that's happened all too many times already this season and against lesser teams too
I accept though everyone has their own thought on how Saturday panned out

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Another good listen - thank you.
Agree that some of VK's comments in the press being somewhat baffling and also that we really need some experience in the team and to thicken the midfield up. He has persisted with essentially playing a low block 4-4-2 and we are constantly being outnumbered - additional midfielders required (in place of Amdouni) and this change may even afford the wide players to be a bit more expansive, e.g. Benson, Tresor etc
Keep up the good work, chaps.

Always look forward to listening and no difference this time.
That question though about stopping players from playing who won't be here next year just makes me realise what simpletons some of our fans are to even think that.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Just finished listening to the latest pod and as usual a good listen. Match analysis was fair and covered off most points and very interesting that the increasing apathy from the fans is being noticed more and more.
Listening to Simon tie himself in knots with the 'we need clarity' --> 'I understand there are business secrets' --> 'they wont tell us anything' -->'but we need clarity' over and over was quite amusing.
With a business hat on (with regard to the potential player sales) I'd be pretty angry if our ownership were openly communicating to the market that we needed to sell 4-5 players in the summer, just as much as if they were to announce that they'd pay whatever it takes to secure a target. You wouldn't announce to someone purchasing your house that you were under pressure to sell for fear of low bids, so quite why anyone would expect the club to do something similar is beyond me. Even the insinuation last time we were under pressure to sell lost us Pope for £10m (which I still regard as a pittance) so cards close to the chest needs to be the way forward IMO.
In the same respect, we don't need to be announcing our financial makeup to the world nor (probably my favourite point of the podcast) announcing the identity of our silent investors. The point that BFC fans make the rumours when there's no info from the club, followed by suggesting any comms BFC couldn't release officially should be 'leaked' wasn't lost on me for irony either.
Communication by all means. Let us know this is still part of the plan or it hasnt gone the way we'd hoped.

Found it a bit ironic when Benson was being discussed as "not even being able to do it against this poor Bournemouth side" when he bagged two in the Cup against them last year.

Completely different set up, new manager, new style of play and I think you’ll find 4 of Bournemouths starting 11 2 defenders and 2 midfielders aren’t at Bournemouth at the minute. They also didn’t have Semenyo, kluivert and tavernier playing. Neto wasn’t in goal either.
Think it’s fair to say 2 completely different teams

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I think it’s fair to say that cup games are also entirely different to league games. The underdog generally plays like they’ve got nothing to lose and I think quite often teams won’t have the same level of preparation. Throw in a few changes to the lineup, and in some cases almost an entirely different eleven, and you’re not really comparing apples with apples.
We did play very well at Bournemouth though and also gave Man Utd a good run for their money.

I just find it strange to suggest that 10-15 minutes here and there are conclusive evidence - has the talent to hurt teams.

But you are right can’t judge benson on the 10 minutes he had but it’s true that in the premier league he will never have as much space as he did in the championship

You're making it out like they had a rank bad manager and now have a brand new XI - their manager from last year is still managing in the PL.
Appreciate cup games can have a different feel, but we were cooking then.
Plenty of wingers that did far less than Benson did in the Champ have had some success in the Prem btw.

I’m not making anything out I’m purely stating it was practically a different 11, different manager and different manager so how anyone performed in that game has no relevance to yesterday.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 7:53 pm...which is why I'm judging him off his impact when playing PL opposition, albeit in a Cup.

Should benson of been played right wing yesterday? Absolutely because he’s an actually winger not because he did it against Bournemouth last season

Enjoyed the shows. My one complaint is that the The Pod Squad seem a bit too chipper. Given the Trades Descriptions Act the T Shirts should read 80% miserable - 20% a tad too chipper.
I was hoping someone was going to mention the 4 loanees. I mean imagine being that sh*t and 4 loanees are keeping squad members out of the team.
The next T Shirt should be 'We're too sh*t for our shirts, too sh*t for our shirts, so sh*t it hurts'.
You can't beat a bit of Right said Fred to lift the gloom.

Good episode.
If you’re going to talk about curses, I think it’s time to address the curse of the Bee Hole End podcast. We went from the best of seasons to worst of seasons from the moment the pod was launched.

Enjoyed the conversation on Curses etc. Doesn't Stan reminisce in his book about sprinkling holy water in the goals and on the pitch on the Turf?
This kind of thing is taken very seriously in African football, or at least once was. I remember attending an international match many years ago in Kenya between Kenya and Burkino Faso (I think). All hell let loose in the crowd when they thought the Burkino Faso goalkeeper had placed some kind of charm or curse at the side of one of the goals.

Thank goodness UTC & The Bee Hole End launched in January 2016 just four games into the 23 game unbeaten run.agreenwood wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 7:10 pmGood episode.
