Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
New episode is out now!
We've got an extended chat with George Boyd who talks about that goal against City, how he still gets texts from Sean Dyche and plenty about both his time at Turf Moor and how he thinks we'll get on in the Premier League this season.
Plus we've got transfer latest, the verdict on the third kit, the latest Mission to Burnley trailer and we unpick the #FreeTella stuff as well.
Hope you enjoy - feedback, as ever, is always welcome!

Simon Evans worked for Reuters for years, Boden is ex Burnley Express, Justin Connolly works for MEN, Andrew Greaves is Head of Journalism at Bauer Media. Not sure about Paul Woodhouse.

It's brilliant looking back at the old newspapers too.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:48 amImagine the surprise of the Vindheim story in those pre-social media days.
I've just given up writing articles now for the site about potential signings and speculation because there are just too many of them. I reckon it's best left to the message board and the speculation threads and I stick something up if they sign. Back then, players such as Vindheim just turned up and played for the reserves as a trialist without anyone knowing anything about it. No Nixon, Sacha etc. back then.

I remember standing on Rune Vindheim's foot in the dressing room on my 11th Birthday (we went on to lose 0-2 at home to Northampton Town). I said "Sorry" and one of the other players (I want to say it was Gordon Armstrong) shouted over "You may as well break his foot he can't get any worse".

It’s a very good pod, on my weekly schedule now. They have a good mix. I used to knock about with Justin way back assuming it’s the same lad who used to live off Reedley road.
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
There was absolutely a gap for Burnley fans of a more established media persuasion to come together and create something like this. Couple of decent Røde mics would take it to the next level (not a diss!)

I think people who are interested in the details of how teams prepare in the Premier League and the process of building a team and a 'culture' will really enjoy what Mick Phelan had to say - a bloke who as a coach has won pretty much everything and is a Claret to boot.

Cheers for the feedback. Happy to hear suggestions for improving the audio side but unlike some podcasts that are recording with professional studio equipment with production staff, we are doing this in our spare time, from home on laptops, with some of the guys using microphones, others using headsets etc.
Is there some software you would suggest for making it sound better on that basis?

Yeah Helm, that was completely my fault. I had it down on my running order but I'd told the chaps that the Monday edition should be a strict 30 mins... and we hit 45 mins.
We'll pick up some of the topics from Monday's podcast in our weekly Friday edition.

It's great that you guys are putting this together in your spare time. It's quite a commitment, including chasing up guests to come on the show. I've been enjoying it from by the pool on my hols! As a matter of interest how many people do you think are typically downloading and listening to each episode?
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Yeah its tough doing this stuff “On a shoestring” budget, and its greatly appreciated. Any simple compression software will help get the audio levels better balanced. Garage Band will certainly do the job for example, and it’s free (If you are on Apple Systems). My wife listens to your podcast with me, and as soon as your intro music starts playing she leaps for the volume button to turn it down, and then turns it up again when you start speak, and then turns it down again…etc..etc

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
that's why compression and EQ are needed. I'd also grab a free copy of GOYO which cleans up background noise, Michael explains it well (and also how not to use it) in this video (the link to the product is also there)helmclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 3:29 pmI use Garage Band but for mixing music and individual tracks/stems. Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I've listened to all episodes so far. Great stuff. I don't always agree with the opinions shared on there but that's not a bad thing at all - keeps me in the loop with what others might be thinking and makes me question where I stand with things. Really enjoyed the insightful transfer episodes and features, e.g. the episode with Sacha Tavolieri.
I'm sure there are potential improvements that could be made in the sound quality, as other posters with greater knowledge than me have suggested. But to be honest I haven't found this a major issue when listening as the content is great. It just gives off a vibe that you're a few guys getting together to talk about football as you would if you met up down the pub.
Keep em coming.

Thanks for all the feedback - I think there's definitely some tweaks I can make to the audio (which I'll do for this Friday's episode - no pressure!
)
I think ArmchairDetective you've probably hit upon our aim/mission statement - we want to be reflective of those pub conversations but hopefully with the ability to bring a little bit of extra insight/analysis/added value given our experience and (mostly) previous roles.
We're always trying to find interesting guests/angles and we'll continue to throw a few nice surprises in across the season with a bit of luck.

Before i moved back t'up north, i used to produce the live broadcasting and post match interviews for National League South's Bath City. We used to use Audacity for getting the audio EQ more balance. Also found AudioDirector, Wavepad and Sound Forge were great tools too.
I believe they all have free versions too.

Agreed. I counted 15 or so "you knows" in about 3/4 a minute of talking. It starts to get annoying. The English language has a few more gap fillers.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2023 8:58 amI enjoy listening to the podcast, just one small criticism. It would be a bit of a risk, and makes the assumption we won’t get Maatsen, but Armando Broja would fit the bill.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 7:43 amListened to the Villa review on way to work this morning, good listen, very balanced view of the game and areas of improvement are clear.

Enjoyed it in the main and fair play for taking the time to do it. The main guy (Andrew?) gives good, fair opinions I thought. Intrigued by Simon Evans describing Kompany as "arrogant" for his tactical set up, which I didn't really understand. It's the last thing I'd tag Kompany as. Is the implication there that he expected to walk these games? Surely he's just trying to find the right tactical blend?

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I think it’s fair to suggest there is a touch of arrogance or stubbornness in relating to the tactical set up, yes the opposition have been at a top level but we had to change it after Villa after being so open against them, how many teams get anywhere now in world football playing with a midfield 2?Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 11:08 amEnjoyed it in the main and fair play for taking the time to do it.
