European Under 21 Championship 2023

Post by claretgoss » Wed Jun 14, 2023 4:18 pm

Not seen it posted elsewhere but this is starting next week with some Claret interest-

Ameen Al-Dakhil has been named in Belgium's squad, presumably joining after the seniors finish

https://twitter.com/RoyalBelgianFA/stat ... KsEAw&s=19

Jordan Beyer hasn't been named in the final Germany squad due to injury

https://twitter.com/DFB_Team_EN/status/ ... K5WSQ&s=19

(Taylor Harwood-Bellis is in the England squad too)

Really enjoyed the u21s when it was here in 2015. Had a great time following them around the country without the more lairy elements of England support to spoil it

List of broadcasters

That link is from 2021 giveusaB, there is no deal in place with any UK broadcaster for this year's tournament.

However all games can be viewed for free via https://www.uefa.tv/competition/U-21

This will be the first under 21 tournament where all players will have been born in the 21st century.

Players like Cameron Archer, Tommy Doyle, Harvey Elliott, Cole Palmer & Emile Smith-Rowe on the bench as well, a strong squad.

Difficult to judge though despite our squad how strong we'll be in the tournament and how seriously we'll take it, in 2019 we had the following players in the squad and lost two and drew 1 to go out in the group stage with 1 point:

Dean Henderson
Aaran Wan-Bissaka
Fikayo Tomori
Demarai Gray
James Maddison
Phil Foden
Harvey Barnes
Mason Mount
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Morgan Gibbs-White
Reiss Nelson
Tammy Abraham

Yousaffa Moukoko, highly likely to be tournament golden boot winner, equalises for Germany against Israel.

Israel finished third in the Under-20 World Cup a couple of weeks ago too, knocking out Brazil along the way. Seem to have a good set up at youth levels

Would be looking at Ben Johnson for James Garner at half time, balance of the team doesn't look right with Garner at right back.

Also maybe Archer for Gordon up front.

Very entertaining game.
Not a great deal in it though, you'd probably say the Cze lads were perhaps slightly ahead on points.

Half Time 0-0.

Not fantastic football, but some excellent chances for both teams, been entertaining so far.

Czech Rep. beating Germany 2-1 in the other group game means we will win the group and are through to Quarter Finals, final group game against Germany means nothing now, for us anyway.

England have now won the group as H2H result is the decider. So, even should we lose against the Germans our win v Czech keeps them 2nd should they beat Israel

Borussia fans said he was injury prone and hardly available but he didn't do too badly with us.
