I didn't read that bit . 'Axe Victim' was the first album, but his record label put pressure on him to get rid of the musicians and find some better ones, and the ones he found were absolutely brilliant, with Nelson himself being, as you say, probably the most underrated guitarist ever. Although other musicians rated him very highly.
