RIP Andy Rourke

Post by martin_p » Fri May 19, 2023 8:28 am

Former Smiths bassist Andy Rourke has died at the age of 59. Played on lots of my favourite songs.

Rest In Peace.

That is sad news. Incredible musician whose baselines interwove beautifully with Marr's guitar.
Gone way too soon.

Bass playing often overlooked due to the brilliance of Morrissey and Marr - R.I.P Andy

Pancreatic cancer again……….terrible news but glad they have been clear in saying it’s this type of cancer……..needs the research to detect early as the signs usually only appear when it’s too late.

The Smiths……..tremendous band………

My partner works at the Institute of Cancer Research. They've identified a molecule that pancreatic cancer feeds on if there isn't sufficient blood glucose. Sort of a back up fuel.

Signs are very encouraging, now they're working on a way to suppress the molecule

Terrible news, part of a band that were the soundtrack to many growing up in the mid 1980s and played on so many iconic songs. A great talent taken way too soon. Heaven knows I'm miserable now. RIP Andy Rourke

The rhythm section of The Smiths is sometimes overlooked because of the genius of Morrissey and Marr. Rourke and Joyce were the driving force of the band which complemented the others to create the best music of that generation. Been listening to the Meat is Murder album today in tribute and some of the bass lines are sublime. By all accounts a really genuine, cool guy too.
RIP Andy Rourke

My mum, absolutely fit as ……….just had stomach ache…….we sat with her, whilst she was told “stage 4, pancreatic cancer……”…….some 12 weeks later, gone.

What your partner is doing, means so much to me as all the focus seems on cancers (all of which are terrible) which have higher rates of positive treatment, as tho no point bothering with pancreatic………………

What your partner us doing is so valuable …………

Appreciated……oh and UTC!!!!!
