Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Tweeted the lads about this one, but one of the biggest curse stories is about the Mayo Gaelic Football team, who reportedly failed to show respect to a funeral as they returned from winning the 1951 all Ireland Football in Dublin. The priest who was leading the funeral procession supposedly put a curse on the team, saying that Mayo wouldn't win an all Ireland Final whilst any of the players on that team were still alive.
We're now 73 years further on, and Mayo haven't won another All Ireland, despite usually being amongst the favourites to win, and have lost the last 11 finals they have contested. There's only a couple of the 1951 team still alive.... I hope for their sake Mayo win one very soon.

A curse is indeed a curse if those who were cursed believe it. Suspect that is the case in Ireland.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 9:24 pmTweeted the lads about this one, but one of the biggest curse stories is about the Mayo Gaelic Football team, who reportedly failed to show respect to a funeral as they returned from winning the 1951 all Ireland Football in Dublin. Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
This week's episode features surprising optimism about the Brentford game followed by an interview with fan-engagement expert (and former Burnley head of marketing) Ed Abis
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Some interesting comments on the podcast today guys. We have scored a lot of own goals this season. Fan engagement has been poor. We aren't Universal Studios, but we should be gathering information from supporters about how match days are going and what will get people through the turnstiles earlier and / or spending their hard eared cash at the Turf. It's more than just pies
The comments about the season tickets was spot on too. If they increase the price and reduce the number of months you can pay the DD over it'll go down like a lead balloon. Hopefully they're just knocking the DD into the next financial year, with the intention of starting the payments in April. They've still got to get a move on in order to make that happen though.

To be fair to the owners the club seems to be doing a lot more season ticket surveys now than ever before. The email about the drum being one example.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 12:58 pmSome interesting comments on the podcast today guys. We have scored a lot of own goals this season. Whether things take on board a weight of opinion from fans, we will have to wait and see, but they do at least ask the question.

The positivity is infectious. The fact that Andrew had to take the day off to sellotape (and stickyback) his salvaged wall chart, is something that ought to be taken very seriously.

Strange to be actually looking forward to listening in the last few weeks but great to hear some optimism. Chelsea (a) was a moral victory.
Can’t wait to be back on the Turf tonight - haven’t said that all season!

Everton de-brief is out now. Hopefully without any of last week's glitches.
Also keep an eye out for a rare Wednesday episode dropping this week - an interview with football finance analyst Kieran Maguire who takes a broad overview of what the club's accounts mean.

I get the feeling Pace bet the ranch after appointing Vincent Kompany and got lucky. He then went "double or quits" last summer thinking VK would continue on an upward trajectory. I genuinely don't think he factored in relegation happening this season so who knows where that leaves us financially.

Liked today's episode especially the analysis of much of our front four playing out of position inexplicably for the last 2 winless games.
All through the season I've called Vincent, who I like a lot, the Tinkerman Reborn. An affliction of many clever, but not as clever as they think, people. He cannot resist a fiddle and it has cost us a lot over the season. He has to learn. Saying that though, I am still behind him.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I'm probably miles off but that's just my take on it.
Mission To Burnley showed we took greater financial risks than Pace expected in Kompany's first transfer window, unless that was for the cameras. We then saw meetings where Kompany seemed to be telling the Board how much they'd need to spend in the PL to be successful.
I just get the feeling that Pace was suckered in by the media praise and general "love-in" for Kompany. The weird comment about dating the most beautiful girl in town was just odd, really odd. He fell for Kompany hook, line and sinker and I genuinely don't think Pace thought he could lose.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
After suggesting they were flummoxed by it they went onto explain it quite well. Quite simply he replaced Amdouni with Odobert because he simply can't accept he is wrong. Odobert did quite well against Wolves and actually did break the lines once or twice but not against Everton.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 3:03 pmLiked today's episode especially the analysis of much of our front four playing out of position inexplicably for the last 2 winless games.

Like many elite players before him he can't accept that lesser players cannot do what elite players do so he makes the same mistakes over and over. He's not the first manager who was an elite player who did well in the Championship or Scottish Premiership and then struggled in the PL.
We can't afford the kind of players he needs to play like that ......! Or if we can it's mavericks like Defour who are older and do not fit the ALK model.

Just imagine Berge sitting in with Defour breaking from the middle - Odobert and JBL out wide and Fofana and Foster running the channels. Everton fans wouldn't be crowing about Branthwaite that's for sure...
