Brilliant New Burnley Podcast

Post by Colheap » Wed May 17, 2023 3:42 pm

Just listened to a fantastic new fortnightly podcast hosted by Simon Evans (The son of clarets mad poster Eli). Really insightful and professional with contributions from Chris Boden, Andrew Greaves, Justin Connolly and Paul Woodhouse. I highly recommend you give it a listen and Chester Perry gets a mention👍👍👍 it’s called “From the Bee Hole End” and is available on Spotify, Apple and Acast.

Have a listen!!

I can see Chris Boden has had a big say in the design of the podcast logo.

Good listen, although I don’t necessarily agree with their cynicism over JJ Watt.

If Forzagranata is Simon then it’s no real surprise. This poster has been negative about the owners ever since they came in and incidentally has barely been seen on this forum all season during these good times (was very very active last summer, as a comparison).

Maybe give it a listen before jumping to conclusions about what is said about Pace or JJ Watt eh? You might actually be surprised!

Yep, he and dandelclaret have scarcely been seen since it became obvious we were heading in the right direction.

I’ve listened to about 3/4 so far and quite enjoyed it. There were some sound issues but I suspect that’s to do with the locations of each of the people on the podcast - it’s certainly not so bad as to need to stop listening.

I’ll catch up with the rest tomorrow and look forward to the next one.

Just downloaded this to have a listen while I'm in the car later. First impression: nice New Order inspired logo.

I might just listen to Movement instead now...

Thanks for the comments so far. We want it to be somewhere we can offer different narratives and challenge things and undoubtedly we’re all going to have different views on the pod which we hope will lead to debates etc.

Point taken on the sound (I think my wireless headphones are the biggest offenders - apologies! 😂).

We’ve shifted platforms so we’re hoping to get everything spot on over the next week or so before the next episode.

Yeah we wanted a proper logo so the picture logo was a bit of a placeholder before the branding was ready.

Decent listen I thought. Tried to cover a lot in one episode but I guess there's been a lot to talk about. Sounds like future episodes may have more if a theme.

Disappointing to hear that Evansy and Woody have lost their accents though

Think the main reason is Pace decided not to take an interview with the Burnley express apart from one when he first arrived

Thanks for everyone’s listens, comments and feedback. We’re delighted that From The Bee Hole End is currently number 16 in the Apple podcast charts for UK soccer podcasts (above more established pods such as Gabs and Jules from ESPN and The Anfield Wrap).

Always welcome ideas for things we might cover/guests we might be able to get so please do shout up!

Happy Saturday!

A large part of the first episode was about just that - what a tremendous appointment VK has been, how many great signings were made and what a wonderful and refreshing season we have just enjoyed.

I think it’s right and proper for us to still pose questions about the nature of the takeover. There’s no denying what a brilliant season it has been and Pace’s decision to appoint Kompany is a huge part of that.

But to think that the season we have had means that there’s now no questions to answer is a strange take.

Some folks lack the subtlety to understand that criticism of one action or decision is not always necessarily a criticism of the person doing the action or making the decision, nor is it a criticism of their actions and decisions as a whole. I got a bit of a barrage aimed at me for suggesting that this upcoming documentary, which I said before saying anything else that I am excited for, might have a fair bit of über-cringe religious fluffing shoehorned into it, making it as much an Alan Pace/Mormon documentary as it is a Burnley FC one. Now everyone hates me lol. Discussions would be better if people could be mature enough to recognise that criticism of a part is not criticism of the whole, and that criticism of the part does not require any kind of counterbalance, because we aren't children. The paranoia some people have about criticism of any kind is almost cult-like, and it's genuinely really immature. You have no obligation to balance criticism with praise, none whatsoever, because if the criticism is fair and measured it stands up by itself. The only time the balancing of criticism with praise becomes a consideration is when it becomes apparent that you may be propounding a narrative which may be perceived as being one not in line with your overarching views on the matter, and then you might ward off accusations of being biased with a counterbalance, but this constant need for so-called positivity is really feeble and sounds neurotic at times.

We could win the Champions League and people will still have an issue with how the club was bought - that's the biggest issue of the lot

Thought it was a good listen. I didn’t agree with everything they had to say, but it’d be boring if I did.

It was refreshing to listen to a podcast where the the overriding purpose didn’t appear to be to advance the profile of the presenters.

A grown up conversation between some seasoned journalists and Burnley fans. Definitely a gap in the BFC market for that.

By all means have questions about how the club was acquired, but don’t forget it was a “Burnley fan” that allowed it to be acquired the way it was. It’s the grief that AP gets for it that doesn’t sit right with me, whilst MG saunters away with flipping great wodges of cash.

I got the distinct impression there were quite a few on here last season who were DESPERATE for it all to go wrong just so they could say “told you so”.

Whether he was lucky or not is neither here nor there. He made some very good decisions, and it looks like he’s continuing to do so…. There has been NOTHING to complain about this season, absolutely NOTHING. The best season in my 57 years, and there are people digging in the weeds looking for a “yeah but…”

The ride is here to be enjoyed…

Absolutely, if I could buy a successful business without actually having to pay for it, it would be a no brainier. If I then went and even make it more successful ( and attractive to the consumers) then I would certainly be doing something right.

I’m not totally convinced that Garlick is a fan to be honest.

In terms of luck, I think all managerial appointments have a huge element of luck about them. You never know whether they will work out or not. The last one did and the Kompany appointment is doing too.

In my time watching Burnley (since 1993) we have only had 2 properly bad managers. Waddle and Laws. And i felt Laws was always on to a loser but it was a poor appointment

Thats not bad though in 30 years to have had only 2 bad managers!

There is a massive degree of luck but i also think the Kilby board were very good at selecting managers

Thats not bad though in 30 years to have had only 2 bad managers!

There is a massive degree of luck but i also think the Kilby board were very good at selecting managers
I think the board can claim credit for appointing a manager who had the credentials to do a good job. You can imagine Dyche & Kompany coming across very well in interviews. The luck element comes in when they both went on to exceed the boards wildest dreams very soon after their appointments.

We also got lucky that they happened to be available at the time we were looking.

Finally got around to listening to it having read all the comments on here. I found it mostly enjoyable and look forward to the next one, a couple of negatives though were the take on JJ Watt which was horrific, he didn't 'just turn up', he's been wearing his Burnley clobber and talking to fans for MONTHS. Having a pop at Pace because he has a personality you don't like is bizarre to the extreme, he's a bit "Cheesy" or whatever the phrase was is pretty lame, criticize him for taking down the player pictures and not putting them back up is far game but anything else is abject.

Sums up my thoughts exactly.

All views on the podcast are of the individual contributor which we hope will be something that helps create and stimulate the debate.

(A bit like this message board you might say)

How dull would life be if we all thought the same? 😂

aye, opinions are great if they are based on something substantive
