Kate Bush - Kick Inside - Moving. Singing Whales start an extraordinary album:

Wally - Wally - The Martyr. First heard this in a record shop and was so entranced I bought the album. Don't regret it!

Dire Straits - Dire Straits - Down to the Waterline. This album set the tone for their demise as a musical force to my ears! They couldn't better it.

Not a great Elton John fan but Funeral for a Friend/Love lies Bleeding takes some beating in my opinion.

Stone Roses - I wanna be adored

Madness - One Step Beyond

The Jam - Dream Time
Think you’ve been playing Sound Affects the wrong way round Elwa - Dreamtime is side 2, track1. Pretty Green wouldn’t be a bad shout though…

Personally I’d go for the Clash, London Calling.

hard to beat the stone roses eponymous but on a summer's day getting into the car and putting on let it bleed by the rolling stones and hearing gimme shelter is up there.

Quite right, at least it proves I have the album rather than the CD not played it for year though tbh.

Not sure if this has been mentioned or I missed it. But

Club Foot from Kasabian's self titled debut album is a great tune. And one of the very best live bands I have seen whilst Tom was still front man. Not so sure without him...

Lots of great shouts on here (and lots of great shouts for non debut albums too :D) u2, kasabian, the music, Stone roses, Dylan, white lies, many more too

Here are a couple I don't thi k have been posted

Script for a Jester's Tear from the same titled debut of Marillion - melodic, bittersweet and punchy
Once from Ten by Pearl Jam - hits like a hammer and sets the tone for the whole album.
Twice As Hard from Shake Yoir Money Maker by The Black Crowes - dialling back the years but with a 'modern' twist.

I didn't read that bit :P . 'Axe Victim' was the first album, but his record label put pressure on him to get rid of the musicians and find some better ones, and the ones he found were absolutely brilliant, with Nelson himself being, as you say, probably the most underrated guitarist ever. Although other musicians rated him very highly.
