Best hotel you have ever stayed?
Re: Best hotel you have ever stayed?
Copacabana Hotel in Rio. 6 stars I think with marble flooring. A phone call down to reception for an ironing board was with me inside 30 seconds.
Re: Best hotel you have ever stayed?
Cape Panwa Hotel on Phuket. Apparently Leonardo Di Caprio stayed there when he made the film The Beach. Beautifiully laid out, gorgeous surroundings, has it's own beach, immaculately clean and the most respectful, helpful and friendly staff I've come across.

El Dorado Royale - Casitas on the Mayan Riviera was the best resort, whilst the recently refurbished Melia White House Hotel overlooking Regent's Park was stunning ....

Re: Best hotel you have ever stayed?
Spent a few nights in Sarara House at the amazing Sarara Camp in Sumburu northern Kenya. This was all our accommodation for 2 of us , with outdoor showers, dining area and a chill out zone by our pool…. However some of the other residents kept taking over the pool, so didn’t manage to get in for a dip.

Probably the Lebua in Bangkok.
Re: Best hotel you have ever stayed?
Since having kids we tend to stay at whatever hotel we can get for a decent price in summer holidays, and spend as little time there as possible.
Before kids I always book basic hotels because I’d rather spend the money on things outside the hotel.
Last night I stayed in a perfectly acceptable but basic hotel in Brussels. I think I spent a total of 7 hours on the hotel.
Tonight I’m staying in Bruges. Hotel right in the centre and very pretty but still on the budget end. We dumped out bags there and I expect we will spend less than 9 hours in there in total.
Why am I messaging on a football forum from the Half Man brewery? Because I’m ******

Estival Torrequebrada takes some beating. Great All Inclusive place. Only thing that lets it down is the entertainment which can be a bit hit and miss.

Sea Breeze Beach House Hotel in Barbados
Royal York in Toronto
Also loved a Marriot hotel we stopped in Nice once - we got upgraded (for no reason or extra cost) to a beautiful suite. Nice is a great city.
Closer to home The Grosvenor in Chester is very nice and stopped in some pretty swanky places in London with work like The Dorchester but bit different when you are in a lovely hotel and you have to get up in the morning to have a full day of meetings with a load of people you dislike !!

I worked there as a student in the summer of 1990. Was having a wonderful time till the Germans won the WC!aclaretinstevenage wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 8:46 pmThe Jagerhouse in Neuschwanstein Germany, early winter night time views of a floodlit Schloss Neuschwanstein were absolutely stunning and once the tourist hoards had gone for the day the silence was fantastic.

Also, went to Senegal with Tui this year and stayed in the Rui Hotel, South of Dakar.

The Ritz. One of our friends bought us afternoon tea there and we thought right, we’re not going all the way to London just for afternoon tea, so we booked in for three nights. I ended up complaining. Because they cocked up our breakfast on the last day, we called the duty manager and he knocked us £100 off the bill. He looked forward to welcoming us again, but not sure that he meant it!

That’s right re Dr Doolittle. You can get on a free ferry service that takes you to the bar/restaurant Doolittles.mkmel wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 4:42 pmFrom memory Marigot Bay is where they filmed some of the scenes from the original Doctor Doolittle film.

Re: Best hotel you have ever stayed?
Have traveled extensively for work, so many good hotels, but the really memorable ones that we stayed at for vacations:
Hotel Neri, Barcelona centre, long weekend for wedding anniversary, no pool but super fab rooms, actual interior of the hotel was the best ever for me.
The Palace Hotel - Sun City, so called 6 star hotel, fabulous pool and golf
Had a meeting in JoBerg for one hour, took the holidays before and afterwards, since my flight was paid for.
Black Rhino Lodge S Africa, only time on safari and it was so wonderful and a memory never to be forgotten, including use of the outdoor shower often!
I also agree on the Raffels Hotel Singapore, it's super, but the name itself conjures up many thoughts.

We followed the parade celebrating the first brew of the year in Fussen one time, following the dray with a huge barrel through the town down to a fairground where it was greeted by Lederhosen clad men firing a musket salute of about 12 shots. Free beer all day. Wonderful times there.Alanstevensonsgloves wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 5:39 pmHo'gau / Fuessen is very much my happy place. Re: Best hotel you have ever stayed?
Seem to have spent too much of my life in hotels recently.
I'm interested in a quiet nights kip, unobtrusive staff and a decent fry-up in the morning. It's only rarely that hotels fail on these points.
Like Inchy I spend as little time as possible in them...why wouldn't I?

For luxury and view: The Shore, Phuket & MBS Singapore
It is all very subjective. Some of the ones listed by others above I have stayed at thought they were disappointing, including the Raffles Singapore

Re: Best hotel you have ever stayed?
Difficult to chose which is the best but I certainly remember the worst. The hotel was in Blackpool and I was a student. The owner had a sign on the bedroom door saying 'stains on sheets would be charged for'. Being sarcastic, I asked if there were different rates for various type of stains and did they do bulk rates. He wasn't amused.

Some of my fellow posters have stayed in exotic and expensive hotels!
My two are nearer to home. The Royal Bath in Bournemouth, about 20 years ago - before the beautiful gardens became a carpark. I was there for a conference at the BIC. The hotel oozed old school class.
Buswells Hotel in Dublin. The antidote to corporate homogeneity.

Been to a couple of the hotels in this thread
Nice enough - but dull as dishwater like most of the customers they bring in. Lacking in character is common
High end does not mean the best. Far far from it. Same with that nicely presented grub they chuck out at high prices
